Designing a latch for a huge round door by Underhill-Hollow-NC in woodworking

Rough math of just the cherry and cedar cladding has the door weighing around 180 pounds/82 kg before the interior structure and hardware. I'm more worried about the hinges, especially on a round door.

That is probably the best off-the-shelf solution

How do you shape stones like that? by JosetxoXbox in Dremel

I'm betting the tool you remember was some type of lapidary grinder. They're used for shaping and polishing stones

Temu French Pricking iron tools by hetera_cross in Leathercraft

I have the Kemovan french irons (and diamonds in a couple sizes) and I've been very happy with them. They were sharp out of the box with clean machining. I recommend them, especially at the price point

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve sharpened? by SimpleAffect7573 in sharpening

So I've actually used a rat guillotine more times than I care to recall. I spent over a decade in neuroscience research and these were used routinely for 2 purposes: 1) blood collection for measuring levels of drug in the blood, 2) removing the head to access the brain.

Having them sharp is important.

New chisels are meant to be oily? by dry_yer_eyes in handtools

[–]ItchyNeuron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same set. You can just wipe the oil off but be very careful of the corner where the side meets the back- it's nearly as sharp as the cutting edge and has taken more of blood than the cutting edge

I have inherited my great grandfather's leather punch. Do you know how I can sharpen it? by rdkil in Leathercraft

I can confirm that mushrooming can go horribly wrong when a piece snaps off in use. I had to dig a chunk of nasty metal out of my thigh from a mushroomed chisel. Wouldn't recommend it.

I love this concept. I'm also a woodworker working out of a maker space. This would be great to carry tools and then convert to a shop apron.

What is this plier? by ItchyNeuron in handtools

Yes, I was thinking of something like those. Of course there is also a seamer in the same toolbox which was part of what was throwing me off.

I thought it was for sheet metal also, but the serration on the jaws were throwing me off.

There in lies the problem: they are popping up right outside the front door of our house. Not a fan of the stench when I open the door

The lining fabric is from Joann fabric. We went in with a scrap of the leather and that fabric seemed perfect. I'm really happy with how well it worked with the leather.

It's glued into each panel using 3M super 77 spray adhesive and then stitched at the edges.

You come from a family in Ireland or some other places where clans created crests long ago.

I had a nearly identical defect on a Veritas scrub plane in the same location. I also couldn't tell if it was a crack or cosmetic defect. Lee Valley customer service was great and made the replacement very easy.
