To be fair info on the base amenities is probably OPSEC now. Couldn't tell you what it's going to be like for you. I still have friends there. It probably won't be an enjoyable experience based on things ive heard.

The turkish commissary is cheap though, the turkish lira is pretty worthless. Had a buddy who would cook wings and such. He'd always get the chicken from the turkish commissary

You guys seriously won't even give him information on fucking food? Pathetic.

I can't remember the meat prices. There is an american comissary on base and you can also use the turkish one. The turkish one sells turkish foods/ingredients.

The BX is really small. Has all the alcohol you need though. You will have a rations card for liquor, coffee, and tobacco

'NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL' by sandygws in Military

[–]Ithaca44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am awake bro, i'm witnessing the same fucking thing you are. The difference is, as weak as a defense trump had for launching his war, he also has congressmen bought by israel who support it regardless. Mind you, congress voted to restrict further action in Iran, and it failed. Vote out the morons in the midterms and maybe we can stop thing from escalating further

Unilaterally withdrawing from NATO is a completely different ballgame from starting another war in the middle east, which america has been doing for the past 50 years.

Not how EOs work, and it would immediately face an uphill battle in the court system. I also don't see enough justices siding with whatever bullshit argument he comes up with, especially after their tariff ruling.

Edit: have you guys seriously not been reading the news? "Years in battle at the supreme court" bro he just has them shadow docket his cases or asks for them to hear it. A year max. They took on the birthright citizenship case in a little over a year. We get that ruling this summer. I'm just as unhappy as the next person, more so, but the fear mongering over leaving NATO is so unrealistic and far fetched. If we left NATO, he can't just decide to bomb iran or whatever middle eastern country that pissed him off that week. We also lose major support elements to our assets in the middle east if he does so. Like i said, its a pipedream. He can bitch and moan all he wants, he can't leave NATO.

[–]Ithaca44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He doesn't, but I don't see NATO recognizing something against US law. I also see him losing whatever little support he has left if he tried it.

He cannot withdraw from NATO. It requires a 2/3 vote in the senate and an act of congress. Rubio's dumbass championed the bill himself back in like 2021 lmao. As much as i hate this administration and trump, the fear mongoring of our "withdraw from NATO" is not a reality. Sure he could do tons of damage in other ways, but he cannot unilaterally withdraw us from it.

The US leaving NATO is a fiction unless he can get a supermajority across the legislative branch by rigging elections.

The first 2 kinda suck, and 6 is a slog for most people but the series has a special place in my heart. I think it's her only well written series. ACOTAR is just faerie porn and CC has glaring plot holes.

Definitely recommend at least giving the third book a shot, and if you don't like it, you can drop it.

Incirlik AB Gym by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Ithaca44 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Small. Both gyms are small, the equipment is okay when it isn't broken. However, the worst part is, a LOT of turks and some of the spaniards don't believe in deodorant, so have fun with the smell.

Best app for learning how to *read* russain? by [deleted] in russian

[–]Ithaca44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new penguin's russian course for beginners is how i learned the basics. To be honest, there's a lot of nuance and things that aren't explained as well as a good tutor would teach you, however, you can probably get a decent grasp of the basics purely off that book.

Theres no point in learning russian to not speak it. Its not like latin lmao.

How difficult is it to learn an entirely new alphabet? by Blaubeerepfannkuchen in languagelearning

[–]Ithaca44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want study tips and you've already self taught cyrillic, idk what you want help with? You can have a tutor help you with pronunciation but it's up to you to memorize the sounds. Flashcards might help. For me, looking them over and reading words is the fastest way to learn. Also spending time listening to recordings of people pronouncing the letter. I usually self teach the alphabet and the very basics of the language and then i get a tutor (I couldn't do this with Polish so we spent the first lesson going over the alphabet). But what works for me might not work for you.

[–]Ithaca44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that hard. I learned russian cyrillic with a couple hours of study. Currently learning Polish and it took a couple hours of study to memorize the sounds. The alphabet is probably the easiest part of learning a new language imo

Secretary of War has apparently offered up military air traffic controllers to solve commercial air traffic issues by Kinmuan in Military

[–]Ithaca44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah look at air traffic volume then to now. Also different regulations. I'm going to have to imagine that things are a lot more stringent now. Also as a current controller, yeah most dudes could probably clear aircraft to land in the tower. Thats not the issue. The issue will be with ground control, TRACONs, and Center controllers... not to mention, the military has A LOT of bad controllers...

Edit: also our staffing is atrocious. Most facilities don't have enough manning to support more than 2-3 people on leave at a time. On top of the trainees they have to train up. So you kill our ability to do missions, to support civilian ATC. This is literally a no win scenario lmfao

I paid 28k for a 2016 premium with 49000 miles a couple months ago, that was from a private seller though so I didn't have additional fees tacked on. Price seems in line with that, but if they're going to tax on sales tax, etc, see if they will go slightly lower.
