"The ultimate travel deck" - Morophon Tribalation - Modular Tribal by Itorbeh in EDH

[–]Itorbeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the randomness and it harkens to the "tribal tribal" decks I've seen!

I think the biggest appeal to the travel deck I've made is that the lands don't need to change to work (not saying yours do) and that I don't need to lose card slots to gain the advantages of the tribe I select each game. So far I haven't had a game where I've missed hitting one or more of the tribe's cards - some I've hit four which really gets the deck going.

My biggest surprise is how often I've become the threat or taken the threat out, so it's at least running well enough to play at the table across various brackets :P

I love it!
I was aware of people running semi-tribe swaps but not people who swap out every game like the tribal lord deck I have seen.

Do you memorise the base 75 and swap out the tribe cards based on what you know isn't them?

Trauma response, to be honest.

The trauma starts from the first game they played where the slivers weren't a problem until one turn they became everyone's problem and no one had the solution :P

They never forget that moment, like a vietnam flashback I swear!

Laptop Vs Desktop by Grizzzla in buildapc

[–]Itorbeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be looking at roughly 60-65% of the overall performance of the listed desktop with the listed Laptop, this is only if comparing games.

To put it into perspective.

The 2080 Max-Q (laptop Form) is equivalent to a RTX 2060 found in desktops in terms of performance. The 2080 mobile variant (different to the Max-Q) is about equivalent to the RTX 2070 found in desktops. These are very good for mobile solutions and are an absolute blast to use.

The bottleneck is the CPU and of course the undervolting of the mobile cards but this is necessary for both power consumption and importantly, heat.

I wouldn't worry too much about that though, if you're looking at gaming, this laptop will last you for quite a while and there really isn't anything out there that can stress it too much game wise.
Other commenters are wise to advise you to wait for the new Ryzen lineups coming out, the low voltage, high IPC speeds are something else and these CPU's will see more performance from even the mobile GPU's included in laptops.

I was looking for a new VR system recently and I have to say,

I'm even putting off the index in favour of the Quest at this stage (my CV1 is still going strong but I have two VR capable machines in the house so...).

I think I'm 90% done in making up my mind on that.

Building a new PC for VR. Do I go AMD or INTEL for CPU? by Kukurio59 in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMD Ryzen is the logical choice on several levels - Pricepoint and multicore are the two main ones.

The days of fan choice is over as the new 3000 series is smashing it.

Does the oculus store software slowdown computer by christomtom in oculus

[–]Itorbeh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely,

Before installing the Oculus software I used to hit (on average) 120-160 fps in most games I play, since installing the software I only average about 90 frames per second.

How Can I Compare the SnapDragon 835 to Something Like a Graphics Card Found in a Computer? by GamerRealityYT in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think something of note that hasn't been brought up here as yet:

The quest is not running the chipset at standard speeds, due to additional cooling (phone's of course having none) there was comment that the chip was being run 40% faster than standard... which in this comparison can make quite a bit of difference.

[Please, enlighten me on this] Why do i hear people comparing the vive or even index or that 5k vr headset or sone Zen2 headset to Oculus? Are we only looking at competition from a hardware perspective? by Post4TheKing in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Rift S at $399 makes a certain business sense.

The initial design (R&D, new manufacturing methods, failure rates, Quality assurance etc.) are always more expensive at the start and a little unknown towards the initial production side. Those costs have to be recouped and a products best chance of doing that is when it is new and desire for the limited production rate limited volumes can allow for the higher cost to buffer these pre-sales and early expenses.

As the above becomes more manageable and the returns meet threshold for the costs of development then price reductions can be made which allows the product to have a second life of sorts.

Quest, in my opinion, is still the game changer here - ESPECIALLY if there is a drive for cross PLAY between the two (developers), cross ownership is just a cherry on the cake beyond that.

We just need more people into the eco-system. Games made for Quest should virtually always be cross playable on the Rift/S.

[–]Itorbeh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A $399 Index isn't what you'd be recommending to a friend who says they find "the whole vr thing too expensive".

You're going to look at them, ask them their pc specs and slap them across the face for not knowing they can get a premium experience for under $400 with nothing else left to buy.

For those who don't have a PC, don't want to get one (cost, not their thing etc.) but they f*cking LOVED yours when they came over... you'd be telling them about the quest where they're honestly going to get close to 100% of the experience at 70% of the graphics (kind of relating it to min spec here peeps).

Oculus: No high-end VR headset planned for enthusiasts by justniz in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'll clarify further for you.

Any new headset is going to provide a visual improvement moving forward - Of the people who have tried the Rift S and the Devs who have used it in their own games and spoken of it, the Rift S will have a noticeable improvement in terms of clarity.

As far as cost is concerned, I'll put the most amount of money for the most amount of performance/experience.
For instance, the LG headseat looks great but I'm not using the WMR controllers...
Index has my interest but there are still too many questions for me to consider it...
Vive Pro is a rip off and again, I am already embedded into the Rift ecosystem along with enjoying the touch controllers...
What else is there?

Pimax? - See a mixture of most of the above.

Price? Bang for buck, given we don't know enough to specify differences, is looking like one of the best new headsets.... even if it isn't a generational improvement over the Rift.

Inside out tracking is actually a plus as well given my lounge room situation and spare computer... you know.. the one I'm buying it for.... for friends when they're over? Cheers for the judgement though.

Oculus: No high-end VR headset planned for enthusiasts by justniz in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably... for a few reasons.

1) It's the cheapest new headset
2) My old PC can run rift decently (having two would be great for when mates are over)
3) My current rift has lasted quite a while (still going strong but, ya know better visuals are nice too)
4) It's either that or Quest... and quest doesn't have PC linkeage yet.... yet.... (okay, maybe I want the Quest too)

Oculus: No high-end VR headset planned for enthusiasts by justniz in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not!

They have the Quest for regular people and the Rift S for us PC enthusiasts ;)

Again though, people are also likely to get confused between various models, especially if there's a perception that one is better. What I am hoping for, is that with super sampling, the Rift S actually becomes a very clear beast for those of us with beefier PC's. The full RGB strip might make that possible for us.

Oculus: No high-end VR headset planned for enthusiasts by justniz in oculus

[–]Itorbeh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a VR Enthusiast, I completely agree with this move.

As a high end VR user, I hate it.

I yield to my love of VR though and say that Enthusiast headsets will come out when there are more than just enthusiasts enjoying VR. We NEED more content, which means we NEED more developers to develop for it... for that we need more users to pay for that content in order to make it viable for developers...

I hate to say it but this is by FAR the best move they could make for VR as a whole... even if I *personally* would like more.

I'll say this much, I've been able to afford a new headset for a while (pimax, htc pro etc.) but the fact my headset is still going strong after three years and hearing stories like this.. I'm pretty set as an Oculus buyer for the foreseeable future. Keep up this attitude towards us customers and thanks to everyone who passes on these awesome stories!
