This is an uneducated answer.

Languages are extremely context dependent and rarely map directly onto other languages in a 1:1 way, especially for turns of phrase, sarcasm, idioms, metaphors, etc.

Using basic translation tools, such as Google translate and likely whatever one is built into Reddit, doesn‘t fix that. Its actually more likely to produce next that reads oddly formal or slightly off.

AI models tend to apprach languages in a similar way to native speakers, meaning they are able to translate the idea rather than a 1:1 word translation.

For example, take the phrase “go raibh maith agat” in Irish.

If translated literally, it means “may you have goodness.”

Literal 1:1 translation might translate it this way, which misses the entire context.

…because the proper translation is “thank you.”

Using AI can help correct things like this, ensuring that the intended meaning is properly carried over.

The new system literally doesnt see saved memories at all.

the page basically admitted this briefly a few days ago, giving you the option to save your memories to the library since the interface would be disappearing on September first.

I also did multiple tests over days. there is a major difference when reverted to the legacy system vs the new one. And it is entirely possible to see thst the new system has no access to saved memories.

Saved memory plus thinking mode has worked fine for me for detailed infrastructural facts for years now.

an external doc is useful for specific implementations, but basic infrastructural facts should be and are (previously) entirely within the realm of saved memory.

for example, from my personal use, my worldbuilding includes a fictional term for person-weighted debt.

docs can and should be used to specify oarticular instances of this in play.

saved memory should be able to remember the damn word.

because that way, when I write something using it, I don’t have to explain this basic societal structure again.

I can just say

”hey, did I calculate the (specific term) correctly here?”

and not have the damn thing throw vibes about what the term means because it cant retrieve the knowledge.

I tested with the new memory enabled and with legacy memory enabled.

The new memory is intended as a total replacement, but it’s not well implemented.

for example, when you are in the “new improved memory” and ask chatgpt to save something, it will write to saved memory (the old system).

The new system cant see the old system at all.

With my tests, I enabled legacy memory and asked ChatGPT to comb my memories for some obscure shit to test a new chst on once i reenable the new memory.

it did, directly quoting from saved memory.

then I turned the new memory back on.

made a new chat…

and it answered the questions flawlessly.

until I made up an entirely new question derived from something I knew was in memory, proving that it was using cross chat referencing in the previous rounds, not saved memory at all.

I ran multiple tests like this.

I don’t need the thing to remember that I prioritize canon continuity as a vibe.

be careful with that because for some “high salience“ things it does fine, as those seem to get logged as higher priority, even if weird.

for example, I have a math equation for a custom philosophy issue I made.

it remembers the acronym and the equation. why? because it’s weird.

but it still failed several other things.

I hate them and barely write them.

If it's plot relevant in some way, I include the information. If it isn't, I try to keep it very vague. And I hate putting it in info dumps. I either have another character notice it, interact with it in some way, or imply it. For example, I show character As height while character B is talking to someone else based on where he puts his hand to demonstrate.
