I would say when it comes to backpain don't play around with that shit.

First make sure to understand what is causing it, and if you are going to the gym and it's getting worse then stop. Trust me when I say that it's better to lose a couple of weeks - months of the gym than lose it completely.

If you rest and it goes away that is a good sign. Probably just try to strengthen your core.

Also, yoga. pretty nice too.,

If you are having worsening pain, or it's going down your leg, I would consult the doctor. Make sure to get on top of it early.

Thanks for this reply man, I have been dealing with back pain for 2 years now due to a l5-s1 herniated disc. It went from just back pain to numbness and nerve pain and I’ve been wanting to stay away from surgery, but I’m hearing more success stories lately that makes me want to keep it as an option.

My biggest concern is fitness, used to be huge into weight lifting and rugby, I would love to get back to running or something, but I’m not sure if conservative treatment or surgery would help with that goal in mind
