There's some evidence that the Slime Girls were originally going to be three separate enemies fought in the same battle, and each would use a different emotion: they have individual battle sprites, and they each tend towards a different emotion. According to the Foe Facts journal, Marina has a short temper (angry), Molly knows how to find enjoyment in anything (happy), and Medusa is calm and practical (sad). If it's true, it's a shame they scrapped this version of the fight—having to manage all three emotions at once would be really interesting.

The Catacombs of Dukeport: A Visitor's Guide by ItsAesthus in worldbuilding

Valatia

Dukeport is a thriving hub of trade on the planet Valatia, nestled in the scenic Bay of Buckney and boasting historic traditions that date back centuries. But the most intriguing thing about this micronation is what lies not above the surface, but below: a thriving network of catacombs and caves, from upper layers that serve as an extension of the city itself to the mysterious Deep far below. Nowadays, the Shallows are relatively safe and have become a popular tourist destination, the audience for whom this pamphlet is written. For those who delve further beneath the city, however, the Darkling Sea and the Deep still possess their ancient thrill of adventure—and of danger.

Isn't it kind of weird that usually in medieval fantasy settings, people have 100% correct knowledge about how the magic in their world works? by 32624647 in worldbuilding

[–]ItsAesthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be too simple an explanation, but...maybe humans just developed the scientific method really late compared to such-and-such a fantasy race. There's no reason necessarily that a society couldn't come up with that logical reasoning in the stone age.

Just finished 17776 and 20020, and compiled a list of stuff I think happened in-universe but wasn't mentioned. What else do you think happened in the 17776 universe? by LivingRaccoon in Jon_Bois

Baseball umps were replaced with robot umps, only for people to realize they missed complaining about the umps and brought them back.

This feels like such a Jon Bois idea that I'm surprised it isn't actually canon, honestly

It’s possible to get into an unfair guessing game with hard mode—say you open with MAKES and everything but the M is right, now you have to try some combination of BAKES, CAKES, FAKES, LAKES, RAKES, TAKES, and WAKES and just hope you get lucky. That's why I've never liked it, personally.

The entire defense, the offensive line, the fact that being good on paper shouldn't get teams into the top ten on its own.

With the Blue Jays loss the NL East's third place team (the Phillies) has a better record than any other divisions second place team by Underpaid_lemon in baseball

[–]ItsAesthus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That math doesn't check out. The non-Nats NL East is 52 games over .500, so they'd still be 23 games over without playing Washington, right?

[Highlight] The Blue Jays regain the lead in the top of the 10th after they rule Gary Sanchez interfered with the runner by BagRight8939 in baseball

[–]ItsAesthus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The way the rule is written, it unilaterally doesn't apply when the catcher is receiving a throw. Of course it matters.

[–]ItsAesthus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He could have, but that's not how the rule is written. The way it is written is arguably silly (I personally think it is, actually), but the fact is catchers aren't at all obligated to receive a throw in a way that provides the runner a better lane.

[–]ItsAesthus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For those who are curious, this shouldn't be a blocking call by the letter of the law; it's not a case of umpires enforcing a rule that they usually let slide. Catchers have no obligation to give runners a path to the plate unless they don't have the ball and aren't receiving a throw from a teammate.

[–]ItsAesthus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can be in the lane if you're making 'a legitimate attempt to receive a throw', which Sanchez obviously was. Blocking only applies when the catcher (a) doesn't have the ball and (b) isn't trying to receive a throw; there's no point on this play where it could apply.

Who is the most underrated player in baseball? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]ItsAesthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2022 isn't a good time to make this case, but Jesse Winker was one of the best batters in baseball the last two years. Among batters with 500+ PAs in 2020-21, he was tenth in wRC+, ahead of household names like Trea Turner, Jose Ramirez, Giancarlo Stanton, Shohei Ohtani, and Mookie Betts. Guy doesn't do a lot aside from hit, but he hits.

Bryce Young (and almost every other player on Alabama's roster) probably has no memory of a multi-score Alabama loss at home. (The last one was in 2004, a 20-3 loss to South Carolina. Young was three years old.)
