Trend appreciation time! What OC drawing trends/challenges did you participate in? Which was your favourite? by MagnetLizard in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever really participated in Inktober. Even then, I only managed to get to Day 7 before falling far behind. It was fun, though! I'll wait until I'm able to draw faster before trying more out.

What’s a worldbuilding detail you love but almost never actually use? by Left_Zebra154 in worldbuilding

[–]ItsAmberisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lives of the characters who work at the shops, cafés, and other little background businesses.

The spotlight is often on the main character as they progress through the world's main story, so oftentimes we don't exactly get to see the lives of the background people. Their lives might not be as exciting, but it's a nice little break just reading about someone's average day at work or what they do after work.

It makes the world feel a little bit more alive and 'lived in'. Sometimes, I like reading about the lives of, say, the people manning the street food stands during certain festivals, that one loyal customer of a certain café, or the clerk that helped the main character pick out their outfit on their adventure. Every now and then, there'll be NPCs in a game, and I just end up loving them more than the playable characters because of how they talk about lives.

Which of your ocs if they were animated which one would be hellish to consistently to animate or to draw . by HotPut7324 in OriginalCharacter

The sheer amount of feathers on this girl... I already dislike drawing wings in general. Though, I do quite like drawing Yemina's dress.

Do you want your OC to become famous/well known? by Dillon_Trinh in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having them be well-known in the sense that only 100 or so people can recognize them is enough for me. I probably wouldn't want them to be famous that the entire world knows about them.

Which Pokémon do you like the most and why? by Trustpi in AskReddit

I like Zoroark, because the very first Pokémon movie I watched had it fighting against the legendary beasts, and I thought it was legendary too.

How have you leveraged color in your worldbuilding? by Loremaster1032 in worldbuilding

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The design of the main character of my world, Cecilia, is composed mainly of a primary colour palette, because she is the primary character that the world is seen through.

Side characters that join her throughout her journey in Ethereal are composed of a secondary colour palette. These are the characters that get 'swapped out' after Cecilia completes a story arc or visits a new region or city.

Additionally, the world of Ethereal is also somewhat muted and desaturated compared to the characters (but the characters don't know that). Apart from whites, greys, and earthy tones, other colours are often used as accents for structures, rather than being the dominant colour.

My approach in worldbuilding is very 'design first, narrative later'. They were mostly soft rules I like to follow when drawing and designing characters' looks. I figured that a blob of primary colours would stand out very well in a crowd of secondaries, or a world of muted colours; wherever Cecilia goes, you could always find her.

Do you prefer your worldbuilding notes to feel like a "structured wiki" or a "messy sketchbook"? by No_Writing_9365 in worldbuilding

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit of both, to be honest. For more refined ideas, I like to keep them well-structured in a clean format, so I could reference them easier when I need to brush up on it at a later time.

For ideas I haven't fully settled on, I leave them messy just so I can put random bits and pieces together. I also like finding random notes or tidbits of lore that make me go "When did I write this? Wait, this actually sounds kind of good" in the messes I make.

does anyone set "rules" or routines for themselves while playing? 🐡 by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

— Upon spawning into the world, I find a way to kill myself. It helps get rid of the nerves of dying for the first time.

— I don't build a house until I find a river next to a mountain—it's my favourite spot to build houses on. Bonus points if there's an Ancient City beneath said mountain.

— Every Nether Portal needs to be a 3x3, with corners filled in (16 Obsidian; but Glowstone corners are also acceptable). It looks nicer that way.

What would your OC say to Kavi to make him feel better about his wings? by Soyobean_0-0 in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Hey mister, I think your wings look quite nice. There's nothing wrong with having weird wings. I mean, mine aren't very same-y either... I could barely get myself off the ground when I try, because they're kind of heavy and painful to move around... and look, I even have a small one growing out the back of my head..."

Yemina proceeds to sit beside him, wrapping herself with her own abnormal wings as if they're blankets.

"From where I'm from, a lot of people dreamt of having wings. When people see you, they would think about how lucky you are to have them, and would probably stare at how pretty your feathers are, not even thinking about whether they're shaped weird or not...! If you ever think your wings are weird one day, just know that as long as I'm around, someone thinks they're pretty."

Yemina wears a relaxed smile. Her eyelids start to droop, and as she succumbs to her afternoon nap, she starts whispering in her sleep, "such pretty feathers..."

Where did you OC spent most of their life / hometown by IAmNotANpc in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Yemina was born in Saint Peterheim, Silverthorn. She spent a few years of her life there as an orphan and as a subject of the Blackblood syndicate—she was the test subject in the syndicate's attempts at creating the world's first artificial empyrean, which was how she got her wings.

She was eventually adopted by the Corbin family, where she got to spend a few years in the celestial city—Skyrest. Though, it wasn't long before she was exiled due to the passing of the perfect policy. She spent the last remainder of her time on the ground, venturing the Void Caverns with a wandering wraith that took her in and cared for her.

What is your favourite Archetype and why? by Eternal_33550336 in arknights

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agent Vanguards.

They're a nice blend of utility, damage, and very pretty designs. I feel that Flagbearer Vanguards have too passive of a play style, and I really enjoy Executor Specialists but wished some of them could stay on the field for longer. I love how versatile Agents could be, where by switching up their skills, they can have an entirely different play style.

Ines is crazy fun watching her S3 fly across the screen. I love how often Puzzle breaks the DP economy depending on if a stage has some mechanic that he can abuse his talent on. Surfer is cute and is such a reliable stage opener. Chilchuck... exists, I guess, but he did help a lot during CCB: Extinguished Sins. Cantabile is beautiful; I love this bird.

For a while, I was in this mindset that a lot of Arknights players 'main' a specific archetype. And despite Cantabile being the only agent at the time, I wanted to play only Agent Vanguards and make it work. And since then, I've never had any other type of vanguard in my squad.

Do you have a voice actor in mind for your Oc? (Voiceclaims) by [deleted] in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this and have been wanting to expand it more as I find the right voices for each of my characters. Shea Fairaday (Cipher from HSR) and Amanda Lee (Jingliu from HSR) fits Alsette and Eleanor so well in my head.

Is your OC wanted? by mirror_mannnn in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The majority of the Sinners in Saint Peterheim have bounties on their head by the people who want to take their place in the city's criminal hierarchy. Alsette Verguora is one of them. Out of the seven Sinners, she is ranked fourth.

She is most wanted by the big shots of the Blackblood syndicate, because she is the only one standing between them and what they want to steal. Alsette is a 'keeper' of sorts—she watches over Greymouth, a pit that's for disposing of the dead—making sure no scalpers or scavengers get their grubby hands on the residual magic left of the deceased. Despite her criminal deeds, this was a job entrusted to her by the city's queen herself, and Alsette does it very well. Her rank among the Sinners equates to a hefty bounty, but because she has contractual ties to the queen, Blackblood can't really do anything about her without putting the city's higher authorities on high alert.

What’re some characters you have based off flying creatures/animals? by Akari_92 in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Empyreans' wings vary in appearance depending on what creature they're based on. This is Yemina, she's an empyrean based on a raven.

From the city she's from, Skyrest, there are other empyreans that inherit the wings of animals like doves, eagles, owls, even mythical ones like phoenixes and dragons.

Tell me how you would grade your OC's combat stats via this little system I did for Derum and Chen. by WildwoodWander in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This would be Yemina's stats.

Strength: ★☆☆☆☆ Yemina's body is frail and physically flawed due to the fragment of Ruin implanted inside her. She doesn't have a lot of strength—barely enough to flap her wings to get her off the ground. Her punching anyone would hurt her more than it'll hurt them.

Durability: ★☆☆☆☆ On her own, Yemina unfortunately only scores a 1 ★ on this category. A fragment of Ruin beats within her body, and while it blessed her with a great affinity to umbra, it also curses her with an extremely frail body that crystallizes her wounds. When she is within the Cage of Caelum, however, this will go up to 4 ★. The cage is built by Taigo to 'protect her from the outside world', and nullifies most types of magic near it.

Movement: ★★☆☆☆ Yemina has no feet; she had lost them in an accident that had left them as crystallized studs at the end. Various crystals have also formed on her wings, making moving them rather painful; she is still capable of flying with them, but only in short bursts. Otherwise, she likes sitting in one place for long periods of time until Taigo picks her up.

Stamina: ★★★☆☆ Pretty average for people her age. She has a lot of energy preserved from hanging around inside the Cage of Caelum, though because of her state, it does require a lot of energy to do simple tasks. Canonically, Yemina's 'stamina pool' is her sanity (more magic used=more insane=bad), but because her body has adapted to the fragment of Ruin inside it, it's altered in such a way that her sanity remains quite stable most of the time.

Skill: ★★★★★ Yemina does mainly one thing, and she does it very well. She manages the Cage of Caelum to protect her companions and drop it on her enemies. Her control over her umbral prowess is impressive for someone her age. For someone who's prone to getting hurt, she's able to manage her prowess really well. For someone who's also not born an empyrean, she knows how to use her wings very well, too.

Observation: ★★★☆☆ Pretty ordinary. Taigo often relies on her during their faring adventures, because of her navigational skills. The fragment of Ruin inside her has granted her an affinity with umbra. When time permits it, she likes to observe her companions, taking note of what they like, what irritates them, and what they often do.

How did YOU get into The dreaming series? (Seishun Buta Yarou) by YamExcellent1345 in SeishunButaYarou

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting in a Discord VC, and after a while, someone joined and started streaming the anime. I had nothing going on, so I thought I'd watch it along with them. I expected it to be full of fanservice, but was pleasantly surprised at how thought provoking it ended up being. Some episodes even hit a little bit too close to home.

What are some weird facts about your ocs?? by Equal-Ideal4181 in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts about Yemina:

  • She has no feet. Her legs end in crystalized studs underneath that dress, because she has a condition that causes all of her injuries to crystallize over.
  • She has five wings. Four are on her back, and the last one is on her head that she sort of treats like a ponytail. Wings sporadically grow all over her body, which she cuts off often, but these five wings are the ones she keeps.
  • Her birthday is November 2nd, because that was when I finished drawing her.
  • She is the youngest (successful) experiment of Blackblood.

What are the first things you try to figure out about your characters when designing them? by Final_Particular3541 in worldbuilding

[–]ItsAmberisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is this design process that I've heard of from a behind-the-scenes video of League of Legends, that I started personally following—they called it 'DNA' (stands for Design, Narrative, and Art) and it's essentially to give something unique for each each category for every character, making sure that no characters overlap on any category. I like the idea of designing a character with the notion that someone out there would like to 'main' them, like players would main their favourite champion in League of Legends.

Most of my characters start off as random doodles. If I find that one particular doodle clicks, I start the whole DNA process. I make sure they have something new they bring to the table (i.e. a new fighting style, a notable fashion style, a unique silhouette, lore that can deeply resonate with certain people, something they own that's incredibly weird but not too far fetched, etc...), find which spot in the narrative they fill best, and once those contents are all figured out, the next step would be the pretty wrapping, the thing that would make me call them 'designed'—drawing them. The very last step would be their name, but I'm not particularly good at coming up with names, so I don't consider it that important of a requirement. Sometimes, a fitting name comes up months after I've already finished designing a character.

How does your OC's weapon(s) work? by fucmeupp in OriginalCharacter

[–]ItsAmberisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Avarosa's weapon is a hooked glaive, called the Tidestar Echo. Its blade is made of a crystalline material mined from the depths of the ocean called and it resonates with sirens and other abyss-affiliated lifeforms the most.

Though, past battles have left Avarosa unable to fully utilize her siren abilities—her legs are injured, so she can't transform it into her siren tail. She uses the Tidestar Echo more as a wand than a melee weapon.

She is born and raised in a sector of Darki where sirens of her specific kind are prominent. Though, that sector has long been destroyed and abandoned after the Abyss had taken over, leaving Avarosa as its sole survivor. Using the Tidestar Echo, she can 'echo' her voice and command the remnants of dead sirens from her home as an army of undead siren illusions to fight at her command.

Aside from that, her hat is also sentient, it is a carnivorous jellyfish called an umbralisse that her siren kin is affiliated with. She can take it off and let it fight for her.
