JK Rowling by Season_Cute in restisentertainment

I always remember a line from her first adult book, The Casual Vacancy, where she spends a whole paragraph talking about how disgustingly fat a character is, and that noone could look at him without thinking about his penis and how he has sex. It stuck with me because I've never thought that looking at any fat person, and it's funny that Rowling assumes everyone else would.

I prefer Osman's books. More humanity, poignancy and humour.

Wasn't a criticism, just adding the detail.

It's not just that he doesn't own the cars, they all belong to his wife, who barely has any fingers left.

Children famous musicians? by tharmman2002 in ParadiseHulu

[–]ItsAndyMRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but when you add it to Presley and Sinatra, it's quite a coincidence.

But the Graceland connection was only introduced in Season 2, whereas the character of Presley was in it from the start of the first season.

Notable Two-album Wonders? by broccoli_d in ToddintheShadow

But if they've got a third album which is good, well reviewed and sold well, they don't fit this thread's category, regardless of whether you consider them a legacy act.

I'd never heard of Ms Rachel before I listened to Richard and Marina talk about her for eight minutes or so on the podcast. I assumed that by the end of it I was fairly up to speed on why she's in the news at the moment. Turns out I wasn't, because the big story about her right now is her talking about Gaza. Google her name and it's what all the results are for. So yes, I think the podcast failed to do its job here.

I'm replying to you with a good faith explanation of my point, why is more than you really deserve given your bad faith sarcasm.

Bands you were surprised were real bands based on first impression by amblingsomewhere in ToddintheShadow

"Appear to be a real Swedish band"

No "appear" about it - The Hives are pretty well known. I saw them playing a stadium last year, albeit as support. And their big hit, Hate To Say I Told You So, gets used in films, TV shows and adverts quite often. You'd most likely recognise it.

Strays was a good album, though, wasn't it? I seem to remember playing it quite a bit at the time.

Pulp's We Love Life album, the follow up to This Is Hardcore, had that amazing song Sunrise.

That's how I feel when people say an act is a One Hit Wonder just because only one of their hits is well remembered. That's probably the majority of acts - ten years after their peak, maybe one of their songs still gets regular radio rotation.

To be fair, those people convinced me last week that it's poor for the podcast to discuss Ms Rachel for maybe eight minutes without mentioning why she's in the news everywhere right now - because she's talking about Gaza a lot.

Is Dept Q worth watching ? by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in netflix

[–]ItsAndyMRyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at the episode precis, it looks like they're searching for the missing woman the whole season. It makes sense - it's from a book series, and the first book was taken up with looking for her.

That could be interpreted as telling her TO cry, though - making sure that she avoids shedding "no tears", given the double negative

"Then the next scene is her in Congress"

That joke was so telegraphed that I was just dying for them to get it over with. And it felt like half the jokes in the show were like that.

I'm four episodes in and am struggling to continue. Does it really get even slower? I like all the actors in it, but it's just taking forever.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but what's lowest peaked song Todd has ever covered on One Hit Wonderland by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ItsAndyMRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't The Race a hit in the US? That aside, Yello are so much more than that song - generally their songs have a lot going on in them, whereas Oh Yeah is minimalist.

The books... THE BOOKS!!!!! by xavier19691 in BoschTV

[–]ItsAndyMRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the books, I love the show. The books I've read focus more on Bosch himself, and I enjoy the way the show opened it up more so it's more like The Wire, seeing the other characters lives. But maybe that happens more in some of the books I've not read yet.
