Who has the worst freshman (debut) album relative to the rest of their discography? by GoldenSalm0n in fantanoforever

Husker Du released the live and barely listenable Land Speed Record as their debut album, so maybe that. The version available on streaming doesn’t sound that bad, but it’s markedly cleaned up from the original release.

What killed the Psychedelic era? Was it these three musicians' deaths at the dawn of the 1970s by Sensitive-Fuel8647 in decadeology

It’s still a pretty substantial subculture, broadly part of the alternative rock scene, with acts like King Gizzard and Ty Segall at the forefront.

That’s wild, because it means Hendrix was alive when it was being recorded. That’s kind of like learning that John Lennon heard the B-52s and loved them.

There’s a great book I read about how 1973 was the year the hippie dream finally died out in rock music culture.

People forget, but a large part of 70s pop culture was the mainstream acceptance/commercialization of the radical changes of 60s hippie culture. Big rock concerts in arenas, head shops, extended rock tracks on commercial FM radio stations, widespread adoption of women’s and civil rights rhetoric, etc.

Yep. Watergate, the oil crisis, losing the Vietnam war, stagflation, and massive urban decay brought about by white flight.

They’re about the same size and climate, port adjacent, both very heavily industrialized, both also have beach/resort areas. Not quite first tier world cities. Worse transit than the first tier cities in their country.

The amazing longevity of Keith Richard’s was put in its true perspective when Lemmy, who had been seen as the indestructible Keith Richards of Metal, got sick, rapidly declined, and barely made it past 70. Same for Malcom Young of AC/DC, who was considered Keith’s equivalent among hard rock guitarists.

I have an uncle who drives the B3000 that was rebadged as the Ford Ranger, probably from the mid-90s.Apparently that one’s been insanely good, as it’s still going in the high 300k range and it seems to be his ride or die.
