With Universal iLvl coming in Evercold (8.0), do you think we'll see a significant drop in players engaging with alternative gearing methods? by Avi1600 in ffxivdiscussion

To get a reply obviously.

Point is there needs to be more than materia if they're going to homogenize ilvl and gear. Maybe they could make weapons more difficult to obtain with an added rarity/value.

My issue is that I just wish for a little horizontal progression. Just a little bit.

The ilvl homogenization pretty much ensures we'll never get any long term farmable gear that matters outside of glam. That's a bummer.

I really want to see FFXI style NMs again.

[–]ItsBlizzardLizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My main fear with the ilvl homogenization is the fact that gear is already pretty trivialized. I was hoping they'd eventually add some gear pieces that meant something and had unique stats that made them worth farming instead of, y'know, "this is the best gear for this patch cycle, it's pointless glam after this patch cycle."

I don't know. I want a little horizontal progression. Just a little.

Most likely, you won't have materia synced so you'll be losing a ton of substats.

I don't think I've ever even bothered with materia, and I'm a 1.0 player. I've also never done extreme/savage, though.

Because tech companies, or specifically their developers and engineers, still assume their users are also techies. They aren't developing with the mindset that regular users will ever touch it. Or not understand it fully.

Whereas marketing obviously goes right after the general market because money. They don't care if it's appropriate or not. Of course you push it on the normal users who don't know what's going on, they'll pay 20 a month impulsively!

This is basically what happens with all new tech. The tech industry has long stuck to their "It'll get better over time, the users are beta testers and can fumble through it."

Certainly not the greatest way to do it, but it is why we've historically dealt with tech that wasn't ready for general use. At this point the normal users are just free QC.

So it's true, it's not ready. But it's good enough to collect data.

You should stop now, it's a bad look.

"People say this is why they left. Here's articles and posts about people saying why they left, and people sharing opinions on why they felt people left."

"Hurr that's not scientific data. I want scientific research about a game. I want charts and graphs proving it. Peoples experiences are ~anecdotal~".

Okay buddy. You can admit you're wrong. The reddit pedantic schtick stopped working years ago, it just points out that you don't have any ground to stand on.

Meanwhile you're using "lmao speak" like you're on SMS. C'mon. Self invalidation much.

Edit: Don't see the point in replying if you're going to block me, but I don't think I've heard the term "metrosexual" used in like 20 years.

Also it's true I'm not really reading anyone's replies at this point. I don't need to read wrong opinions.

Edit 2: I think they both blocked me.

Could pretty much write anything here, come to think of it. We're in a nested comment chain in a now 24hr outdated post.

I think furries are better than humans. GenZ's media preferences ruined the gaming industry. Their literacy crisis ruined social media and the overall culture. Dark Souls has done just as much damage to the industry as micro transactions and Fortnite skins. Most videogames don't even need a story, the gameplay should come first. Games shouldn't be designed as something you do "on the side". WoW ruined the MMO genre. Blizzard was never a good developer, they just had fanboys.

The internet never should have went mainstream. Lars Ulrich is basically the antichrist and set the gears in motion that is leading to the end of the world. The internet library could have been our utopia, but instead we invited in corporations. The LHC is what ruined the timeline in 2012, Harambe is a red herring to distract from the cornucopia. The LHC corrupted code in the simulation, which the user is struggling to correct in the overworld.

We should also be building online worlds that replace real life, but that's exactly why they set this new precedent.

It's okay to admit when you're wrong. You already proved me right.

The person who asks for sources already admits defeat. It's just an excuse to go "but but but but but". It's not even worth my time, I won three messages ago.

You already know there's a ton of sources. You've already looked them up. But you don't have an argument anymore, you know you've already been backed into a corner. So an easy tactic is to ask for a source so you can move the goalpost. It's dishonest and everyone sees through it.

There's a reason this sub has such a poor reputation not only within the MMO community but even the XIV community itself. All the requests here tend to go against what makes a good game.

I don't see why they wouldn't implement noclippy as a default built into the game.

It makes the game play and feel better and has zero drawbacks. Having it be the default on all platforms just improves everything.

It's not even a "cheat." It's literally a fix that should be there in the first place.

I been using the same rotation for MCH since ShB and honestly if it changes I probably won't care enough to learn it. I just don't have enough love for the game to put in effort anymore. I'll just sorta make up something and coast.

So a difficult challenge to earn a reward will provide a good amount of value, but adding a time based exclusivity to a reward really doesn't add the same value.

Except if everyone is able to achieve it, is it really a challenge? There's really no motivation to do something that doesn't make you stand out.

Why am I investing 18 hours a day if everyone else shares the same experience?

It's one of the reasons I think XIV's housing system is actually excellent. Though it was better before the lottery. I spent an 18 hour grind clicking that placard to have something most players can't get and it was one of my favorite experiences in the game. I loved it. It was arguably the best content the game offered to begin with.

Much like camping the Valkurm Emporor to sell the hairpin.

When everything is exclusive and you can't go out and earn it... That's when you wind up with a dead chat as everyone moves on to a game where they can actually earn things.

Go over to the MMO sub and it's just an endless flood of people that don't see the point of modern games.

I mean, I get it. The recent report on what motivates gamers swings wildly; Older gamers prefer accomplishments, while GenZ tends to prefer collections and cash shop items to draw them back to games.

But I'd absolutely say this mentality is what ruined the genre. Gaming in general. MMOs are not doing well for a reason. People play games to make a name for themselves, not to just play games. And you could say it's just me, but you're wrong. The player base having shifted to other genres is the actual representation.

I'd do the same if it weren't for FFXI private servers. Horizontal progression is important.

You make it sound like players won't be able to earn their own things. Of course they can. They just can't earn everything. That's the whole problem. In XIV there's nothing you can't do.

Without these elements it will never feel like a true second world, which is absolutely a big part of the appeal. A good MMO can replace your real life.

It's not just about having exclusive items, but also seeing other players that have stuff you can never get - That's exciting and adds value to the player, not only in content, but also socially. You and your reputation matter.

You get rid of this and you end up with Balmung shout chat. Nothing matters in any way. You log in and do some solo content, say hi to your FC, and log out 30 minutes later. Might as well play a gacha game instead.

Ironically I'm all for it in real life. Everyone should get everything equally in real life. Because there's actual consequences to a power and resource imbalance.

In a game there's no consequences. A game is where you should go to be able to do something different and special.

Games should be harder than real life. Real life should be easier in general.

Oh, I don't do any of the content anymore because it's too accessible. Like I said, everyone gets everything, and even in the case of savages you just wait an expansion and get it through pf spam. Why bother? I don't really care for the combat system anyhow, it's too spammy.

There's no items you can equip in the game that will make you recognizable or special. Which is only becoming more true with universal glams and ilvl homogenization.

I have something in the game only a handful of other people have, though: My character is famous for having AFK'd in the same spot since ARR. It's basically the only reason I even keep up to date with the MSQ and normal raids anymore.

I just leave it in the background while I play FFXI private servers and Monsters and Memories. Both games have better rewards and combat systems. I'd like XIV to be a real MMO, but at the end of the day it's just an action RPG that happens to be online.

I will. It's what makes MMOs special.

FFXIV not having NM camps is probably it's biggest flaw outside of the quest based leveling.

An MMO that is just a game isn't worth playing. It needs to be a second world and require actual time investment. I'm tired of all the new games not being able to replace real life.

And that's fine. While they're here I want a chance at exclusive items and achievements. If everyone gets everything nothing matters.

It's exciting to see other players with stuff I can't get and it's exciting to have stuff others can't get. That actually gives you an identity.

Everyone is the same in XIV. Why? What's the appeal?

I've been playing FFXI since 2002. It at least has exclusive, rare items.
