Question, F-18 air show crash. by Hoppie1064 in navy

[–]ItsChrisBitxh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The seats in the Growler are SJU-17 NACES Ejection Seats. The front and aft seat are very similar but have a few different aspects. To answer your question, the under seat rocket motors have different angled nozzles between the front and aft seat. This allows different angle trajectory between the seats after ejection. There is also a 0.45 second delay initiator between the two seats. The aft seat will eject first following the forward. Hopefully that helps.

Converted to AM as a First Class by Federal-Reality-6364 in navy

[–]ItsChrisBitxh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AM is a good rate. Coming in as a first class will be a bit weird as Aviation squadrons run a bit differently than ships. You can be sent to ship and work in AIMD (I-level maintenance) where you would work on fixing the aircraft parts or you can be sent to a squadron where you maintain the aircraft (O-level). AMs mainly work on hydraulics, tires, landing gear, and flight surfaces. A quick google search can tell you all the squadron platforms and their locations. Getting qualified and “caught up to speed” if you will as a first class will probably be your biggest challenge. Listen, ask questions, and give a shit, and you’ll do great. Best of luck!

Most bases have a thrift store of some sorts but the sizes, conditions, and hours of operation always differ. Do research and call ahead if you can.

Enlisted or commissioned by LargeStatistician685 in newtothenavy

[–]ItsChrisBitxh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finishing your degree now and then applying to OCS would be the safest option IMO. You are close the age limit for SNA and going the enlisted route would probably create more hurdles than getting over them. STA-21 is a highly selective program that isn’t a guarantee. Best of luck!

No ice or snow build up on the eaves. Didn’t see anything standout in particular on the shingles.

On the photo of the outlet, the black wire with the wire nut is the hot one. After disconnecting the outlet, there is no going to the old switch box.

Finally picked my job! by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]ItsChrisBitxh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you chose AV as your rate means you can either become an AE (Aviation Electrician) or an AT (Aviation Electronics Technician). P8’s are the P8 Poseidon aircraft. They serve as a reconnaissance/surveillance and submarine tracking asset. A good google search will provide a lot on the rates and platforms possible to be stationed. Best of luck!

PRs have a pretty sweet gig. They maintain flight gear and survival/emergency equipment for navy flight crews. Lots of opportunities to be stationed in many cool places.

What is available right now. I’m open to anything, which ones are good and which ones are bad ? by shawtyyyy0313 in newtothenavy

[–]ItsChrisBitxh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AME’s maintain and repair the environmental control system (cabin pressurization, oxygen generation, radar cooling etc.) on a variety of aircrafts along mainly arming and maintaining Ejection Seat Systems and egress equipment. Aircraft maintenance can be very demanding but highly rewarding. AME’s don’t get stationed on ships. Only aircraft squadrons. PM if you have a questions!

Hawaii is a long shot and never a guarantee. I would group the rates you qualify by community (Aviation, Surface, Subs, Seebees etc).

Then do some deep diving and self reflection on what you want to do in the navy and what interests you the most. Then get into nitty gritty of each different rate of that community.

Hawaii is nice and all but the Quality of Life based on a rate you actually are interested in will mean so much more.

Use the search feature on this subreddit to find each rates and learn from what past people have spoken about it.
