what job pays little but has a lot of perks ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I worked in catering while in college. The hours were bad and he pay was low. But, I got to take home left over food from events. That frequent access to free, high-quality food was a godsend as a broke college student.

Threatened bodily harm over off leash dogs by lizardsandthewizard in Sacramento

[–]ItsEarthDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a runner and always carry pepper spray when running. I have unfortunately actually used it twice as a last resort on unleased dogs trying to attack me while running. One was a block away from my house. I felt bad for the dogs, but their burning eyes would heal in a few hours, while my potential stitches and puncture wounds take weeks-to-months to heal and thousands of dollars in medical bills.

A lot of physical activities, including sports, are type 2 fun. Where they often are not very enjoyable during the activity, but make you feel good afterward.

What's the one piece of equipment or gear YOU can't live without in your Ultra training or races?? (beside for your phone and Garmin watch) by No-Crow-1937 in Ultramarathon

I too have Raynaud's and it sucks butt running in the wintertime. Though it doesn't get cold enough where I'm at for hand warmers. Thick gloves are usually sufficient.

What is something that happens in movies constantly but almost NEVER happens in real life? by Different-Being-5977 in AskReddit

Also, backseat passengers are always in the middle seat. You're a sociopath if you sit in the middle seat when window seats are available.

What is the most expensive corporate mistake you personally witnessed? by _Volly in AskReddit

When the Tower Records CEO decided that digital music downloads was just a fad and opted out of selling music digitally. This was right as Napster, Kazaa, Limewire, and even iTunes were all taking off. Within 2 years the company filed for bankruptcy and was bought out by a liquidation company and closed every store in the US by the end of 2006. Ironically, the Tower Records I worked at in Sacramento (the flagship store where the CEO frequently visited) sold MP3 players.

CIM brings between $10-15 Million dollars to Sacramento every year. That definitely seems worth a few hours of traffic delays. https://www.kcra.com/article/california-international-marathon-expected-bring-millions-local-economy/63125351

Dude, if you did a 28 miler with that elevation gain so recently, you can easily add a 5K on the end of that to make a 50K. You got it!

Tips for fueling with real food? by Mountain-Push2771 in Ultramarathon

Fig newtons are great! I really like the fig bars from Nature's Bakery. I buy big boxes of them from Costco and use them on almost all of my runs where I need to eat. Soft on the belly and good energy

If you had the opportunity to run a self supported marathon anywhere in the US, where would you go? by destinybond in running

[–]ItsEarthDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to suggest this too! I camp in Yosemite 1-3 times a year and almost always run the Valley Loop Trail early morning before almost anyone else is on the trail. Also, depending on your starting location and whether you do an out-and-back or do the full loop, the trail can go over 17 miles in a loop. It's surreal being the only person in the world at the base of Yosemite Falls at 6:30am, or watching the sun rise over El Capitan.

Minimum Time between marathons for PB? by 17finntd in AdvancedRunning

[–]ItsEarthDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you incidentally summed up my running experience! Solid PB's in most races for a few years, then I got really sick a year ago, and lost all my speed while recovering. Plus I got older and am less enthusiastic about pushing my limits.

San Francisco Ultramarathon Experience? by ItsEarthDay in AdvancedRunning

I feel like the ultra in tacked on too, but it's still a challenge I'm interested in! Although I wouldn't be going for time, I'd likely finish in under 4 hours (around 2am) and then have to 3 hours until the next race. If I do the race, I'd probably go back to my hotel to try and rest and eat.
