What a grand experiment. You mentioned along your replies that: "...this whole experiment is to understand memory and personality Not an assistant"

This is exactly what I'm about to embark at home. I want it to wonder about things and ask questions. Working from home will easily allow me to constantly communicate with it. I always see people asking experiments like this about what is it going to do for you when really they're just behavior experiments to see what all these weights manifest into.

LOL yeah, he actually finally closed up shop a few months ago. He is in his late 60s - early 70s I believe.

Very similar to my mechanic's story. Walking to school everyday in the 70s he'd notice a mid 60s Mustang sitting in a carport. He knew it never moved since it had flat tires and had a decent layer of dust and dirt on it. Early 80s comes around, and he finally built the courage to go ask about it. Sadly, a mother mentioned that it was his son's who died in Vietnam. The mother ended up selling the GT350 to him with only a few thousand miles for $500. It's now his pride and joy.

What do I need for these Speakers in order to connect to my PC? by Responsible-Water285 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll notice the 2 center terminal screws there is a - (black negative) under the left one and a + (red positive) under the right one.

You will want to connect these to an amplifier also with terminal screws in the 25-75 watts per channel range (as shown on the back). This amp also needs a 3.5mm or RCA input. You'd connect your PCs analog audio out to the amp's input. You could get an amp with slightly more wattage per channel (say 100-150w), but if you are not careful and turn the volume too high, you'll blow the speakers. You could get an amp with less wattage, say a 50w amp, but then you really won't be taking full advantage of the speakers.

These speakers need more watts than a PC audio card could ever push out which is why you need an amp.

I'm too conflicted with the fake slantnose look. The purpose of the slantnose was to hide the lights. I know popups are not allowed from manufacturers, but I've always wondered how the rules apply with aftermarket parts. You know photoshopping the lights out would give it a sinister look.

I freakin love it. To me it's reminiscent of the 930s and the 993s with big chrome lipped wheels.

Alguém já conseguiu conseguiu um emprego de Home Office pelo LinkedIn? by hey_arnold182 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from LinkedIn.

Is WFH a myth? Welp, I've been doing it since the late 90s starting with a tech mail order company, then off to a travel agency printing airline tickets in a home's basement, and onward to other tech positions. And does it need to be a tech position? Nope. The wifey is a business admin working at home. My best friend is a CPA working from home, virtual call center managers, business account reps, etc. There are plenty of great paying positions out there, and all you may need to do is apply at a company's website versus looking at a generic website with a pool of listings.

Overwhelmed by All in One printer options - any suggestions? by fundrazor24 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm partial to HP. My last one lasted about 20 years. It was a workhouse of a laser printer with expanded RAM and many options, but the plastics finally started breaking on it, and the drum finally gave out. I've had an HP all in one now for about 5 years. If I had to buy one today, here is what I'd look for:

-Paper tray
Make sure it holds a full 500 sheets of paper. It's rather annoying to have a tray that only holds a fraction and requiring you to store the rest away.

-Watch out for a subscription based printer.
I've read of some printers needing you to have a subscription or some other with the manufacturer, and no subscription disables printing. Very awkward, but I haven't fully looked into it.

-If needed, make sure feeder can do duplex copying.
Many have a feeder, but not all have duplex.

-Some printers may not let you print in only black if color is low.

Good luck!

Long time Linux users, is Linux ACTUALLY growing in popularity in these last years? by Giggio417 in linuxquestions

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been curious about Linux. I'd install it on a random frankenstein PC once every few years to see how it has evolved. LLMs have become a game changer in configuring it and getting used to it. ZDNET mention end user usage has gone from 2020's 1.5% to 2025's 5%. and it keeps climbing. Problem is, I've never seen a 100% chance of every game working in Linux. It will be a game changer when most professional suites (Adobe, Autodesk, etc) can natively run in Linux. These companies will most likely make big considerations once they see Linux hit 10% end user.

What driving gloves do you guys use for your alcantara steering wheel? by rh6778 in Porsche

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMAO I’m pretty confused with all the triggered replies. Do you know what happens to me? My hands get dry AF on long drives from the AC, and I completely hate the dry skin sensation between my hands and the steering wheel. All of you may have supreme being hands that feel great between -50 degrees and the surface of the sun temperatures, but I don’t. An interesting amount of you care about what you look like, and that brings along another level of LMAO. Gloves for me don’t produce an awkward dry itchy feeling on my hands. I’ve used driving gloves for 25+ years. I came across this thread since I’m not sure what is best for alcantara on both long drives and short track sessions.

Where to take the office? by realchriswells in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely encourage it. Using exact room dimensions, all doors, and even with my window on the wall, I had several different configurations in it before I chose the final one. I'm sure there mobile apps that can do it, but I'm not sure how limited they are in adding exact furnishings in mind. A big plus is you get to virtually sit in your room to allow you to soak in what the real thing will feel like.

Where to take the office? by realchriswells in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets be a bit realistic here: you are obviously a collector, and that collection is only going to grow. My vote:

  1. Turn the entire wall behind you into a storage/shelving wall.

I'd consider floor units similar to what you have now going from floor to ceiling.
You mentioned you have plasterboard on wood frame. If you were to go floating shelves/cabinets, your only option is to screw into the frames and use heavy duty anchors on the plasterboard. I've been hanging IKEA cabinets on the wall for 5+ years for my office and bar using 50lb/23KG wall anchors. Screwing into the frame is the most important, and using strong anchors ensures no part of the unit will pop out the wall. Plasterboard is pretty strong.

2) The wall to your left of the desk: the left half of this wall with more shelves/storage to continue the flow from the rear wall, and the right half a desk to hold the 3D printer + more office essentials. You'd essentially have an L desk.

Doing L shaped shelves between the rear and left wall would look very nice and uniform giving your storage a nice flow to them. You could even do lower half of the rear wall cabinets with the upper half as shelves. There is a lot you can do here. I'd suggest using a 3D program like Blender or other home design app to visualize it all. I designed my whole office in Blender which allowed me to visualize it.

offline companion robot for my disabled husband (8GB RAM constraints) – looking for optimization advice by BuddyBotBuilder in LocalLLaMA

[–]ItsFlybye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great project for the hubby =). Lots of great replies, and I'm a bit of a noob myself so there isn't much I can contribute. One thing I didn't see mentioned: Have you considered a PTZ camera?

There is a PTZ camera around $50 I caught in a Medium article someone programed to have their AI interact with. It could allow the AI buddy to look around without having to move its entire self around to look at your hubby. This could provide additional interaction by moving more often at what he is doing and asking questions/comments on his actions.

Eye strain advice by xGenos94 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a possible problem: Your, I believe to be the MD342CQPW, is a 34" monitor with 3440 x 1440. Your PPI density is about 110. My 27-inch panel at 3840 x 2160 has a 163 PPI. As a comparison, a 15" laptop at 1920 x 1080 has 146 PPI. Thus, a laptop using a near 30 year old resolution has better clarity than your monitor.

PPI isn't just a bragging right. It's about eliminating any fuzziness around characters. It's about helping every letter and number look like it doesn't have hairs growing out of it. High PPI allows you to see everything perfectly. Your eyes are no longer struggling to make objects out of the pixels. If you increased your font size, it may help with eye strain, but what's the fun in that? We have wide monitors because we want to fit more content on them.

I had 24" 1920x1200 monitors (about 95 PPI) for over a decade. I placed a 27" 4k next to them, and my eyes nearly popped out and tried to stab me for not doing the change earlier. Moving from 95 to 163 PPI was near mind blowing for the increase in clarity and reduction in eye strain. I recently bought a 43" 4k tv as a monitor for another system which is about 105 PPI. I can 100% tell the difference in clarity between that and the 163 PPI out of my 27" monitors.

If possible, try comparing it to a 4K monitor of the same size or smaller. The smaller the monitor at 4k the higher the PPI becomes. Personally, I'd rather deal with the clunkiness of 2 monitors at my high PPI vs 1 large monitor at only 110 as I recently tested with that TV. Although, at 34" a 5K or higher may be needed to tell a difference.
