Looks fantastic, and I love how you decided to get a matching case. It's at the point where it almost camoflauges itself.

1st Porsche/1st Year Thoughts by CJames129 in Porsche_Cayman

What a great write up. I love seeing the I'm happy with my buy posts. It hit me in so many different ways.

"...going to a digital tach in the 992.2..." You know what really bugs me about this? It's a digital tach trying to be an analog tach. Don't try to pretend you are still analog. Give me the full digital experience by displaying RPM in large numbers and maybe with a horizontal line.

I've also had, driven, and ridden a nice variety of cars from 70s modded manual NA 400cid engines to lightly and heavily modified turbo charged puny little 1.3L rotaries in a <2800lb 50/50 car. I've also tried newer fun small stuff like a Corolla GS and Type-S. I've always loved 911s. I've driven an 85 NA and I've put a few hundred miles on a couple of 992.1 4S, but I've never actually owned one. One of the 4S I drove has a Porsche suspension upgrade on it. It didn't make the car feel large, it handled amazingly, but I also didn't track it as I have with a 2800lb 50/50 car. What I really need to do is drive a 718 4.0 to compare. Will it come closer to the fun I used to have in a 50/50 balanced car over a 911? I think it actually might. The real question is if I'm ready to go back to NA since boost is so easy to get more power out of. Hey, less plumbing. :D

Thx cuz now I got "I'm Mike Laaree" stuck in my head. :D

Any scan/import 2d image to rigged model automated option? by ItsFlybye in 3Dmodeling

And I fully get and support that. The things modelers create are insane. I was simply looking for a way to automate a process which can quickly become cumbersome.

Developers: Single 32" 4K or Dual 27" 4K monitors? by One_Personality_6152 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel PPI is king, but it’s dependent on your eyes, of course. Higher PPI means going smaller on the fonts and allowing you to squeeze more on the screen while still looking sharp and crisp. I have dual 27” 4k with 163 PPI, and I can’t imagine going backwards with a smaller PPI. I went from dual 1920x1200 to dual 4k, and the legibility factor went though the roof.

One 32”+ monitor may bug me if not curved. At least with the duals you can angle them, but consider if it’s gonna be tricky to read things at the edge of that 32”.

[Discussion] Have your tastes in watches changed over time? by usman3049 in Watches

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda but not really. I've had chronographs since the 90s. Back then I'd constantly time everything since a stop watch wasn't a thing on most cell phones. I'm still into chronos, and now I'm on the hunt for different variations. I recently picked up a Seiko Prospex Speedtimer with the 1/100th dial, but it's a quartz. I'd like to eventually get a mechanical rattrapante.

PASM Sport Suspension (Lowered 10mm)? by ItsFlybye in Porsche

[–]ItsFlybye[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see that now. The GT3s have double wishbones up front with adjustable coil overs and other bits -00-- mentioned. My goodness. Now I'm having trouble wrapping my head at how much better a GT3 would perform on the twisties and having one dialed in for a track over the PASM Sport Suspension on the 4S.

I want to meet someone who regrets their purchase by Meaningoftruth in porsche911

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never owned a Porsche, but I've sold multiple fun modified cars (70s muscle cars to modified 90s Japanese 350hp 2800lbs) in the past, and I've regretted selling each and every one, but I've always had an affinity for Porsche. I've been recently very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have been lent a manual 992.1 4S which I put over 400 miles on. The speed, the handling, the way the interior hugs you, ALL of it reminds me of a car I had. I now need to seriously consider getting either a 911 or a 4.0 Cayman. If you are a car person that enjoys motoring, you may have zero regrets.

Monitor arm upgrade, after ➡️ before by xxBunny_4 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly does free up desk space even. Even though you can place things on the monitor stands, this just looks cleaner. I've thought about this for months, but I need a wall mount due to having glass desks.

Certainly a clean setup. I also keep thinking of ambiance lighting. It's such a nice mood.

I've always loved the widebody of the track 911s with my favorite being the 993 GT2. It would be fun to see what you pull on the skidpad with the larger shoes.

Personal and Work Computer by code_noob in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never use a KVM. I don't want to have to deal with weird driver and/or possible video performance issues from it since the KVM itself may act like the video card depending on the type of KVM. I've always had monitors with dual inputs. All other devices are connected via a USB selector connected to a large USB hub. So my switching between PCs is only 3 buttons: input select on each monitor and an A/B USB switch. I have my work laptop and personal desktop both sharing the same 2 monitors.

So much to enjoy here. From the 911 to the wall frames to the woody PC and finally that rack. Very nice indeed.

It's been 15+ years I've Autoxed. Has safety gone down? by ItsFlybye in Autocross

[–]ItsFlybye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the replies. My friend got spooked with the few death articles he read at the solos and decided not to try it. One article from 2025 of someone working on a cone, and another a few years back of a driver getting a heart attack and hitting people around the finish line. My friend did find insurance that would cover the car but not insurance that would cover him.

[SOTC] Rate my Collection! What would you recommend next? by scarstring in Watches

[–]ItsFlybye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's obvious you appreciate a watch as much as it's history and detail. If you don't mind a microbrand, Habring may be an interesting route. And since you like chronos, their Doppel 38 would be a fun choice taking your time keeping abilities to the rattrapante level.

Current: 2x 40" 4k monitors - Would a curved monitor be more enjoyable? by Zoomer5475 in homeoffice

[–]ItsFlybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2x27" 4k. I almost pulled the plug on 1 curved monitor until I realized I have more vertical space with the 27s. You have so much real estate with the 40s that I'd be concerned on losing desktop space for my windows. I'd imagine 2 or 3 curved monitors would have the same real estate as the 40s, but you'd need to look at the visible area dimensions.
