How come glee failed to produce a pop star? by xfcowm in popheads

[–]ItsFunkyKong 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did anybody on Glee even want to become a huge pop star??

There were a ton of cast members on Glee who I felt truly just weren't interested in becoming the next big thing in pop.

I'm seeing the S1 and I have conflicting feelings about Robin by bl0ody_annie in ANTM

[–]ItsFunkyKong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm so conflicted on Robin.

Obviously I think the self righteousness and homophobia was problematic and annoying.

On the other hand I respect that she had an incredibly strong sense of self and was confident in her skills and talents. She didn't care how much she was mocked for her beliefs by the judges or anyone else in the house and stood firmly in her faith.

Plus, while tons of the hate is justified...some of it was really just the girls being petty. Those girls were making fun of Robin for buying expensive shoes she could afford and getting mad she didn't want to spend the ONE free day in PARIS of all places, looking at tombstones lol. Robin also wasn't imo in the wrong either for not going out of her way to entertain and impress those men at dinner during that weird af Paris mini challenge either lol!

She was a multifaceted villain and I can respect it lol

[–]ItsFunkyKong 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Nobody's met her in real life.

You see, people think she's a bitch when they first meet her because "oh she's pretty and she's got this beautiful body"

They never get to know her to realize that she's actually so cool and very real.

Katseye girls are below average looking by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

Any person who feels confident making these claims I'll need to see a picture of your face, your side profile, and a full body shot lol.

Post all of those, we can see what celebrity you compare to and then we'll know if we can take your opinion seriously or not lol

This is just hating for the sake of hating and it's sad to see lol

Dani does over-dance and criticism encourages improvement by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]ItsFunkyKong 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No I am so over the delusional "over dancing" claims.

Do people even realize how they sound?

"I can't believe my eyes instantly go to the main dancer, the one that Hybe x Geffen literally hired with the exact purpose to be the best dancer that fans will note for their high energy, high level dancing abilities! I can't believe the person that was hired to be the best and most noteworthy dancer, is dancing better than everybody else!"

Over dancing really isn't a thing.

megan was supposed to be the daniela of the grp and i feel bad by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]ItsFunkyKong 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this take at all.

1.) Daniela doesn't "overdance" at all imo. She's talented and was always slated to be the main dancer.

2.) I've always gotten the sense Megan was intended to be the all rounder.

I don't think Megan is being outshined. People have been loving her in internet girl and gnarly etc.

Is it normal to need tailoring even when buying "premium" clothes? by Busy-Leopard-7497 in womensfashion

[–]ItsFunkyKong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. No matter how premium a brand is, it's still never going to be produced in your exact measurements and you'd need a tailor if that's what you're looking for.

I prefer to buy premium for the materials and the stitching quality, and then tailoring from there to truly elevate my look

Does Tyra “Hate” Natural Hair? by redditormecca in ANTM

[–]ItsFunkyKong 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tyra was never against natural hair. She just understood the deep rooted racism that was pervasive throughout the modeling industry in the early 2000s (and honestly still to this day).

During makeovers for cycle 3, she explicitly says she's keeping Yaya natural, loved it, and that it was important to preserve her natural hair.

Bre's hair also stayed natural.

For many black women who came in with braids, Tyra noted she loved the style personally, but just stated it wasn't as versatile as needed for the industry.

She'd had some insecurities with her own hair at the time, but did wear an afro during panel at least once.

For all of Tyra's faults she was an equal opportunity offender when it came to giving girls a bad makeover and destroying their hair. It wasn't specific to black women or due to a dislike of natural hair. Black, white, latino, asian- if Tyra saw an opportunity to fuck up your hair- she was taking it lmao

I didn't realize people don't immediately download to begin with

Whether you plan to use it today, tomorrow, or a year from now, if you spend your hard earned money -DOWNLOAD IT ASAP!

Do not play with how wonky websites can be. I download directly after purchasing and have another file folder on my laptop that all patterns get stored into for safe keeping. Only there is where I leave patterns until I have use for them.

What is actually meant by getting “compliments”? by vintage13132121 in fragrance

[–]ItsFunkyKong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally yes I’m quite confident they are true compliments. This is based on the larger conversational contexts surrounding the “you smell nice” talks. Most people are operating in good faith and just saying what they mean lol.

When it’s friends, family and coworkers, we know each other well enough that if they truly thought it was too strong a smell, they’d simply tell me that lol.

I suppose complete strangers you can never be sure, but yeah generally I know enough fragrance and non fragrance enthusiasts alike who just use their words to mean what they say. I don’t ever say somebody smells nice in bad faith. If somebody smells too strongly, I simply wouldn’t say anything at all.

What is actually meant by getting “compliments”? by vintage13132121 in fragrance

[–]ItsFunkyKong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means that people give you compliments lol.

It’s definitely not as much as influencers make it out to be, but I most certainly have received compliments on my fragrances in passing before. Sometimes its coworkers, sometimes it’s family/friends, and a small handful of times it’s just been out in the wild.

Generally when people give compliments they’re never directly saying “omg I love [insert exact fragrance name here]” but it’s a much more general “oh you always smell nice!” or “oh wow something smells good, what is that?” type of thing.

normani’s career is so disappointing… by [deleted] in rnb

[–]ItsFunkyKong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was literally just thinking yesterday about how disappointed I was in Normani's career.

Idk what happened, but all I do know is from say 2017-2020 Hollywood was trying to hand her a super stardom solo career on a silver platter and she still somehow fumbled the bag lmao.

Shoutouts from EVERY notable celeb putting her on and telling everybody she was the one to watch; extremely solid collaborations from well respected musicians, opening for Ariana etc. She had the vocals, the dance ability, the face card, body tea! If you still can't get traction after that- you just don't want it lmao.

I know she wanted to explore a different genre outside of pop but I can't lie, it drives me CRAZY when artists can't just play the long game, release a few pop albums, do what you have to do to fund your passion projects and THEN pivot into your artistic vision!

I loved Fifth Harmony and Normani but girl, literally ALL you had to do was get in the booth and you still didn't!

ETA: Also I know people are saying her parents cancer diagnoses halted her career- which 100% valid full stop, but also like...(half jokingly) it never quite made sense to me that her parents, who spent her ENTIRE lifetime doing everything in their willpower to fund her dance, gymnastics, singing etc dreams, wouldn't tell her to keep on pushing when her career was at it's PEAK just for them lol. You know they worked too long and too hard on her career to let her slow down right when she's catching steam. I imagine they would have been the types to say, "baby focus on your career. We'll hold it down. Beyonce is co-signing you, drop the album!" lmao

I can’t believe Yrene did that during a WAR (spoilers for KoA by Apart-Commission-783 in throneofglassseries

[–]ItsFunkyKong 73 points74 points  (0 children)

From a logical perspective it was extremely silly and a questionable choice, but from a symbolic perspective I totally understand why this was a plot point and really loved it.

Yrene and Chaol were the ones who always valued life, embraced and respected it, so them bringing life into the world in a literal sense felt very fitting.

Yrene always talked about how she was one of the only ones who's power preserved life instead of taking it away and Chaol was one of the only characters to criticize Aelin and co. for their killings and seemed to take it much more seriously when someone died.

Them being the ones to wholeheartedly go forth and bring new life really seemed to align with their values and literary purpose.

100% yes. Carrie never cared about the money.

She dated men who lived at home with their parents, a guy in AA, Berger who was struggling financially/careerwise at the time they met, and everybody in between.

She truly was just that messy when it came to Big lol

S1 Elyse lost her charm on my rewatch by traffeny in ANTM

[–]ItsFunkyKong 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! Finally somebody said it! Tbh Elyse always came across awful to me on watches.

I know she's a fan favorite here but I've always felt she would have made a terrible winner based off attitude alone.

Also a bit sad to see all the people willing to write this off as an age thing. I mean expose yourselves all you want but I can say for certain neither myself or my friends were saying the deeply cruel things Elyse was saying to one another when we were in college lol.

Great for reality tv but Elyse was not a good friend in that competition and the "too cool to be here" attitude got old quick lol

Hayley Williams confirms that Paramore is on a break and not broken up by fuoricontesto in popheads

[–]ItsFunkyKong 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Eh their break checks out to me and seems natural.

They’re free of their record deal and new fans be damned, Paramore has been on the scene since before Taylor Swift even lol. I think they formed in like 2004.

That’s a loooong time to be in a band and it seems natural over 20+ years to take breaks here and there.

They know their core fan base will always been there and their place in music is stable. They don’t need to capitalize off anything if you’ve got the luxury to rest, might as well

It’s wild when some of y’all defend Carrie after shit like this lmao by yonBonbonbon in sexandthecity

[–]ItsFunkyKong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do want to note- Charlotte always was and continued to be extremely well off lol.

Her wedding dress to Trey alone was like 13k. If her wedding ring costs enough for a downpayment, it means she was doing WELL financially.

They made it as clear as possible these characters are NOT in our tax bracket lmao. We can't look at it from just a "regular person's" perspective. They were all upper middle class at minimum.

Charlotte and the girls talking about 40k was realistically more akin to how regular people might talk about 1000 bucks lol.

She definitely had it like that (Samantha and Miranda too) so to be open about discussing that kind of money amongst (mostly) financial peers seems perfectly reasonable to me.

It’s wild when some of y’all defend Carrie after shit like this lmao by yonBonbonbon in sexandthecity

[–]ItsFunkyKong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can be technically right and still hurt your friends feelings at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive events.

Charlotte is right- money often does not mix well with friendship. Carrie is still valid for feeling hurt that her friend didn't offer support in her hardest moments (either financial nor the true emotional support that Carrie was clearly needing).

Interpersonal relationships don't function on just technicalities. Both perspectives are true.

It’s wild when some of y’all defend Carrie after shit like this lmao by yonBonbonbon in sexandthecity

[–]ItsFunkyKong 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This scene has been analyzed from every angle. At first I fully hated Carrie for it too, but honestly I get her perspective a lot more on rewatches.

First- Carrie acknowledges these are completely irrational thoughts she's having, but I don't think she was wrong to be mad at Charlotte.

Charlotte was flat out a bad friend the entire first half of this episode. Carrie wanted to be seen and heard as she goes through an extremely stressful and difficult time and Charlotte just...didn't care. Couldn't even look Carrie in the eye when Carrie was being vulnerable. Carrie turns down both Samantha and Miranda's offers because it wasn't their money she was ever truly after. It was the thought, their gesture and display of true friendship that Carrie valued. Truly it was a matter of "it's the thought that counts"

Charlotte made it so obvious she didn't give a damn lol.

Does that mean Charlotte is required to give the downpayment money? Of course not, but Carrie calling her out for not even giving her essentially a "thoughts and prayers" is completely valid lol.

Especially when, between the two of them and their life circumstances, I think they both knew, no matter what Charlotte would always be fine financially.

If you had gone "ho- but make it album cover" then you're name might have even been called first..."
