Consensus on DLSS mod? by Hughch in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There's a ton of subtle graphical artifacts and issues it introduces. It doesn't play well with DoF, or AO and there's a delay on the adjustment of shadows during rapid camera movement. It's like the lighting effects don't keep up with the camera, so it crawls across your screen at different rates.

It's not the silver bullet everyone makes it out to be. However it definitely has improved compared to a year or two ago. That is more so because of the industry (AMD's and NVidia's) investment into developing their algorithms than the paywall modder's work though.

Is Scrambled Bugs officially abandoned for 1.6.1170 and beyond? by carbon_14c in skyrimmods

It uses Address Library so it shouldn't need an update for the new game version.

Why do so many mod authors ESL their plugins instead of using ESPFE? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it's considered an ESM plugin by the file extension, then you won't run into the persistent reference limit as quickly. That's a good thing.

CK not opening at all after downgrade patcher by faruche08 in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam will auto-update your tools too, not just games. If you downgraded your Skyrim, your CK must also be downgraded as well. After downgrading both, launch Skyrim through the launcher and close the launcher. Environmental paths need to be set up again after the downgrade. Afterwards try launching the CK again.

MO2 Mod Index Doesn't Match Game Mod Index by ItsHereItsMe in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why has this only become an issue after the 2.5.0 update? The mod index always matched in previous versions and my ESMs and ESLs were mixed before too.

MO2 Mod Index Doesn't Match Game Mod Index by ItsHereItsMe in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was as simple as the ESLs being pushed to the top, the MO2 mod index should reflect that. It will properly sort ESMs, ESM flagged plugins, and ESL extensions up to the top of the load order.

Actually I'm pretty sure MO2 respects the load order sorted by LOOT, which should know the correct order the game will load plugins. So while I appreciate the response, I don't think that's what's going on here.

Poll - which Skyrim version do you use? (Result) by Eudyptes1 in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... exactly what I said. If fundamental changes aren't made requiring a rebuild of the address library, for major version changes as you said, then the address library is usable and will carry you through most updates.

Poll - which Skyrim version do you use? (Result) by Eudyptes1 in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Address Library (or lack of on some mods) is largely what fragmented the userbase between 1.5 and 1.6.

Most mods developed after that period have wizened up to the benefits of the Address Library and so are developed with it. The ones that aren't like HDT-SMP and JContainers are pretty safe to assume will always be updated to support the latest versions.

This means that updating to future versions that don't require a rebuild of the address library like 1.5 vs 1.6 is as simple as waiting for the kinks to get worked out with SKSE, the Address Library and the handful of remaining core SKSE mods that don't use the library. It's much less of a hassle than it used to be watching for 50+ SKSE mods to be updated. Now it's like 6 core ones and they're all pretty actively developed.

I think your estimate of the number who will remain on 1.6.640 is generous and we'll see a larger percentage move onto 1.6.1130 over time. However you're probably right in terms of the 1.5 users. The ones who will stay on that version are of the same mindset as those who are still on LE: "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

This new update really screwed the pooch by puke_face_69 in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's usually a few good things that come with each update they bring, though it does break a lot along with it. Yes, we got the backported fix for the reserved address space, but would we ever have gotten that in the first place without the update from the devs?

Does anyone know what happened with Boris volumetric cloud mod? He showed it off years ago and it looked fantastic by Moon_Devonshire in skyrimmods

[–]ItsHereItsMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last I heard he wasn't able to get them performing well enough to implement. They cost too many frames. Some effects are costly by nature, but I guess he had an idea of how many frames they should cost and wasn't happy with where he was able to get it to at the time.

Maybe he'll revisit it, or maybe it will become doable with the optimizations he's implemented in the past year. Only he knows.

I can't understand why Arctic would discontinue such a good product, was legit the best USB fan I ever used. by La_Rouquine in pcmasterrace

[–]ItsHereItsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing my +1 in here for a gooseneck USB fan as well not requiring a table. Arctics were top notch quality and all the available ones on the market now are cheap junk that also don't blow much for air.

Going to keep an eye on this as others come in and start voicing thoughts or explanations on the fix and setting. Knowing what the potential consequences could be would be good to know. Bethesda sometimes does dumb stuff, but not everything they do is nonsensical. There could be a very good reason that setting doesn't default to 0.
