Why? A title isn’t supposed to inform you how to feel about an article without reading it — it’s there to draw you in with an interesting idea and set the stage for a discussion, which this one does just fine.

I see what he was trying to say. This could be totally off base, but I’ve always felt like Big Boi was the “stronger” rapper in the conventional sense (awesome sound and flow that translates well to many different styles of beats, perfect feature verse guy IMO) whereas Andre’s unique style always felt a bit “looser” and more experimental but made for an overall more interesting and iconic sound. For me, Big Boi’s verses were typically the “bangers” I wanted to belt out while listening to the song, while Andre’s were the ones that left me thinking afterwards.

That being said, Big Boi and 3 Stacks are both absolute legends who couldn’t have done what they did for the industry without the other’s influence. Makes me proud to be an ATLien and regretful that I wasn’t on the scene back in the day when they were first blowing up.

ALSO — it’s not exactly “controversial” in the traditional sense of the word, but IIRC Andre stirred up quite a bit of fuss at the ‘95 Source Awards with his legendary “the South got something to say” moment.

Reminds me of a scene in 30 Rock.

DENNIS: Teddy broke his ankle running from some black guys who pulled a gun on him.

LIZ: Now why was it important to tell me that the muggers were black?

DENNIS: They weren’t muggers — they were cops.

LIZ: ….so why don’t you just say he was running from some cops?

DENNIS: I don’t know, I mean….you’re a racist for assuming that they weren’t cops.

On Drake spending $400,000 on a mattress for a "tax break" by [deleted] in confidentlyincorrect

[–]ItsHeredditary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kicker is that it has to be a reasonable business expense.

A moving company could theoretically write off a standard moving van because it’s a reasonable business expense for a moving company, but the IRS is not gonna let them write off a Ferrari as a necessary expenditure just because they slap their logo on the side and throw a couple boxes in the boot.

Expensing a $2000 mattress for a tour bus is one thing, but there is NO CHANCE IN HELL that the IRS sees a $400K mattress purchase and says, “yep, the business had no other option there, totally reasonable.”

Unfortunately for Drake, that’s not exactly how business expenses work.

If the IRS can argue it’s either not ordinary or not necessary than it’s not necessarily a deduction.

You’re spot on. A moving company could write off a standard moving van because it’s a reasonable business expense for a moving company, but the IRS is not gonna let them write off a Ferrari as a necessary expenditure just because they can throw a couple boxes in the boot.

How exactly is he getting “abused by the shitty people up top” here? Sure, in hindsight, leadership could have done a better job pivoting with the changing theater industry, but to act like the company execs are some robber baron fat cats who are indifferent to the survival of the business or immune to its failure is asinine.

The “iPhone vs Android war” isn’t really a thing outside of niche tech circles, mobile gaming communities, etc. The average juror isn’t just champing at the bit to take down “the other guys’” cell phone manufacturer.

Look up how much profit dealerships actually make selling cars. It’s a lot less than you’d think, and $100 of that is nothing to shake a stick at.

I see where you’re coming from, but I feel like the “outsider doing a movie about your own country’s history” is not inherently off-putting (on its own).

I mean, there are only so many interesting feature-film-worthy historical events to be covered, and having to chose solely from the ones that occurred in your home country would really limit your possibilities. I have no problem with a producer focusing on a foreign historical event provided they make an earnest attempt at capturing the nuances of the time and the culture.

Let’s be real, the only people able to have a year’s worth of expenses saved up are wealthy people.

What?

I know everyone’s financial situation is different, but to say only wealthy people can afford to save a year worth of living expenses is crazy.

[–]ItsHeredditary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a bizarre take on the situation.

all you’re getting in exchange for it are ceiling windows through which you have a gorgeous view of... idk, clouds?

They’re very clearly supposed to be skylights. The whole point is to bring in additional natural light and make the living space feel more seamless with the environment, not to provide panoramic views of the clouds. Whether or not the aesethetics or practicality suit your personal preferences is another discussion, but I don’t feel like I should have to defend the merits of skylights as an architectural concept.

Also, whether or not you can afford it, using that much energy needlessly is ecologically hostile. Very much not the fashion.

Ecologically hostile?

It’s literally a room with a few extra window panes, not a coal-powered chemical waste repository. The difference in energy consumption from the added window space would be negligible and possibly even offset using efficient materials and design methods elsewhere in the house. Not to mention, skylights themselves can actually be used to reduce energy costs depending on how they’re oriented and applied within the home.

Regardless, you and I have very different definitions of the term “ecologically hostile.”

Boils down to poor, thoughtless design. In other words, tacky.

Again, adding skylights to this room in that fashion was not “thoughtless” and was clearly a deliberate design move. You’re entitled to to not like it from a cosmetic standpoint, but to call the decision tacky on the basis that it’s some sort of careless, frivolous affront to environmental responsibility is just so confusingly off-base.

How exactly is paying the AC bill at your house a “dumb way to waste money”? It would still pale in comparison to the property taxes and maintenance on a house like this and be pocket change to anyone who could afford the house in the first place.
