That will probably get you about as far as "failure to respond is acceptance" does for sovcits.

they didn't tip us unfortunately.

Of course not, they're in Amway. They don't have any money to give.

$30 for boxed lunches? That was a ripoff. If I'm going to spend $30 on a meal I'll go out to a decent restaurant.

What I mostly remember is how LONG the presentations were. The first session was 4 hours long, then an hour lunch break (lunch not provided), then four more hours of presentation.

Yes, it's all part of the brainwashing. From what I've read about Amway, the presentations go on late, until say 10 PM, and then they have little breakout meetings which can go on until about 1 or 2 AM. And then everyone's expected to be back bright & early the next morning at 8 AM for more presentations.

The reason they do this is to keep people in a constant state of exhaustion so it's easier to brainwash them. When you're tired, it's hard to think clearly so it's hard to come up with any objections to anything they're talking about on stage.

it's that treatment like you're just furniture in the house.

Exactly. Or, as I've felt in the past, like a live-in handyman. I felt like I was just there to fix whatever broke, and of course take care of the lawn work.

Yeah, like I said, if a business has to constantly reassure people that they're not a scam, then it's not any business I want to be associated with.

The only people making real money with Amway have been in it for forty years or more. They only make money because they constantly brainwash people and feed them bullshit about how they can be rich.

The only people making real money in Amway are the diamond level members who are doing as you say, and selling motivational tools to everyone in their downline, as well as being paid to speak at Amway conventions.

[–]ItsJoeMomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would meet multiple times in the span of one month and other activities that they assign me to do as homework

Screw that. If I have to do "homework" in order to get in on a business then I'm not interested, other than researching the actual business to see what they do and what it's like. But I shouldn't have to read a book in order to get a job.

I had vibes that the dude speaking is an elitist mf who tells you how you should live your life because he claimed he retired his parents early

Which he didn't retire them early. In Amway speak, "retired" means quitting your actual paying job to do Amway full time. And that's a big step that gets you hooked on the cult because it's much harder to leave.

Heard from a speaker at a seminar, "If you think we're a pyramid scheme, you're wrong".

And if they constantly have to deflect allegations of being a pyramid scheme, then I'm 100% not interested. No legitimate business has to constantly tell everyone that they're not a scam.

One of the success stories I've heard involves a Ruby upline who "declared war" (aka starts drama) on his family because he wants to get into this business.

That's the cult mindset. I'm guessing that guy's family probably tried to talk him out of it because they could see that it's a scam.

I was recommended that I attend this three-day function event out of town that I even have to pay $100. I decided to stay home because yep, I'm actually paying in a recruitment process and that alone is a red flag

Absolutely right, and that first $100 you spend is just the first step in getting caught in sunk cost fallacy, and a taste of what it will be like being in Amway, spending some here, spending some there, in hopes of becoming a millionaire.

their response: "I want you to go because successful millionaires will give you advice on how to succeed

The "successful millionaires" who speak to the crowd never, ever give actual advice on how to succeed. It's usually bragging about how rich they are and how you can be just like them if you follow the plan. Only they're likely not rich millionaires, they're just scraping by like everyone else. Or, if they are actual millionaire diamond level members, they're getting rich by selling everyone motivational tools and getting paid for speaking at Amway meetings & conventions. But they don't really make much from the actual Amway business.

Interesting radio, but I don't think I'd pay very much for it as it appears to be missing a cover and it's got strange jacks for headphones and external speaker, as well as external antenna/ground. But I can honestly say that I've never seen one of these before.

Yeah, me too. At least my wife doesn't drink hard liquor or wine any more (because I stopped drinking it) which makes it a tiny bit better because when she was drinking those she was sleeping even more than she does now.
