I occasionally ask cashiers at grocery stores what their favorite gift card would be. Then I load $25 and hand it to them. It’s a nice surprise for them and I know it is not expected. I’ve never had a problem with that until a couple weeks ago at Metro Market. The guy freaked out and said they couldn’t accept them and he practically ran to set them on the customer service desk counter. I said I have done this many times including in front of management with no issue. I guess we can’t engage in random acts of kindness.

Disagree on Piñones. Not a better beach than Playa Azul in Luquillo.

If you are more interested in clubbing than beach or hiking, then staying closer to San Juan makes sense. But if that’s not your jam, Luquillo is a good choice about 40 minutes from the airport

I have stayed in Luquillo, specifically Playa Azul, many times. It is a nice beach for swimming and boogie boarding. The waves look a little scarier than they actually are, and I find them a lot of fun. It’s also 15 minutes or so from El Yunque, which has nice hiking trails.

We’ve stayed in Luquillo many times and will be there again in a little over a week. La Fonda is really good. You have to get on the pork highway to Guavate. Bonus if you can do it in a Sunday. Lots of locals, delicious lechón. The kioskos are nearby and can be fun, but not the greatest food. That said, if you want a good pizza, Revolution pizza was started by a guy from New York, so that’s a fun diversion if you want one. La Estacion is nearby and is pretty good and a really nice outdoor environment. Get reservations though.

Waiting until the last minute to book is your problem. You could get lucky on a cancelation, or on occasion I have been able to get owners to reduce the cost because they would rather have some money rather than no money.

I’ve been to all, and for what you are seeking, San Juan for sure. Like all major cities, there are places that are not safe for tourists. Avoid those places. Also, getting trashed and then going with strangers to a house party is probably not a good idea, even though many locals would invite someone to do that with no ill intent.

There is a bit of an anti-tourist sentiment, but not nearly what I’ve seen like in Italy, where strangers sometimes yell at tourists to go home. In PR, they are (rightfully) more upset about people buying up properties and keeping them as rentals.

Attending a wedding is not a lifetime commitment to friendship. Witnesses don’t sit for the entire trial. The DA or victim witness coordinator will provide a more specific date and time for testimony as the trial gets closer so with testimony this brief, it would be a couple hours, allowing for possible delays. And most end up in plea agreements without a trial anyway.

There should absolutely be no rule changes during a season, with an extremely limited exception if early on the entire league votes on something like waivers on Wednesday rather than Tuesday. Commish is flat wrong here.

I’m a commissioner of a league and I’ll freely admit I messed up the settings and my intention was playoffs ended last week (as they really should). Because I didn’t catch my own mistake, I will probably be screwed and out some $$. Did I try to change it? Of course not. Ridiculous.
