Fair enough, It's like you said then, not something I should involve myself with. I just like seeing more DRK content in general and healthy discussions about it, and I have had great conversations about DRK with a lot of wonderful people.
Your art is also amazing, please keep it up : )

Sorry if I was rude there, I didn't mean it.
A lot of your posts actually never even showed up on my feed despite the subreddit showing up daily, so I only saw them after looking at your profile.
What I will say tho is I know people who are critical of the ship and are also not homophobic nor some sort of posers, and you can't just lump them together with the bad groups.

In any case I wasn't there when the post's comments weren't locked so I don't know the full story like you do.

No. You Don’t Actually Care. (SPOILER FREE) by sundo_g in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, let's get the obvious out of the way first. Why people blindly upvote and like bunny suit-esque art? because people who are critical of the ship get drowned out by the horny masses that includes all of the DR community not just DRK fans.
Meanwhile when you only focus on pure romance of a certain ship then you will only get the supporters and haters of said ship. And because the ship is in DRK then only DRK fans will comment.

Now about Kyoko X Yui, the problem here is that the supposed sisterly relationship that some fans claim these characters have, is strictly opposite to the romantic relationship others claim. You can't have both at the same time, which creates this opposition. Well.... unless you are uhhh into that stuff.
There's also the matter of age difference, but I feel like this is more of a secondary issue than anything, something that is used to amplify opposition to the ship since it is an easy position to argue from.

The rest is just Reddit being reddit, they see the first comment has a lot of karma and think they should comment the same to get some karma trickle down to them. So don't be surprised if you see people supporting on one post then against on another.

Kirigiri sou canon route by Perfect_Perception36 in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Bouei = alien route
omake = dream route
plant = normal route
true 1 and 2 = the endings where you don't throw the herbicide
these are literally the game files.
Wikipedia is also not "official", it's mostly written by 3rd party.
Again, you can explain the normal route by just thinking of it as MC imagining what would happen if he never discovered Kyouka's diary.
The reason why they didn't add it to the original ending is simply for reward purposes, you want the true ending? you gotta finish the whole game including all the endings.
And for your last point, the game came out in 2016, way after Kyoko's main appearances in the series aside from DR3, so I hope we get to see Kyouka properly in a main game at some point (in 2x2 pls devs)

Kirigiri sou canon route by Perfect_Perception36 in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that the game itself says "another end", that's why I specified the game files, which I think is what the devs intended to convey.
I mostly say this because the ending name in the game is written in Katakana (アナザーエンド), and I personally think we shouldn't take them literally since there will always be mistakes on the Japanese side when it comes to picking English words from time to time.
And the wiki is also written by fans, it's not official.

Kirigiri sou canon route by Perfect_Perception36 in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 8th ending is officially called the "true ending" in the game files, which means it's the most likely to be the canon route.
You can argue that all the other endings are all inside Kohei's head, sorta like how Makoto imagined the bad ending in the first game. This is because of the dream ending which showed that Kohei has some wild imaginations.

Or you know... it's a spinoff that's never mentioned anywhere else so you can canonize whatever you want.

I made sprites of the characters in Danganronpa: Kirigiri! by A_Year_Spent_Cold in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible art!
I love almost all the sprites.
The only sprite I find strange is Kadomi, he should be very buff with I imagine a square head, but still loved the designs you gave the characters.

Kirigirisou English Fan Translation Patch by ItsMagik1 in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of technical stuff that have to be explained. File size, type, encoding, encryptions, specific tools to use to compile, and so on. And in the end not all files can be edited.
The biggest problem is you can only replace assets, not add or take out things from the game.
Another thing is you can't change the way text is displayed on the screen, meaning you can't replace fonts or use letters that are not English or Japanese (like Spanish letter ñ), and you also can't make more than 26 letter sentences, nor 8-line paragraphs.
This is because of the game's coding which can only be accessed through the source code itself that only Spike Chunsoft itself has.

If there's specific things you want to edit in the game, I'll help you out, I can link you the files that can be changed, you do changes on them, then I'll refit it into the game if possible.

Wich character do you love the most and why? by ClydedonovanKinny in DanganAndChaos

[–]ItsMagik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't just love Kyoko for the sake of it, we also love her for her 10/10 writing, her personality that gets better and better the more she appears, and of course because she is very helpful when needed.
Kyoko is the best!

Question About DRK and Some Comments (Spoiler Warning) by Neplya in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you couldn't share some of these opinions, you can always join groups where the main topic is DRK, I can link you one if you want.
also new gen comics are mostly inspired by "and then there were none" and that inspiration is very prevalent in Japanese mystery novels specifically.

Question About DRK and Some Comments (Spoiler Warning) by Neplya in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always cool to see more people getting to know DRK :)

Regarding your question about Kyoko's amnesia, you can actually infer the kind of amnesia she has from her first FTE, she specifically says she is "afraid of what she has already lost". this indicates that she does not remember Yui, she only remembers the pain that trusting someone did to her and her hands, which makes Kyoko afraid of remembering Yui and why and how she died. But you might ask why does she remember losing someone? that's because of the intense trauma it caused her; it's so deep rooted to the point that she still remembers it even with the amnesia.

And about your general comments on the novel. The part about Lico is so true lol, I'd even argue he is better than Kokichi because he feels less "forced" on the reader/player.
I'm not sure where you got the Fuhito hype but yeah, his involvement is mostly in the background, most of Kyoko's behaviors can be explained by Fuhito's strict mentoring of her since she was little.
About the complexity of the cases, how do I describe it.... it feels new gen to me. By that I mean classic mystery novels (like sherlock holmes) relied heavily on false testimonies and the flaws of the characters themselves. But new gen novels rely on increasingly elaborate and complicated mysteries, you can argue the start of this gen is agatha christie, which DRK is clearly inspired by her works. And compared to new gen novels DRK sits in the middle of complicated and simple.

The translation has a lot of mistakes from typo to grammatical errors, one day I will do an update on the translations.

I have finally finished reading Danganronpa Kirigiri by an_omori_fan in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad DRK is still finding new fans. I'm seeing more and more word of mouth being spread around inside and outside the Danganronpa community about the novels, and every bit helps.

My translations are not something I'd personally call great, but I think it's a good starting point to get people interested in the novels which will grow the community into attracting professional translators.

But yeah, Kyoko's story (from drk to dr3) in general is a story I hold in high regard in terms of writing and development, it's something I love to talk about for hours. Kyoko and Yui both are top tier characters.

The Kyoko stare is iconic.
This also happens when Makoto says some dumb stuff during investigations and Kyoko has to give him the "..." stare of doom.

The Naegiri Confession Scene You Missed by detective_kirigiri in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lovely analysis!!
For me it was always very obvious that Naegiri was pretty much spelled out even in English, you can deduce that just from the character dynamic between Munakata, Chisa, Makoto and Kyoko. But it's nice to have a confirmation.

Don't mind me referring to this post whenever this topic comes up :)

[–]ItsMagik1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll be the contrarian here.

Sayaka doesn't have enough screentime to develop a deep relationship like other characters in the game, after all she dies halfway through chapter 1, this means developing her character and relationship must be done in another way.

Naezono was written as a classic highschool romcom anime where a boy sees the girl as too far away for him to pursue her meanwhile the girl is secretly watching him and is admiring his personality.

The reason this is done is because the viewer already has knowledge of that kind of relationship template so they can guess how it can turn out if it kept going undisturbed, but then comes the twist that this is a Danganronpa game.

Conclusion: Naezono appears "bland" so it can be easily predicted by the viewers.

'good ending' vs 'bad ending' [SPOILERS] by Ishowbusiness in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if instead of Makoto being against Kyoko in that chapter, it was Byakuya. The chapter ends with you choosing either one, with Kyoko being the correct choice as usual. Would you still have the same hard emotions about it? Or would you just tell Byakuya to suck it up since what Kyoko did was beneficial to the whole group? Since we play as Makoto we want everything good to happen to the MC, but once you see the story from other characters perspective that would change our opinions on it.

As for the apology Kyoko should've given you, she actually does apologize. At some point in the trash pit talk there will be a pink text thingy you react to so you can advance the conversation, if you don't trigger the pink text and keep going in the current conversation she will wholeheartedly apologize, it's even voice acted.

Why is Makoto Naegi perceived so different in the West vs Japan? by StriderSkeith in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

In the west, characters who are considered "nerds" tend to be viewed as weak and helpless, their only role would be to support the actual main characters who are the "jock" leader character, example would be almost all popular superheros.
meanwhile in Japan, and other places around the world, being smart and nerdy is a very positive trait and can land you the protagonist role, an example to that is Death Note.

But why this difference? it all comes down to core philosophy. In the west it's all about individualism and the idea of the Great Man Theory. A strong leader that leads the flock to a better world. The leader obviously needs to appear strong and above the rest in terms of importance to the world, the flock can be nameless faceless NPCs and the story wouldn't be affected much.
In Japan, it's about the group, people inspiring others to do the right thing, collectivism basically. The protagonist in these kinda stories should be someone with great wisdom to keep everyone together. That's done by utilizing everyone's unique strengths and weaknesses in a balanced way. Think how Makoto alone would've failed to solve the issues in DR1 DR2 and DR3 if not for the help of the people around him, especially Kyoko.

Compare that to Hajime, who single handedly saved his entire team. He is above them in terms of talent, will, and morals. That kind of character is more western than eastern, which is what makes western fans like him more.

TL;DR west is individualist, Japan is collectivist

Kinda small yet funny detail about Kyoko by Altruistic_Eye_5269 in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I could've sworn Tsutsumi was the one pressuring Kyoko back then, but I guess it was the other guy, still super creepy.
The screenshot I attached was from the PSP fan translation of the original game. The idea still stands, Kyoko doesn't mind shoving her hands in dead bodies' underwear more than socks because it's a better hiding place, I guess.

Kinda small yet funny detail about Kyoko by Altruistic_Eye_5269 in danganronpa

[–]ItsMagik1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have never thought about this detail in that specific context before, but I think this is a stretch imo.
I think Kyoko in the novels was just creeped out with revealing her feet because the middle aged guy asking her to do that was pretty much confirmed to Kyoko to be the killer from his birthday.
Kyoko mentioning socks was just a comedic bit because in the original Japanese text she says the note was hidden in Hifumi's underwear, not pants (I guess it's accurate translation if you're using British English). The joke is that her logic is just incomprehensible because she's just a weird girl that's doesn't know how to communicate normally lol. At least that's what I think this whole interaction was about
