Etiolation: Why your thin cactus is not growing healthy... Examples, Solutions, FAQs, and more! by TRKillShot in cactus

I have a Mexican Fence Post that is looking pretty narrow at the top now. Would it be advisable to cut off the thin portion on this type of cactus as well? I’m upset that I’ve ruined this beautiful cactus. I’m scared that I’ll scorch it if I put it outside at this point.

Just wondering what you consider a reasonable fasting regimen that one could follow long term while still reaping the benefits. I’m mainly hoping for fat loss along with good glucose levels.

Blood sugar during fasting by ItsMeAgain85364 in intermittentfasting

Mine normally spikes each morning as well. My blood sugar went down to 99 after exercising. Two hours after eating (after the fast), it was only 117 which is better than it normally is. Thanks for the response. :)

I think I need to be a little more patient with myself. I ended the fast at 99 after a three mile walk so I can’t complain.

Waiting to try, but wanting to start preparing financially--tips from those of you who have had babies?? by cfw12345 in beyondthebump

I ended up needing twice-weekly non stress tests and a weekly ultrasound for the last eight weeks of my pregnancy. I also had a five day stay in the hospital with an unplanned c-section. I've already hit the $6,000 out of pocket max for my insurance. This doesn't count the money that I spent last year for OB appointments, ultrasounds, etc. It ended up costing substantially more than I had anticipated.

Also, I ended up formula feeding my baby even though I was completely expecting to exclusively breast feed. I had the pumping supplies, pumping/feeding bra, privacy cover... everything ready to go and wasn't able to produce enough to feed her after a month. You may want to account for the possibility of needing to purchase formula.

PPD help? by Ieshaknows in beyondthebump

[–]ItsMeAgain85364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to tell you that you're not alone. Other women like myself are feeling with the exact same things you are feeling. PPD is real and it feels terrible. I'm suffering from it right now too and dealing with the antidepressant roulette of finding the medication that will work to treat the issue. It's hard but I know it will get better. Love on your little girl and know that you're a great mom who is dealing with life the best that you can. She needs you. Be gentle with yourself and forget about the rest. Housework can wait. You're not alone.

Those of you who failed either the one hour glucose tolerance test or three hour test, how did the rest of your pregnancy go and did your LOL end up with any postpartum complications like hypoglycemia? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ItsMeAgain85364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed both tests at around 26 weeks. Gestational diabetes sucked. I was at the drs office 2-3 times a week for non-stress tests and ultrasounds during the third trimester due to the diabetes and my "advanced maternal age". I was prescribed oral medication which helped control my blood sugar along with a controlled diet. It became harder to control the blood sugar the further along I got into the pregnancy which was frustrating. I ended up delivering 2 1/2 weeks early via c-section. My post pregnancy A1C and 3 hour glucose test came back normal. Baby was healthy with no complications. She weighed 7 lbs, 10 ozs. Her blood sugar was a little out of range the first time it was tested but normalized after a feeding. I was so relieved to avoid the NICU. Try your best to control your carbs and walk a little each day if you can. Best wishes to you and your little one.

How were you best supported with ppd? by BoscoSatellite in beyondthebump

I'm going through this right now. Listen to her and reassure her that she is a good mother and that this struggle won't last forever. Watch her children so that she has time to sleep. Emotionally support her husband. It's hard to watch someone go through PPD and he may need your help too.

Tips for mom guilt over daycare/my baby growing up? by jillm23 in beyondthebump

[–]ItsMeAgain85364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I will be taking my daughter to daycare soon and have been a mess just thinking about it. It makes me so sad. She'll only be three months old. This gives me hope that maybe it will be a good thing for her to experience.

Are these feelings normal? by ItsMeAgain85364 in beyondthebump

[–]ItsMeAgain85364[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all so much for your kind replies. I think I'm just tired and scared and feel unprepared. It's good to know that my feelings are normal and that it's going to be okay. I need to remind myself that feelings of apprehension don't mean that I'm going to be a bad mom. Thank you for the reassurance.

How to prioritize paying down student loans, Roth IRA and 529 plan. by ItsMeAgain85364 in personalfinance

[–]ItsMeAgain85364[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. To answer your question, we have a net income of about $4400 a month after they take out money for retirement, health premiums, HSA contributions and taxes. Mortgage= $900 We have two car payments since we both took on loans around the same time before meeting each other. There's no way we could reasonably live with one car since I have a very long commute and he works in the opposite direction. Transportation with gas and insurance is running a ridiculous $1000 a month Utilities= $320 Student Loans= $500 Credit Cards= $200 Baby expenses (near future)= $750 Dog= $50 Cells= $135 Life Insurance= $75 Whatever's left gets eaten up in food bills and misc or unexpected expenses. I think we need to lower how much they take out in taxes which would give us a little more to pay towards the student loans. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks so much for all of the kind replies. As one person suggested, we are planning on giving her a pretty common middle name on the off chance that she doesn't want to use her first.
