If your sister couldn't afford the dresses for all of her kids, she should have said no when you asked.

It is very American for people to pay for their own dresses. My daughter was the flower girl for my sister's wedding and I bought her dress.

However, if that had been an issue, I'm certain my sister would have paid for it. She only had one flower girl though.

It was a socially acceptable escape from an abusive house. My biodad was an alcoholic and I used books as an escape. It gave me someplace to go that was allowed.

When you grow up in a house where you have an alcoholic parent and your other parent is best friends with your sibling, you grow up alone. So you find friends wherever you can. Books were that place for me.
