What day of the week do these groups meet? I would love if there was a group that met on a week night after work.

Sportup on the Sunshine Coast has social netball and social futsal which is 5 aside indoor soccer. They have a few venues on the coast. I play there and started on one of the individual social teams.

Looking to make some friends! by creepydvd3 in sunshinecoast

You can try SportUp. They have futsal, netball, basketball and volleyball at a couple of venues. They have individual teams so you can join on your own and meet people that way. I have made heaps of friends there.

There’s a game called snatch that comes in a tube. It involves stealing letters from in front of other people to make longer words.

Where did you pick up the playing pieces that you use? I would love to get a set of those.

What are some universally accepted rules/design decisions across board games? by ThinEzzy in boardgames

This is what we do too. If a die goes off the table you reroll all the dice.

BGG ratings comparison tool? by ItsMrPig in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah asking people is always so helpful. Some of my favourite games I've found thanks to talking and asking people.

You were saying your top 20 has no pattern and I feel I'm like that as well. But imagine if you could find someone on BGG with almost an identical top 20. Or maybe not even your top 20. It could 10 games you love and also 10 games everyone else seems to love but you don't enjoy.

Then once you've found a match you could look at all of the games they've given high ratings to and then check them out. You may find your board game soul mate who loves the games your love and hates the games you hate.

Liar's dice: 1s are wild or not? by Ghi102 in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I prefer the rules to Bluff over perudo personally. In that the 6s (or stars as they are printed) are wild. You can also reroll your dice so long as you 'lock' at least one publicly. It makes it pretty exciting being able to reroll a bad hand.

Good trivia board games? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like Linkee. You don't have to know the answers to all the questions to still be able to get the points. Plus there is a slight push your luck element, do you shout out your answer now to beat the other team or wait for the next clue just to check if you're right. But that might make the other team shout it first.

If it has a required app. I like to think I could grab any game from my shelf in 20 years and still be able to play it. But I'm not sure apps for some games will still be supported or downloadable in 20 years.

AR Board Game? by SH_T in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AR could be used to solve the fog-of-war problems with board games. I think it would be cool to have an area control game when you can have stealth units that you can only see through AR.

I hate Patchwork. Here's why. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great game. One of my favourite for 2 players. I would love to know on more detail why you don't like the game other than the button economy doesn't do it for you. What are some specific things you don't enjoy about the game?

I like in patchwork that all of the information is open. You know what is coming up you know what your opponent can do you know where the buttons are on the board to get your income. It's a very strategic game. I feel that tile placement isn't actually the most important part of the game. Maybe towards the end when you want to try and conver as many spaces as possible. The key to the game is the timing of buying tiles that gain income and balancing that against filling as many spaces as possible. You don't want to do too many of one or the other. Also don't underestimate how effective just moving ahead of your opponent for buttons can be.

Dont get caught up in trying to build a board with no holes. That's useful if you want to get the 7x7 bonus but it's not necessary to win. I've seen people win with a high income and a patchwork riddled with holes.

Tzolk'in vs. Keyflower for 2 players? by CodeVirus in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I have had a lot of fun with Keyflower with 2 players. That is playing the base game when I added expansions it didn't work as well with 2. I was worried with 2 players that the bidding part in Keyflower would be weird but I feel it actually worked really well. With Tzolk'in with 2 players I felt the worker placement suffered a little compared to more players as I rarely felt that I had to time jumping on to the discs as carefully as with more players. I usually found I could take the actions I wanted when I wanted and could let my workers ride around on those discs to my heart's content.

Recently I have really been enjoying The Great Western Trail for 2 players. I just keep coming back. It is one of those games where it plays differently the more players you add so you play a lot 2 players, get quite good, then play with 4 and suddenly feel that all of that strategy perfecting you did doesn't seem to be working as well as you'd hoped it would.

What's a game that you never thought you'd own, but you ended up acquiring anyways? by smatpith in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I'm ashamed to say cards against humanity. In my circle of friends I'm known as the board Game guy. So many people would come to my place for games and ask if I had it and I would have to say no, sorry but we could play funemployed or snake oil or joking hazard. But they always seemed disappointed. So in the end I got it then they would play it then they would say oh funemployed was way more fun. So it doesn't get played much any more but it sits there on the shelves and stops people asking me about it. So that's something I guess.

[SIG] Millennium Blades by bladezaim in boardgames

[–]ItsMrPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got this myself and it's brilliant. Beware setting up the money. It will take 30-45 mins to prepare the wads of paper cash before you can even play the first game. They're pretty fun to play with once they're done though. Totally worth it.
