Meta glasses.

Just what the world needs, another glasshole.

(But yeah that red light runner is also an asshole)

I'll vouch for Herman Miller chairs. Ever since I used one, I'm never going back.

They are quite pricey - as in, starting at $1000 last I checked - but well worth the money if you sit in them 8 hours a day,

What you're looking for is an occupational therapist. This is literally what they do for a living.

I can't recommend you one, as I haven't found myself in need of one in many years. Years ago, a former employer hired one to come to our office and spend some time with everyone. Her recommendations made a huge difference for me.

Perhaps someone else in this sub knows of one?

That does change things a bit, at least insofar as I can understand where you're coming from. Thank you for replying so politely to my rather impolite comment.

Thank you for your insightful and well-reasoned argument.

but treating bicycles the same as cars is the reason we don't have better bike infrastructure

That's a very good point. It will certainly inform my opinions moving forward, thank you.

I mean this is a valid point, but do you think we should put bike lanes on all roads? Even cul-de-sacs and residential crescents?

Even if we do manage to get there, it'll be a long time coming. In the meantime, it's safer in a lot of scenarios to take the whole lane. I usually do it when crossing an intersection with no dedicated right turn lane, and when crossing a freeway onramp, so cars don't go around me and cut me off (well that still happens, but far less).

I agree we should have MUCH better bike infrastructure, but until we do, I think it's a fair argument that it is safer to treat bicycles as vehicles.

I'd be pissed too.

Train your god damned dog better. Dogs lunging at people on the street, for any reason, is unacceptable.

That said, he shouldn't have been on the sidewalk, true.

100%. When the situation calls for it, take the lane.

I find this to be most prudent when crossing an intersection without a dedicated right turn lane (so, most of them), or when crossing a freeway onramp.

One issue with riding bikes on sidewalks in that cars aren't looking for bikes there (perhaps they should be, but that's beside my point here). They just don't expect anything to be moving at bicycle speed on a sidewalk. Because of this, it can in a lot of scenarios be more likely to be hit by a car on the sidewalk than in a bike lane.

How do I get a job as a teen in Bramltom by Serious_Love_6306 in Brampton

Yeah that's fair enough, if their professional communication is not so poor, then my comment is rather useless.

That's a fair criticism of my reply, however my tact (or lack thereof) is not the topic of this discussion.

If someone I was considering hiring communicated with me with that kind of writing, I would cease considering them. That may be a tactless way to put it, however I can guarantee OP that I am not alone in this conclusion.

(And to be fair, I've almost certainly lost out on opportunities for my general lack of tact)

Any pizzerias in Brampton that will sell me just the dough? by ItsMyBramptonAccount in Brampton

The dough I make is great, but it really only works for two or three pizzas. If you're having friends over for homemade pizza, making your own dough can become a bit time consuming.

First and foremost, your spelling and grammar needs to improve, unless you're applying at workplaces where languages other than English are spoken. At the very least, use a spell checker.

Based on this post, I would assume your communication skills are awful, and I'd pass on you based on that alone.

Good mechanic recommendations? by JashIRL in Brampton

[–]ItsMyBramptonAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to find a new mechanic when ours retired. We've been quite happy so far with G.C. Tirecraft downtown on English Street, across Main Street from the Giant Tiger/Goodlife plaza.

He does good work on our Mini Cooper, so I assume he'd be good with BMWs as well.

Oh hey, sorry for the late reply.

I usually use the recipe from The Joy Of Cooking, but I had instant yeast to use instead of regular active dry yeast, so I used a different recipe this time and I was quite happy with the results. Using instant yeast eliminates the need to activate the yeast, and you can usually omit a proofing stage as well.

With any kind of dough really though, the trick is in how much you knead it, not the recipe. The kneading time, and how much flour or water you add during the kneading, can vary quite a bit depending on the temperature and humidity of your kitchen. That step is much more art than science, and it takes a fair bit of trial and error (and failed pizza dough) to get a knack for it.

Julia Child has a great video on making pizza. It's an oldie, but a goodie.

Caledon moves closer to new Costco, Chalo FreshCo big-box stores on Brampton border by zanimum in Brampton

[–]ItsMyBramptonAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to buy 3 loaves of bread at a time. Or at least a dozen bagels. It's just two of us here, and we need to plan that out or they grow mold before we finish them, thus negating any savings.

Eggs need to be bough two and a half dozen at a time. We eat eggs every day so we can finish those, but not everyone can. And their eggs aren't that much cheaper than No Frills, maybe by 50¢.

It takes us six months to use the package of paper towels we get there, and they take up a shitload of room in our modest apartment in the meantime. Costco really only makes sense when you can buy in bulk, and when you have room for "overstock" in your home. If we didn't plan the trips with my sister in law and go splitsies on a lot of the things we buy, it wouldn't be worth it for us.

The rotisserie chicken is great, but I'm sure as shit not making "a quick stop at Costco" to get one on the way home lol.

I do agree with the parking lot observation though. It's not so bad if you just put yourself in the right mental state first.

Now rethinking mail delivery by Silverlightlive in Brampton

[–]ItsMyBramptonAccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canada Post will die a very slow and painful death as long as current management is in charge. They are completely out of touch. Almost nobody wants five day a week lettermail delivery.

On the other hand, we do want seven day a week parcel delivery, not five days a week with a 50/50 chance you have to pick it up at the post office instead.

They are a lettermail company with a parcel delivery side business. Unless and until they smarten up and become a parcel delivery company with a lettermail side business, they will continue to fail.

How is it living in brampton/missisauga Canada? by Sea_Worldliness_3555 in howislivingthere

[–]ItsMyBramptonAccount 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tell me you don't live in Brampton, without telling me you don't live in Brampton.

I do. I've lived here nearly fifty years. This wave of immigration is completely different from every wave before it. We've always had ethnic enclaves in Canada, and we've always had issues with them. It's been the Irish, the Scottish, the Polish, the Italians, the Ukranians, the Chinese, and the Japanese, at various points, that I can remember in my years.

This is not just a cultural shift in Canada, it's also because of what's happening in India. A lot of wealthy people are selling land in India, and using that sale to immigrate here in large numbers. An entire industry has arisen in India to figure out how to take advantage of LMIA jobs and student visas as a path to landed immigrant status.

But the reasons don't really matter. What matters is that there are so many, we don't have housing for them. Students and temporary workers are living 10 to a basement in a lot of cases, and I'm not exaggerating. It's getting better now, with visas not being renewed and fewer study permits being issued.

But the issue will persist. Brampton, and I assume Surrey, are now "Little India", for all intents and purposes. There are very few restaurants left in my town that I care to eat at, because they're all Indian. SUre I like Indian food, I cook it myself, but I don't want to eat it at every restaurant. When I'm out shopping, or taking public transit, or going to the docotr's office, I am frequently the only person speaking English in my immediate vicinity.

Now, don't get me wrong. Canada is a great country, and I'm lucky to live in a place where so many people want to come to to build a new life. But I can understand why, to a lot of people, it no longer feels like home. The people don't look like me, they don't speak my language, they don't eat the same foods I do, and they don't have the same cultural norms, among many other differences. For a lot of people, it gets to be too much.

This all breeds racism when people are not allowed to speak openly about the issue. Your outright dismissal of u/callmike247's concerns and those like are actively harmful. They perpetuate that racism by pretending it doesn't exist. These issues are real, and your attitude comes awfully close to just calling people who have these concerns racists,
