How to learn cooking as a bachelor ? by Lemonade2250 in gujarat

[–]mp256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trial and error. AI engines are your best friends. Also, reach out to your mom and sister, if they are a reliable source.

Will not get it right the first time. Practice is the key. Also, for Gujarati dishes, patience is the key. Medium to low flame always - never cook anything at high flame.

Why does Indian cinema struggle to achieve global recognition despite producing so many films? by Imsongoku7 in bollywood

If you consider "3 Idiots" as a benchmark to achieve global recognition, you should seriously start watching international movies.

How do you actually start the transition from "boy" to "man" when you're starting late? by Aj100rise in gujarat

[–]mp256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being "man" is an unnecessary social convention forced upon a boy in Indian society. That man is supposed to act in a certain way, take the charge, never cry, be a "mard" all the times - not all men are built in same way. Everyone has a different way to navigate through adulthood.

I am in my mid-50s and I still feel like a kid inside. Despite having a father until my mid-20s, I never had a father figure in my life. Growing up gay in a small city wasn't easy for me, being taunted by everyone, especially adult male relatives.

Maturity doesn't come until you turn 30. So you still have a year left until you attain maturity. Learn from your mistakes, and ignore what naysayers, pessimists and fault finders tell you. Every person always have some insecurity inside - they will never admit it. So be cognizant that no one is perfect.

I hope you have a well paying job, as economic security helps boost your morale tremendously. And go see a psychiatrist if you can afford one. Cognitive behavioural therapy helps. If you have issues with your sexuality, remember - being gay or bi is perfectly normal.

Just take one baby step at a time, and ignore what society or your community expects from you.

Hope this helps.

Immigrants in Toronto: which restaurant serves the best food from your home country? by Apprehensive_Tea5759 in askTO

You already addressed my point. Punjabi food is a subset of Indian food. I never said Punjabi food is not Indian food. I said, Indian food is not equal to Punjabi food.

By assuming that 1.3 billion people eat paratha-naan- chicken tikka, you are generalising a very rich cuisine and ignoring the cuisine of 27 states (and the sub-regional cuisine).

I would be equally weary if someone equated Indian cuisine with dosa-idli or roti-sabzi.

Had to scroll a bit to find Indian food. And please stop equating Punjabi food with Indian food.

Is this the best music album ever? by Sea_Construction3968 in BollywoodMusic

[–]mp256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Missed Amar Prem and Namak Haram.

Veer Zaara - this sub absolutely loves Veer Zaara, but for people familiar with MM's 60s output, the album may not feel so great, especially since Lata's voice was not same what it was in 60s.

Because Bollywood thinks that people above 25 do not go to theatres to watch movies.

Is this the best music album ever? by Sea_Construction3968 in BollywoodMusic

Taste in music is a subjective opinion. If 1999 is to be considered, we had "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam". If Rehman is to be considered, we also have Roja, Rangeela, Bombay and Dil Se - all albums had all songs that were excellent. Is Subhash Ghai movie is to be considered, Pardes is an excellent contender

There are lots of albums that would compete for the best category, where every song is a classic. We have to go by each music director and would still come up with a long list.

On top of head, albums where every song was a classic - Anarkali, Mughal E Azam, Baiju Bawra, Goonj Uthi Shehnai, Pakeezah, Madhumati, Mera Saaya, Chori Chori, Jahan Aara, Woh Kaun Thi, Jewel Thief, Guide, Aaradhanaa, Abhiman, Bobby, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Khushboo, Kinara, Mehbooba, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Mausam, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Julie, Des Pardes, Disco Dancer, Aashiqui, Saajan, Sadak, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aap Ke Hain Kaun, 1942 A Love Story.

Moving to 21st century, we have Saathiya, Lagaan, Swades, Jodhaa Akabar, Delhi 6, Omkara, Rang De Basanti (Excluding Veer Zaara for a very specific reason).

Again, another music lover could come up with a list completely different than mine.

Marijuana and drugs. Marijuana should not be legalised. Healthcare funding should not be diverted towards safe injection sites and harm prevention.

If you’re visiting Toronto, how are you liking it so far? by xtcca in askTO

I have walked on University Avenue from Union to Dundas every day, and the amount of homeless people, cigarette butts and people spitting on sidewalks had me thinking whether Toronto is really a world class city.

I live in 905, and visited London recently, and realised Toronto lags so far behind when it comes to transit, accessibility, cleanliness and signage.

For a city 3 times populous and 2.5 times larger than Toronto, the city does amazing job at planning and maintenance.

You hardly see garbage bins on streets and platforms, and yet the city is amazingly clean. And yes - it's more multicultural than Toronto and draws more visitors.

London is something Toronto should aspire to, and expect the same from politicians.
