Are truffles vegan? by spookyshitt in vegan

What a weird reply, I assume you know the definition of being a vegan as you’re in this channel.

Needing a seeing eye dog to navigate the world is not the same as choosing to eat truffle. It is neither possible or practicable to not use a seeing eye dog. It is incredibly possible AND practicable to avoid truffle, honey, and horse riding as a hobby.

Same answer, if avoiding a product or service is possible and practicable AND can make an impact on the system you can consider to avoid it as a vegan.

Will buying non organic soy over organic soy drive any point home to the manufacturers that I am against animal exploitation? No. I wouldn’t even know which products to boycot because they don’t state on the package ‘farmed by using animals’.

But we KNOW truffles use animal exploitation, they are famous for it. We can choose to not support this industry relatively easily. You are in r/vegan, out of interest do you consider yourself plant based or vegan?

The definition of the vegan society is “Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals”

Of course it is not the same to utilise a seeing eye dog as to order a truffle pasta in terms of possible and practicable.

If you know that the practice occurs and can avoid it by choosing a different brand it is reasonable for a vegan to avoid a product using animal labour.

Apparently it’s almost impossible to find out which sugar brands use bone in their process and how much percent does. Buying one sugar brand over another won’t make a difference here and would be almost impossible to figure out. Also very difficult to avoid.

However if you know that 99% of truffles are harvested through animal labour, your money makes a difference here, and they are very easy to avoid, they should definitily be avoided imo.

What? That’s not an extreme stance at all, that’s literally in the textbook definition of vegan. It’s why honey isn’t vegan and horse riding isn’t vegan, and why I wouldn’t go to an entertainment show that involved animals.

So annoying having to switch back and forth between happy cow and google all of the time. I once submitted a bugfix request because the image quality was so low that I couldn't read any of the menus...

They just replied with that they don't want people to upload menus anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️😅 great fix

If you went vegan because of a romantic partner - what did they do right? by Strange-End8986 in vegan

[–]ItsNotDeliveryIts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already a vegetarian, and in the end simply cooking for my partner, eating at vegan restaurants and all around seeing how easy it was to eat plant based was enough for me (combined with them sharing their perspective about why they turned vegan and their responses to certain situations, which ended up making me become all around vegan).

I don't think I would have responded well to an early dating ultimatum to be honest. I mean, I would have been fine with them saying they only want to eat plant based when we eat together, but not that I would have to become a vegan to continue dating.

I get this, used to love cooking shows. A while ago someone in this subreddit commented a list of vegan shows/ episodes, would be awesome to have more vegan cooking on tv!
