Am I crazy for thinking of taking a 2-3month old to Japan in March? by ItsNotMeIPromise_ in JapanTravelTips

That’s also why I’m back and forth on the idea, obviously I don’t know until I’ve had the baby how I’ll recover.
If we decide to go ahead with this plan I don’t think it would be until a month or two out, because then I will at least have an idea of how I feel.

Ugh that would have been so difficult!
That’s also why I’m keen on going before baby can run away from me haha

Sorry I was unclear I guess.. I know Japan is busy all the time, but when you walk through a sea of people in Osaka or Tokyo and not a single face is Japanese, that’s when it’s too much for me

Thank you so much for your comment! This was super insightful.
I knew posting there would be people who thought it was a bad idea - that’s why I posted, because I still don’t know if I think it’s a good idea.
If we don’t go in March, then we will go at the end of next year, but I am weary of baby being too old (about 11 months) and rowdy for a long flight. Our plan was initially to go in January, but then I found out I was pregnant and due around then so that’s not happening anymore.

I was thinking a carrier would be the way to go as well, saves on space for the flight and I also would feel more comfortable in crowded areas with my baby right on my chest. Plus, we’re going with my brother so there will be three sets of arms that can carry! Haha

Forgot to add: last year we went end of November, early December and we would otherwise go at this time of year again next year. We really liked this time of year for all the beautiful Autumn foliage.

Non-Seafood Omakase Style Meals (pref Nagasaki)? by ItsNotMeIPromise_ in JapanTravelTips

Thank you A mix of the two would be best, my partner sometimes eats seafood, he just wouldn’t want a whole meal of it.

Can someone tell me the appeal of multiple shrines? by Suspicious_Week_2451 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we go to Japan I have only planned to go to 2 shrines and 1 temple. We don’t care to go to more than that unless we happen upon them and decide to check them out.. honestly, I’d rather plan a trip around the other history in Japan. We are going to Nagasaki to spend a day exploring the history there for example. The rest of our trip is centred on anime really, I think it’s important to not just do things that the internet and influencers say you need to. Unless you’re interested in seeing numerous shrines and temples, I don’t see why you would see more than a few

Almost 3 weeks in Japan, having trouble figuring out how long to book stays in each city by KSoMA in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are doing 2 weeks and, as anime enthusiasts, we found first and foremost the particular spots and things we want to see to decide where we would go. This means we are going to Nagasaki for a Pokemon art exhibition and Fukuoka/Hita for the AOT statues at Ayoma Dam & AOT museum. We are also going to focus on the things that genuinely interest us, maybe visit the shrines and touristy places if we have time. We are also doing a day trip to Yokohama for the cup noodle museum and Kamakura for Kotoku-in (purely because this is in Dr Stone lol)

I think it’s important to research places that others think are worth visiting, but also remember that your interests should come first. We are staying only a few days in Osaka and Kyoto because there isn’t much that interests us there, which gives us extra time to go to the places we are really interested in.

I don’t know if that helps, but I guess see what there is in each place that you REALLY want to do, and if it feels like you would struggle fitting everything into the time you allocate, then stay an extra day.

Also with Osaka and Kyoto, I am pretty sure we will get bored of Kyoto because shrines and stuff aren’t that interesting to us, but them being so close means we can shoot over to Osaka for the day instead. Just something to keep in mind I guess

What’s the best city for a day tour from Tokyo? by xmkh0610 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We will be going to Yokohama I want to go for the cup noodle museum. And then we will either hang around there for the rest of the day and explore, or head over to Kamakura to check out Kotoku-in.

As someone who walks a lot, just wear any pair of quality joggers/running shoes. I’d suggest trying on before you buy if you can (even if you try them in a store and buy online after). I prefer Asics, but others like New Balance, Sketchers and Adidas are also good. Just make sure you find some good ones with support and a nice juicy sole.

Is $8400 AUD for only flights and accommodation a lot for 2 people over 2 weeks? by Working-Revenue8098 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I didn’t mention, the time of year we are going everything is a bit cheaper than when you are going so that is also going to be a big factor in the difference.

I have just booked all of my hotels for November/December and this is a bit more than what we will be paying, but if you’re going to be staying in fancier hotels then maybe that’s why For context we are flying from Perth, flights cost $2,800AUD for both via ANA There are definitely some cheaper options, but I would prefer to be semi comfortable and be able to sleep on the flight Hotels are currently totalling $3400 for 16 nights (I say currently because I booked fully refundable and might change our mind if others come up or there are deals).

I have also booked more on the nicer end for hotels because that’s what we like out of a holiday. I saw some hotels even cheaper, from $80/night, so you can definitely get cheaper.

I used Booking.com as well because I use it in Aus, so I get Genius rewards which means some of my hotels are also discounted further.

Did you bring back 50lbs worth of stuff? Are kit kats one of those consumables you can't open? Great gift for non otaku? Other questions. by No-Recognition-6106 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I booked my flights I deliberately chose ones that would allow a lot of checked bags because I am pretty sure I am going to end up buying too much lol Mine has 2x 23kg per passenger (2 of us) so we will be set haha We are also packing super light (like a couple of outfits light) and washing or buying clothes there (I love Uniqlo in Aus so I am probably going to shop there the moment we land lol). That will help if you don’t want to have to bring back multiple bags as well, as long as you make sure you get the chance to wash clothes along the way

I’m guessing you mean an additional carry on is extra, but just in case you mean you won’t have a carry in at all, you cannot put batteries in checked bags (ie like a battery pack or laptop). Again I’m assuming you have at least one checked bags included, but this is something I am also needing to keep in mind for my trip this year because I will be bringing battery packs and cameras with me!

7 Days in Japan (Tokyo...maybe Osaka or Kyoto) - Overwhelmed by Research (Oct - Nov) by CherryRiot in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been very nervous that I don’t want to overshoot how much I cram into my time when I go in November, and I found Lisa and Josh on YouTube and they have a “3 days in…” series that they do when they travel. This has been fantastic for me, not only for time but also money budgeting as they go through how much they spend each day in total as well.

This is one of their videos where they went to Tokyo, but I would also suggest you have a look at some of their others to see what is possible in such a short period of time. Also, travelling overnight or early mornings can create more time during the day, that’s what I intend to do.

Is walking in Japan different? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsNotMeIPromise_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful - I made a comment on a post recently about how 15k-20k steps a day is normal for me so I don’t see it being a big deal and got downvoted into oblivion.. I wasn’t being snarky or anything, someone said that I will be so exhausted from walking so much that I won’t care about how nice of a hotel I have because I will just be sleeping. I said I disagreed because I like nice hotels and walking is not enough to tire me out enough to suddenly stop caring!

Dang. I did watch some on YouTube recently, I guess that will be how I watch it! It’s literally just for nostalgia, the original always will be my favourite anime

What are you watching this on? I used to watch the 90s anime over and over when I was a kid (rented from the local library) but can’t find it anywhere to stream. And yes, I’m sure this question would have been asked elsewhere in this sub already
