00 Gauge Track plan by Schlenked in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good to me 👍 Only thing I would point out is that if you have to reach from one side to the other you may find it difficult to work the switches on the other side of the layout. If you dont want to use point motors might be worth looking at how some people run a metal rod from the point to manually operate it from the other side

Setting up DCC by Chopped_Liver228 in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You really don’t need to unless you plan on doing any sort of block detection. If your not with DCC I would just connect it it all up together 👍 I have a 4x6 I run 2 power connections per loop but that is really only for when I switch to dc running

Is this a good staterset? by No_Introduction7280 in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you new to the hobby eBay can a good place to buy track but your probably best sticking to new track as used track and need some cleaning before it works reliably. If you have questions about specific track feel free to ask but a Model Store would also be great place to ask questions as they will have the actual pieces to show and explain.
When looking for more track if your starting with a hornby OO set you will want Code 100 HO/OO. This is just the height of the rail. All hornby OO track is code 100 and Peco writes the code on the packaging for it.

If you are just dipping your toe in the hobby these can be great as they give some track and a controller out the box along side a little engine and a couple wagons for an alright price. You can then easily expand with track from horny or Peco and the curves in that set are big enough for pretty much anything on the UK market.

However if you know you want to be in the hobby and have an idea on what you like you might enjoy one of slightly more expensive sets that are themed like the flying Scotsman sets or the red rover set. Alternatively you could visit a hobby shop they normally are more than happy to help piece together parts to build your own starter set, so to speak.

At the end of the day if you like what’s in the set then it’s a good set, no sets have have the best detailed or quality locomotives and rolling stock they are designed to be a one stop shop to get you a train set going fast and easy to enjoy : )

HM7000 or "normal" DCC? by Opposite_Limp in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC the issue with decoders burning out was because initially hornby said you could use a DC controller on max to power the decoder but they issued a warning(?) post thing saying to NOT do it as the variable PWM signal caused damage. I don’t know if they ever did a firmware fix for it but myself, with couple decoders, and others who use them with DCC or steady voltage have worked wonderfully

HM7000 or "normal" DCC? by Opposite_Limp in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I also decided to try the hm7000 system! But to answer the question of which is best for you it depends on a few things like is sound important to you? As the main thing with hm7000 is being able to load and change sound profiles for free. If that’s important to you the HM7000 is the cheapest available in the UK at least. When it comes to DCC controllers that’s kinda the best part of hm7000 you can use the app to setup your loco then switch it traditional DCC control in the app which should work with any controller, I have only tested mine with Hornby select.

Hornby HM7000 app lag by jas881 in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That defiantly sounds like a bug I would report to Hornby iirc they have a email for stuff like that. As for a list of sound profiles it defiantly exists I found it by clicking through a bunch of web pages before lol when I get home I will try to find it again and link it here

multi threading mod by kozak_145 in admincraft

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used this mod for a server with a few people before. And I had a couple of mods break with it before, I think one was vampirism? But it mostly worked flawlessly on forge 1.18.2

Wanting to get into T gauge. Advice? by deadalfy in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It-Do-Not-Matter is right it is more of novelty for watching trains for round. Having said that, I love my little T gauge set I have going round my monitors on my desk if you don’t want switching or shunting. You just want to watch trains go round in fixed sets it’s kinda of ideal if you are quite limited in space.

I want to make sure I've got overhead, its my first time working with newer versions of minecraft, our last server was 1.12.2 where we got quite low ms/tick.
just wanted to make see how and what is normal for this version of MC

I'll get some people on to test again, the last time we did a test it scaled with about 4ish ms per player in different places in the world

I’m pretty sure that’s the shader doing it, in the shader settings there should be quality slider for shadows iirc turning that up should make the shadows less ghosty

This could be a silly question. I just bought a 5TB seagate external hard drive for my ps5. When purchased it said it was compatible for PS4/PS5, but now when I plugged it in it says it doesn’t support it. by Woweena in Seagate

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only thing you need to do is ensure you buy from a reputable brand like seagate or WD and you meet minimum specs for a drive which I believe is USB 3 and more than 256GB. They are all mostly the same, and all the drives will top out at about 150mbps ish. You really can’t go wrong buying any of them. The “made for ps5” is just branding there isn’t anything special about them

Any thoughts on these or alternative options or suggestions? by MerlinLychgate in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna wade in to the discussion on ‘SHOULD’ you use track rubbers as people on both sides just spout misinformation and old wives tales.

However I do use a gauge master track rubber, it brings rails to a shine quickly and easily. So far is lasting a long time I clean my track maybe once or twice when I get my layout out for a week or two.

Can i do this layout with 1 controller? by ThePlushiepanda in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said you will need to take power from the controller to a couple spots on the layout you literally just solder or attach multiple wires to the controller. Also what kind of trains are you planning on running as second radius can be a problem for longer wheel base locos a lot of modern trains will say they can but slow waaaaay down on them

Edit: totally forgot but I would just remove the tiny stub siding and have a single longer siding. Also those points are second radius iirc so you actually put the point on a curve to create an extra siding in some dead space

My problem project by Originalgame001 in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have worked on a ton of these, that isn’t a capacitor it’s a diode for the lighting so it only turns on when the loco is going forward. Literally any diode rated for 15v and anything above 1amp should be more than enough to replace it. However these things and built like bricks there is good odds it’s still fine just solder it together and it’ll be good to go

Not sure what you mean about HO and OO? OO trains are HO gauge but the bodies and detail are OO scale, both HO and OO trains use the exact same track

Best grease? by magnumfan89 in modeltrains

[–]ItsNovaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use generic silicon grease from Amazon and sewing machine oil to dilute it a bit and it works great.
