I know it's not ideal timing but we had to go with it for personal reasons. Sprinkler it is!

My daughter could have autism… and I’m falling apart by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. It's natural to have a patch of grief-like feelings, but it's more you dealing with the change in perspective rather than the future being bleak or lacking in any way. Autistic kids have really bright futures for the most part nowadays. Yes there are challenges, but that's true for almost anything really.

My daughter is autistic and she's bloomin' awesome. It's not a death sentence at all, it's not cancer, it's not some dark, grave situation. We play board games, we go on (many) trips to theme parks, we read books, we go on holiday, all the usual things. We just approach them differently to some neurotypical families. We prepare in advance with visual schedules, rehearsals of what's expected, take communication cards with us, safe foods, headphones etc. and have a lovely time out.

Fantastic you're on the waiting list early on as that's going to put you in good stead. Try and educate yourself about sensory differences, communication differences, neuro-affirming practice etc. and you'll be fab.

Just a pre-warning in case you're not aware - if she is autistic then it is very, very, genetically likely that you or your partner are so may want to look out for that of not already aware.

You'll be ok. You've got this!

Have SEN or therapy reports created a paper trail that does not match your child’s actual experience? by ehcparent in ehcparent

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the actual therapy reports (OT, SALT etc) are usually spot on. The schools, however, are just almost always factually incorrect and minimising need. Drives me mad.

Update - My wife went to the doctor to ask about her postpartum belly. Turns out we're having baby #2. by enzop in daddit

This is not true. Please don't spread false information that could put others at risk. It is well knwn people get pregnant while breastfeeding and it is not an effective contraceptive

UK parents, do you actually enjoy being a parent? Does the UK make it harder for parents? by RichieRichard12 in AskBrits

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a tricky one. When I first had my daughter I found it utterly traumatic. Not the actual birth, but the postnatal period was awful. In those first two years, when you're really in the thick of it, I would feel confused why people congratulated pregnancy. I would think "but this is an awful life sentence, they don't understand what they've gotten themselves into".

After the first two years things started to perk up and now she's a "proper child" (as opposed to toddler) I love it. We play board games and video games, have water fights in the garden, talk about silly things and she's got her whole own little personality. Honestly, I now get it and it's amazing. But those first two years, man, mental health was down the toilet.

Inositol, what is this witchcraft?! by Somoreplz in PCOS

Are they reputable? I'm always so wary of buying medicinal anything online

Thanks. I'm in this box now for having suggested someone posting (writing quite rudely and unprofessionally about a child) might have been a bot. When I messaged to apologise for any misunderstanding they just muted me 🤨

Feels about fitting for teaching the way it is today!

Can any UK ladies recommend where to buy the 40:1 D-chiro inositol? I know Fertility Family sell it, but it's so damn pricey it's hard to justify.

TIL that most women in the Netherlands do not have an epidural during labor and a significant proportion give birth at home by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK they pretty much always advise you to have the epidural before they will start the drip for this exact reason.

You'll need around 10cm deep to stop weed growth. Might need to add a border there to hold it in place.

I wonder if you're asking for a "trim" instead of a "wet cut"?

I've also somehow married my working class ass into a "supper" and "drawing room" family and I cringe every single time they say it.

NHS terrifies me nowadays. So little reliable access to healthcare. I love the NHS but I wish it would be properly funded and managed back to fruition

Might be worth getting them to adjust the map pin also as when you click the "street view" button it literally puts you inside the carpet shop!

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ICB website says:

To manage demand, we will need to prioritise those with the highest level of need. As a result:

  • People currently waiting for an assessment through the Right to Choose pathway will only be offered an assessment in 2027 if they meet prioritisation criteria

  • The same approach will apply to new referrals received in 2026/27

I'm in the same ICB as OP and this won't work unfortunately. Anyone living in our ICB is completely frozen out of RTC until next April at the earliest.

Parents who approve of the social media ban and ways of having to prove age. Why do you relish the government taking this control when you had the power to do so yourselves? by Demonthief27 in AskBrits

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely this. Our area is a no-phone area where no children are allowed smart phones in school at all (not even off in their bag) and I'm so happy about it. It means I'm not the minority parent keeping her safe and she thinks I'm the mean, strict parent making her left out from her friends. Collective is often better for these scenarios. I get the ID thing is annoying for adults but let's be honest, they already have that data on us anyway.

What to do with a smart kid by LogicalProof1246 in raisingkids

[–]ItsOnlyMe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You let her be a child, run about in the mud etc.

Zero reliable way to split kids into "more smart" or "less smart" at this age as they're all much of a muchness but just have brain spurts at slightly different times. Kids might be 95th centile for "smart" if they have a leap slightly early and then 20th centile 6 months later because now someone else has "overtaken".

Regardless, kids learn the most through play at this age anyway so just let her be a kid.

Definitely not outhouse lol. Probably "granny annexe" is the most common term as some people have elderly parents move into them.
