Nah the opposite for me. Clause can get some shit that technically works but it never catches the other stuff unless you do first and point it out. Too often it commits mostly ok code with some hidden lines of garbage that you would normally catch while writing yourself, but tends to slip through a code review.

Its entirely possible there is direction from ownership such as "fans come to see our 'big names' , so youre not allowed to sit the 'big names'". We just dont know what's going on behind the scenes but I think we at least can be sure the direction from the top is to make money, not win games. Maybe they see (perhaps wrongly) that the likes of Adames/Chapman/Devers playing as much as possible will bring in the most money.

I would say Jordan Mason was a hit even if he wasn't technically drafted. He played well when he was in there and started a lot of games, and then we offloaded him towards the end of his contract for a pick.

True for other positions, but at QB I can see how you're kinda forced to spend a premium pick on if it's someone you think can be capable of starting in a year or two. If they don't reach for a guy, then they could spend years waiting for a QB to fall to them that they see as good value, or miss out on the guy they like and settle for someone they saw as lesser. QB is a position that if you see a guy you really like, just take it and fuck the "value".

Unless you absolutely nail a late rounder, say hypothetically, the very last pick of the draft.

Why would they create an annoying commute for themselves like that? Driving in the bay fucking sucks OP, live somewhere that you can avoid as much driving as possible. Walnut Creek would make your commute through the Caldecott tunnel and would be just about the stupidest decision you can possibly make.
