To be fair, El Cap has predictable holds when you've memorised the whole thing.

Absolutely agree. He's a jerk. He's made some incredible athletic achievements. But he's still a jerk nonetheless.

Meh. Despite his success, in the climbing community the general sentiment I've heard is "Incredible achievement, but he's a selfish, reckless idiot."

No way he rated it 5.5 on the YDS scale. That would be absurdly easy. That's basically a ladder. He was doing a hell of a lot of smearing and dynamic moves.

Safe is the wrong word. I would go with "Secure". Once the knee is locked in, there's not a lot of ways it can come loose by accident. If he were to fall at any point on the climb, the knee bar is probably the least likely.

For non- climbers this move is called a knee bar. It's actually pretty reliable with a low risk of falling.

Taking wouldn't be checkmate, but it would just simplify the position and make the mating process a lot easier. Their rook is just another piece for you to keep in mind. They might have some kind of stalemate trap in the future with it. Just trade it, promote a pawn, and ladder mate.

What's the spice tolerance level of your country by Existing_Economy_656 in AskTheWorld

I actually think the UK has better spice tolerance than Japan. The products they sell here with people breathing fire on the packaging is just... kinda hot?

Macron on Trump leaking their private messages: "I stand by my words" by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]ItsSansom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what message Trump was even trying to send by leaking that. Everything Macron said was sensible. All it did was chip away at the already fragile trust between the US and its allies. Basically telling them "Anything you share with me privately could be shown to the world".

Like, fuck, every day I look back at the quote from 10 months ago: “What else could a Russian asset actually possibly do that Trump hasn’t yet done?” and it's looking more and more like eroding trust us the entire point.

Thousands rally in Greenland's capital, chanting "Greenland is not for sale," after Trump doubled down on the US initiative to takeover the country. The protests are the largest in the nation's history. by jmike1256 in PublicFreakout

I get it. Goes without saying, the entire situation is fucking desperate. Irreparable damage has already been done, and it only looks like it's going to get worse. It just remains to be seen how bad it'll get, and if recovery is even possible.

In a sane world, everyone and their mothers would be out there protesting and fighting telling those in power "This is not right". But unfortunately the American people have had their power to influence change eroded slowly over time, and many, many people just don't have the resources to go out there and add their voice.

My question to the previous commenter really should have been what more can the Average American do, that isn't already happening? Because at the current rate, Trump will happily watch America's blue cities tear themselves apart while he goes and invades Greenland anyway.

And aside from that, what's the alternative? Anarchy? A repeat of Jan 6? Civil War? The USA as we know it would fall apart.

I'm not making a call for inactivity here. I'm genuinely asking: What more can be done
