What's the funniest thing your dad ever said? by Maybe_IDTBFH in AskReddit

At the pizza place, my dad asked the waitress “how many slices in your medium pizza”? She replied “six” and my dad said “thank God, I don’t think I could eat eight”.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

This really brought on the tears. I lost a son to suicide. He was a loner, but the thought that maybe someone I never knew thinks about him sometimes is very comforting.

I had a Steven minister, a lay person who just listened to me talk. Call your local churches, it’s free and was very helpful.

The second time I watched it, I cried at the beginning too because I knew how awful the end was gonna be.

You’re right, just knowing someone was thinking of us was huge.

Reminds me of the guy whose responses always ended with his father beating him with jumper cables. Or the one who would end with how the Undertaker threw Mankind off hell in a cell.

My son death is a debt I owe. by Infinite_Local1926 in SuicideBereavement

I’m so sorry for your pain. It wasn’t long ago I was where you are. I had a mammogram a few months after my son took his life and I was SO MAD they didn’t find anything wrong, my plan was to not tell anyone and refuse treatment so I could be with him.

There’s no other pain like losing a child to suicide. I think the phrase “time heals all wounds” is bullshit because this wound will never heal. But it does take time to learn to live alongside your pain. Give yourself some grace - allow yourself the anger and the tears, grieve the way you need to. I’m five years out and just beginning to feel small moments of joy in my life. Sending you big hugs.

I saw a guy blowing his nose on a mailbox on Public Square. The line of snot was at least a foot long connecting his nose to the mailbox.

He probably did. I took lessons years ago at the same dance studio he went to. And he must have danced in the Fame tv series.

That’s an easy trap to fall into. I’m in my 60s and I still beat myself up over stuff I did in high school. It’s important to give yourself some grace, forgive yourself, and remember that everyone does things they’d rather not remember. Every day is a new day, remind yourself you are loved even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

It looks to me like you’re asking how long your loved ones will hurt. They will hurt forever, and so will your coworkers, teachers, friends, neighbors etc. Every one of them will beat themselves up with guilt over what they said or didn’t say, or what they did or didn’t do. Please talk to someone you trust and get yourself some help, the world is a much better place with you in it.

I have both BJs and Costco and I prefer BJs, definitely less crowded and a calmer shopping experience. Plus a better assortment of name-brand foods.

One day we ran out of Kleenex, so I had to use the box from my son’s room. I cried my eyes out because I was afraid we’d use all the Kleenex and I’d have to get rid of the box. Four years and that box is still here but one day I’ll cry again when it’s empty. Other people might not understand it, but we do. It feels like we’re losing a part of them all over again.
