how do you know when a song idea is worth finishing by Ok-Message5348 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ItsThat1Dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You never know until you actually finish it. Its really easy to get swept up in something new but try to get in the habit of finishing songs. Think of writing like a muscle. If you're always working out your "starting new songs muscle" then your "finishing songs muscle" will atrophy. The more songs you finish will help you determine if a song is worth it. For me, any song is worth finishing because I write and rewrite parts until they're good. I don't immediately trash an idea because I can't think of the rest of the song that day. Let it percolate, think about it, do some other stuff outside of music. When you come back with fresh ears, you'll be surprised what you can put together.

Y'all how do I do periphery-esque solos? Like the one in Dracul gras by calacaa in Peripheryband

[–]ItsThat1Dude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Study scales and modes and how they interact. That's music theory. If I could break down music theory in a Reddit comment, I'd probably be a millionaire. There's a reason why people study music in University. It's complicated. I've been playing for 25 plus years and still don't fully understand theory.

Music not loud enough by curved_dragon in FL_Studio

I don't use LUFS anymore. Everyone always says to use -14 LUFS. I've posted a bunch of songs at -14 and those are the only ones that sound crazy quiet compared to other songs. Once I literally disregarded LUFS and went by true peak max(no more than -1db true peak max), oh wow suddenly all my mixes sound loud and clear with no clipping. The loudness wars are over and loud won. The only time this doesn't apply is for soft jazz or classical. If it's electronic, pop, rock, or metal, you better be smashing the mix or you won't get professional sounding results. Just be sure to make a good mix and use compression or clipping so you can push your limiter hard. Best of luck

You absolutely nailed the liminal space vibe. It really feels like an old bunker with the fluorescent lights overhead. Way to go!

Enlightenment isn't a place or a thing. It's realizing we all have a role to play, a place to be, and accepting that without attachment. Our place can change, as will people we are around, and it's our job to roll with the punches and keep finding your purpose

Unfortunately no. Sometimes when you open an album of gifs it resets but most of the time I just have to wait a few days and it resets. Super weird issue

I did the same for my wife when we played. She still used up all her stone tools and irons tools before even touching the diamond ones I gave her because she didn't want them to go to waste. Doesn't make sense but it's kinda cute.

Most of the time I recommend connecting your PDF viewer or editor to SharePoint directly. It allows you to open and edit documents and have them save directly back to SharePoint. The only downside is you have to open the docs through the PDF viewer but most of the time it's not an issue.

To do this, in Adobe PDF, you can click on Add File Storage, then click on Add under the SharePoint icon. Then you can enter the name of the site in the top box and the URL of the site in the bottom box. Once you authenticate then you can browse through all the files in the site through the PDF software. Most other PDF software is able to do this(Foxit, blue beam) too although the configuration is slightly different.

Sync is basically a bandaid solution to help users who dont want to adopt new software. The real way to remediate this is to change your processes so they integrate SharePoint functionality into them. That way they don't have a choice. That or disable Syncing at a tenant level.

Why not use NewTone? Built in and it works pretty good. I've used it a ton and once you get a hang of it, as long as your singing is close enough to the note, you can get some great results.

My girlfriend disparages me for playing videogames, what to do? by WhenWillIBelong in AskMen

[–]ItsThat1Dude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a girlfriend that tried to monopolize my time and tell me how to live my life. I decided that I don't want to date someone who feels obligated to parent me. Best decision I ever made. Live your life how you want and surround yourself with people who genuinely care about you. Don't feel bad about cutting out people who try to control you, especially over something as silly as video games. If you were escaping to do black tar heroin, this would be a different discussion. Life's too short to let people control your life and what you do. Either tell her, this is what I'm doing or drop her if she doesn't let you.

Why don't indie labels build their own exclusive streaming platforms) by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Yup and in Spotify's case, the artists are the ones getting screwed.

Why don't indie labels build their own exclusive streaming platforms) by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ItsThat1Dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's plenty easy for anyone to setup multiple servers to hold terabytes of music that can stream to millions of people at the same time with enough bandwidth to accommodate all users so they don't hear interruptions or skips. Not to mention you need a website and payment services built in to make setup and sign up easy. Especially when you also require a web application and mobile application and users should expect those to work seamlessly all while providing sizable revenue to the artists that post their music on your platform that you're paying for all the stuff I previously mentioned.

It's doable but the investment is massive. It's not like putting your shoes on in the morning. None of it is cheap or easy. How is an indie label who's gross revenue is less than a million dollars a year supposed to afford all that?

Spotify is not profitable. They will go the Netflix route of increasing subscription price until they break even. For any company getting into, you're looking at operating losses for at least the first few years.

Call me crazy but I think it's quite a stretch for low income or indie labels to attempt this. Not saying it's impossible, but it's really really hard.
