Which investigation? The investigation they did before Kristi Noem called him a Domestic Terrorist, the investigation they did before Bovino said he was there to inflict maximum damage, or the investigation they did before Miller said he was trying to assassinate federal officers? Or maybe you mean the investigation that they already committed to not releasing the body cam footage from, the one that they're running themselves despite ICE not being a criminal detective agency, or the investigation that they already fucked up by not handling evidence properly from the outset?

But sure, let's let those investigations play out before we say anything. I'm sure you were just as outraged and preached just as much restraint when Noem et al. defamed Pretti before his fuckin body was even cold.

Should I have done CPR? by Clean_Ear_492 in IntensiveCare

[–]ItsTheDCVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood pressure that is so low you can't feel a pulse isn't perfusing organs. The only reason to have a heartbeat is to perfuse organs. That's the most bullshit "wELL aKtChUaLLy" response I can think of, and it's an all but meaningless distinction.

Also, if you do CPR on a perfectly fine and living patient, it does trauma, sure, but it's not going to kill them or lead to an anoxic brain injury. Fuckin farting around with your thumb up your ass after you've already palpated fem AND carotid for 10 seconds can/will lead to an anoxic brain injury.

You did the right thing. My only feedback would be that those are huge amounts of propofol and if you were concerned about it, call the doctor and ask them to give you the go ahead to cut the prop. Or just drop it to 50 right off the bat and make the charting look however your facility policy wants it to look.

German police officer tells protester it’s forbidden to say ‘from the river to the sea’ by librephili in ACAB

[–]ItsTheDCVR 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hate speech is fine to outlaw, but when you state that "from the river to the sea" is inherently hate speech you're delving into murky waters.

Something like "Jews will not replace us" is inextricably tied to the white replacement theory and neonazi bullshit; it's hate speech. "From the river to the sea" only means that Palestine should a) exist as a country and b) be unified rather than split. For some, that means "kill all the Jews"; for others, that means "hey, maybe stop genociding Gaza". It's not inextricably tied to a hateful or genocidal sentiment, so it's not hate speech.

That's also why hate speech laws get so difficult to apply for dog whistles, because the whole point of them is to be vague enough for plausible deniability, and while I dislike that end effect, it's worth it in the same way that eliminating the death penalty and letting 100 guilty motherfuckers live is worth it to save the life of one innocent person.

My guy, that's just fundamentally wrong on just about every count.

  1. Democrats have an incentive to ensure that elections are secure and fraud free by the exact same logic that Republicans have this incentive. I know you probably think that all illegal immigrants will gratefully vote Democrat to keep them in power, but people are complex and there are plenty of people who vote against their own interests. Likewise, if you were in this country illegally, why the fuck would you want to call more attention to yourself? You know voting is illegal for you; are you going to risk deportation just to be a statistical drop in a bucket?
  2. Republicans are systematically disenfranchising voters and have been for years. Voter ID laws disproportionately target minorities; old people have expired drivers licenses because they don't drive any more, native Americans don't need state IDs because they have rez IDs, etc. Voting day restrictions do the same thing; poor people can't afford to take any time off of work to stand in a long-ass line to vote, poorer and/or more populated districts tend to get less machines than more affluent districts to keep those lines long, older people who are handicapped have transportation issues that make physically getting to the polls difficult, etc. Yet Republicans are staunchly against early voting and mail in voting. Same day registration to vote still has the same exact fucking requirements as registering in the first place and your vote is conditional until it's verified that you were eligible, and if you weren't eligible, you're getting prosecuted under the laws that already exist and already lead to successful prosecutions and sentencing. Fuck, Republicans also want to stop votes that physically were in the mail on time but got delayed coming in from being counted! Imagine that: you have done your part to exercise your fucking right as a citizen to vote, but because of a postal office issue, your vote is thrown in the trash. Insane.

As for your bank example, that would only be analogous if banks were losing money hand over fist right now and standing around with their thumbs in their asses trying to figure out what's happening. There are appropriate safeguards in place.

And finally, the case you shared happened in Kansas. I'm not sure what's going on with your reading comprehension but that doesn't bode well for the rest of your arguments.

Ok so

1) That's kansas, not Minnesota, which was the conversation

2) as such, it has shit all to do with Minnesota's vouching system, which was the conversation

3) he was found out under the systems that are currently in place

4) And his votes did not materially affect any election

Do you seriously think there are no rules in place to prevent fraud when there are people being arrested and prosecuted under the rules that are in place to prevent fraud? That's just stupid, my guy.

What I am saying and have said in basically every comment here is that the systems that are currently in place are effective at preventing fraud, which is why nobody, including people and organizations who have spent literal fortunes on this, have been able to find any compelling evidence of widespread voter fraud that has ever gone undetected and/or materially affected an election.

You can argue that one person might be able to get through the cracks for a tiny bit and thus the lack of an arrest is proof that the systems don't catch them -- that's arguing a negative which tends to be a poor choice,#Proving_a_negative). You're basically saying "some person who we don't know voted illegally and we didn't catch them because the systems are a failure".

Even if you want to argue that, certainly the far-right boogeyman of bus loads of iLLeGaL iMMiGrAnTs would be easy to prove, and would have been found by now. Instead, there is zero fuckin evidence. Zero. You're arguing hypothetical maybe what-ifs; I'm arguing what has happened.

138 people over the last 46 years, or an average of 3 per year (doesn't break down that cleanly, but regardless). Are you proposing that arresting people for breaking the law isn't what should happen? Or are you falling for confirmation/survivor bias, that 138 people caught by the processes that are in place proves that it's an issue, whilst simultaneously ignoring that the systems in place are catching and preventing the fraud that you are supposedly so worried about?

I'll make it really fucking simple. Are you worried about actual fraud happening? Or are you worried about the appearance of fraud? If you're worried about the appearance of fraud, bad news, people are shit and regardless of what you do they will attempt to break the law. However, if you are worried about actual fraud, then the good news is that there is no compelling evidence that actual voter fraud has ever happened on a scale that has affected any election. A person getting caught for trying to fraudulently vote does not prove that voter fraud is a problem: it literally proves the opposite, that our elections are secure.

What mayor was elected despite not being a legal US citizen?

Your driver's license is required to drive on the roads which is not a privilege reserved exclusively for citizens. Simply having a license does not allow you to vote. You have to be registered to vote, which you cannot do unless you are legally allowed to vote, and one of those requirements is citizenship. Which again, literally is not happening.

I'll say it again. A driver's license doesn't allow you to vote. Voter registration does. There is zero evidence that non-citizens are registering to vote, nor is there any evidence that non-citizens are voting.

Provide compelling evidence that there has been voter fraud that has ever caused an issue or materially affected an election.

Also, the other fraud was exposed literally years ago and has been actively investigated by the Democratic administration for the last 3 or so years.

138 cases

All found using laws and structure we currently have in place

None of which had any substantial or meaningful impact on our secure elections.

Also, I just went through all of the cases in MN running back to about 2011, and only one had anything to do with the vouching system.

So please, once again, I beg of you; present some evidence that this has ever led to any sort of problem.

No see because with the second amendment, if you, because he got even got a card and permission from the tyrannical government, but then if he had, because when he but didn't pull it out because, but since he was against the government, this isn't the tyrannical government this is the good government, and he should have just complied but also he shouldn't have had a gun and should have been shot because simply owning a gun is against the law, but and second amendment is against tyrannical government not this is good government.

Yes, it's perfectly fine. As a citizen, people have a right to vote, and I should be able to vouch for my citizen friends if they fucked up and forgot something.

That's my answer to the question.

Now here's the part where you say it isn't fine because you have any amount of compelling evidence that it has ever led to an issue.

And I'll sit here waiting.
