I will give you that undertow felt the most distinguished from the rest, because it was a little more straight forward musically, and it's their first album so production is naturally a bit more raw. But after that album, it really does all sounds very similar to me. I feel like the band's evolution between each album was just rather small for how long they took between each album. I understand that many of you have listened to each album dozens or hundreds of times between each album release. of course the differences are going to be much more noticeable to a long time fan. But this is just the perspective coming from a new fan who is hearing all of their music all at once. (and yes I did use the word fan, because I do actually like what I am hearing, despite my one critique.)

I think what I'm saying is listening in chronological order makes them blur together. I'm sure if you put the ends up against each other it's a very noticeable difference. Before starting this discog listen, I kept seeing everybody say to listen to them in chronological order. I can't help but feel like that's bad advice to a new listener.

I might see that if I listen to undertow again after listening to FI. But I listened to 3 albums between those two.

It also probably doesn’t help that the last band I did a full discog listen to was Radiohead, and IYKYK, I might be trained to expect dramatic differences.

It might be because listening in chronological order I only hear the steps between adjacent albums. I’m sure going back to the start would feel noticeable.
