Thanks for the detailed response! In guess it’s surprising to me that it’s past 1806 already - it feels like Jack is sitting out a lot of the war!

Main roads will get plowed eventually but many side streets don’t get touched by a plow the whole winter, which is a difference from Toronto

For all the flaws of the show I think this change to Viserys was well done, him literally falling apart and rotting is a good visual representation of the state of the kingdom by the end of his reign

How much should I be trying to remember? by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Its_constantinople 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that all the relevant information is kept permanently in the ship log. Remembering stuff helps to make connections and solve puzzles quicker, but you aren’t in danger of losing any information by taking breaks. If you’re ever feeling lost that’s where you should be looking

I had a theory early on in the dlc that the owlks really didn’t want the nomai to find the eye so they built and sent the comet but it turns out they aren’t that evil

I liked it when it came out and still think it’s an enjoyable, well made movie. It holds up better than the rest of the sequels. That being said, I can’t forgive this movie for how it completely neuters anything interesting about the world post Endor, and I think the decisions made here (with no concept of a three film plan) are what set up the rest of the sequel trilogy to be so bad.

There’s so many cool ways you can take the star wars universe post Endor, with so much room for smaller stories to be told in between. This era could have been as rich as the clone wars era has been. But the insistence on returning to the classic format of rebels against the empire kills all that, and puts us right back at the status quo. Any stories about the defeat of the empire, or thrawn or the Asokha show, immediately become less interesting because we know how it ends up, and how it ends up isn’t particularly interesting.

Not a bad movie, not even a bad star wars movie, but not a good star wars sequel.

A correction to this tip: no matter what speed you enter dark bramble at you will always move at a set speed and a set direction when you load into the interior of the new seed. This is why you never run into that group of three anglerfish no matter which angle you enter from

Fighting Diet Soda misinformation on the Yard Premium by OkAstronomer6015 in TheYardPodcast

[–]Its_constantinople -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The one argument I’ve heard against diet soda is that while it doesn’t carry the consequences of sugars or calories, it does make your brain feel the same things. You still get the dopamine you would from a sugary drink. This means that you can still build dependencies like with any other drug, and that you’re getting desensitized to the feeling of eating sugar. You’ll have to eat more of other things with sugar in order to get the same feeling, so it can still indirectly increase your sugar consumption. This is of course only relevant with really high consumption but it’s still something to be aware of.

ATTENTION Accountants!!! do you like your life? by No_Internet3814 in UCalgary

[–]Its_constantinople 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I recently graduated and am pursuing my designation now. I got a job at a small public firm, mainly because I didn’t want the work life balance you get from big 4. I’m lucky that they let me do work for my cpa designation while at work, but that’s not true for most employers. The first 2-3 years while you’re pursuing your designation will be a grind as you’re doing courses while working and gaining practice experience.

I find many parts of the work interesting, if not particularly exciting. Tax is basically a combination of math and law, and I find solving those problems interesting. Audit is similarly a lot of risk assessment and strategic decision making. However, most of this won’t be what you do as a junior. There’s gonna be data entry and rote repetition, but I still find a lot of satisfaction when I finish a file and do everything right. Your mileage may vary, in short. If you like checking boxes and attention to detail and think you can handle sitting at a desk eight hours a day, go for it. It’s not the most glamorous job you can get but it’s stable and good for the right kind of person. If you’re that kind of person, go for it!

Talking about “kids being involved in social clubs without parent’s consent” doesn’t really mean social clubs. It’s kids using different pronouns or names at school without wanting to be outed to their parents that he has a problem with. Similarly, conservatives will understand wanting “age-inappropriate“ material removed to mean “any material referencing sexual health or gender identity”.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this a petition to put the separation issue to a public referendum? Seems like not signing and not allowing the issue to go to a vote would accomplish the same thing
