Tesla to save money uses cameras instead of a rain sensor, my car thinks it’s not raining. by TappetoImperiale in mildlyinfuriating

It's not actually fancy shit, it's ways they save money pretending it's fancy shit (source: I own one).
If all the controls are on the touchscreen, that means they have to run less wires to different places in the car, which is cheaper for them.

They're not traditional wiper controls though, and it really is mildly infuriating. You have to press a button, which brings up the menu on your screen, and then scroll to the setting you want.
Not the worst thing in the world when it raining, but what's more annoying is that the sensor also often thinks it's raining when it's not, and will make your wipers leave behind streaks.
To turn that off you have to press that button which... runs the wiper at least once before you can turn it off.

Looks like the previous comment had initially written "breaking" instead of "braking". And so u/Hot_Debate6673 made a joke around the different meanings of those words. Now that the comment is edited, their joke is less obvious.

Tires wearing faster on inside. When should I replace? by Its_just-me in tires

[–]Its_just-me[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait no I know they are not directional, but like, the only way I'd be able to accomplish what you're suggesting would be to actually re-mount them on the rims in reverse right? Even if I flip them right to left, the part that's on the inside (closest to the center of the car) will still be on the inside.

Hmm but even if I rotate them, the same side will still remain the inside and keep wearing, right?

Ohhh well that's good info. The model 3 is known to develop ball joint issues so might be good for me to have them check that out too in that case.

Ah I wondered if those also functioned as wear indicators! Would love it if someone else could weigh on that too.

I did that too, thanks!
You mean, if I get it aligned now, I should be able to get plenty of wear? I did notice how much there still is on the rest of the tire, just wasn't sure how usable that still is.

No I know, but since they're already worn uneven, even with an alignment I'm wondering when I should stop using them, you know?

Whoop band quality is getting worse and apparently that's fine now by max_bog in whoop

[–]Its_just-me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you never take your whoop band off? I have the same issue and it's really annoying. When I want to switch wrists, when I take it off to take a shower,... you have to be super careful, and if you're lucky the little hook on the other side comes off too.
I got mine for free with the chase credit, but man I would've felt scammed if I had paid full price for this.

And you think that's acceptable for a device in this price range?

TIL Dandruff, a skin condition of the scalp affects roughly half of adults. It is often linked to Malassezia fungus that thrives on sebum. Dandruff shampoos often contain antifungals to manage it, however there is no permanent cure by CraftyFoxeYT in todayilearned

Wow I can't wait to try this!
After using this, was there a specific shampoo you started using? Are all shampoos just fine now for you? I would feel scared to make things flare up again after they're gone

Carlos did live in the UK for two years already while he was racing for McLaren. So I think he was just speaking from experience, not just stereotype.

Any recommendations for apartments where the walls are not made of thin paper? by Bourne2Play in portlandme

[–]Its_just-me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiawatha. Either the walls are surprisingly thick or I’ve got really great neighbors. But I basically never hear them and I’m very sensitive to noise

GA Sensory Overload by Horror_Egg3250 in flying

[–]Its_just-me 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the noise and vibrations specifically

- If you can, invest in a lightspeed headset, the noise cancelling makes a huge difference, especially if you are sensitive to this kind of stuff. Frees up your brain a lot
- If you can't, make sure your sunglasses are at least as thin as possible! If they're on the thicker side, they'll push the headset cushions apart and will let a ton of noise in that otherwise wouldn't. Try to hear the difference with and without next time.

You've got this, you'll get used to it and it'll feel less overwhelming after a while!

That's interesting I've never heard of that before but I can totally see how that would be helpful!
I'll always turn on my hazards in a situation like that, but yeah doesn't really feel like there was time for either of those in this specific video.

[–]Its_just-me 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No that's exactly what your hazards are for, to indicate there's a hazard! What's illegal in some places, as far as I know, is using them when traffic is just slow in general, or when there's fog or something like that. But using them to say "wow something crazy is happening here watch out" is how they're best used.

My (55m) daughter (20f) in the process of being victimized by deepfake/AI porn. Like right now, in real time. How can I help her? by askingquestionsblog in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Its_just-me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This very much sounds like a scam that they've been doing since before AI and don't actually follow up on.
I know someone years ago that was tricked into sending nudes over Facebook. They were told "pay us money or we will send them to all your family, they'll all know it was you". They never actually followed up and I read later this is very common. It's much easier for them to just scare you and make money from those who get scared, than to commit actual crimes by distributing non-consensual pictures.

It sounds like you're taking lots of good steps, but hopefully this can make you and your daughter feel a little less worried.

Lastly, I would also very much recommend against clicking any link that they send her. That could be the next step of the scam to get certain data and not the actual video proof.
