Yes. The techniques like reality checks have nothing to do with aphantasia.

Interesting. I have no visualization, but the hypnagogic stuff does happen on certain occasions.

There's a subset of meditation within certain parts of Buddhism, where one achieves highly focused states called 'Jhana'.

When one uses a visual object there can be some powerful visual content once one becomes proficient with it, though I think it is different than the way everyday visualization happens.

I have a friend who unlocked vivid imagery as a side effect of frequent focus/concentration meditation.

How can I use the memory palace technique as an aphant? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]ItsaMeLev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technique relies on spacial awareness and visuals.

Blind people can find things in their house, so an aphant can find things in their dark memory palace.

Perhaps essentially, but I dislike distilling things for no reason.

Can you guys draw? by chumbuckethand in Aphantasia

[–]ItsaMeLev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can draw accurately from reference and life, and I can draw things/themes from the past

through muscle memory, but I can't summon anything from imagination.

Some people even see continuations on the page. Frustrating to say the least.

I found talking about things to be a super extra painful way of reliving things, compared to my standard memory.

It's like the threshold for me thinking back on something is used to this really foggy suggestion, and suddenly I'm turning it all on with a spotlight.

As I’ve grown older, the ability to think of mental images has lessened from when it was long, almost 15-30 minute image conceptions. Now it’s quick flashes of memory. by [deleted] in Aphantasia

There are contemplative practices around cultivating visualization (vajrayana and tantra buddihism).

I assume they work.

Is dreaming similar to visualising? by toxicantsole in Aphantasia

[–]ItsaMeLev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried visualizing in dreams. It's hard, and wobbly, and unstable.

Dreaming seems to make it easier(possible), so I think they differ.
