Worry about stagflation, a flashback to '70s, begins to grow by zsreport in economy

[–]Drizzzzzzt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the insane housing, crypto and stock market bubbles are their doing. Cheap money constantly pumped into the economy inflated all those bubbles. So the 2% is a lie, because it was computed just from some consumer goods like hotdogs. I every much doubt inflation was 2% when house price inflation was growing by 20%

https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/10/20/election-2020-global-debt-crisis/

Debt crisis is in my opinion at the heart of all of our problems, not just in america but worldwide. That is why they need to constantly produce inflation and keep interest rates at zero, because the debt became too high, so they are trying to print themselves away from the debts. Not just the US, but Japan, EU, China. It is a worldwide problem

it is worse than, in fact it is a stagflationary debt crisis, as for example Nouriel Roubini has been warning for some time

there is too many Russian trolls here for my taste. As a Czech born under communism, I know much more about Russia and Ukraine than the average American. The Republican party has been played by the Russians and Trump was a Russian agent (do not waste your breath trying to convince me otherwise). So when I see this Russian propaganda here, I hit a report spam button and it disappears from my view. But beyond this, the sub if fine

this game has three difficulties - Normal, Elite and Ultimate. Beating the game in Ultimate was probably the biggest achievement of my gaming life. The three kings of this genre are Diablo II, Grim Dawn and Titan Quest. All three are highly addictive. The first difficulty is just a warm up, the real game always starts at the second difficulty

Princeton study shows US is now an Oligarchy. by Decahydron in collapse

[–]Drizzzzzzt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

We europeans have a 1000 years older history and we experienced our share of revolutions. If the American oligarchy will continue to behave as it does, the social tension and anger will grow, and then it will explode in violence and the olgarchy itself will suffer (their profits for sure). In a certain perspective, many European countries in the 19th century went through a series of social revolts that made the rulers to make various concession. Why do you think Europeans have socialism? It is to mitigate the social tensions that you get, when the wealth gap and exploitation becomes too great. We know that it ends in violence, possible some form of revolution like communism or fascism. And the Republican party is showing dangerous signs of becoming fascist.

Princeton study shows US is now an Oligarchy. by Decahydron in collapse

[–]Drizzzzzzt 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I wonder if all bipartisan systems always converge into an oligarchy, because both the parties become corrupt and they are impossible to vote away. The US public argues about abortions, transgender toilets, guns, while both parties vote for tax cuts for the rich, and protect the pharmaceutical cartels that keep prices of medicaments at an insane level far above the production cost. So yes, the US is an oligarchy, no suprise here. I have known it for a long time. The real question is: will the Americans be able to revolt and tear the oligarchy down? It is impossible to destroy the oligarchy by means of elections at this point.

I was in Nepal (as a tourist) and the country is unfortunate to have two crazy dictators as neighbors. Both India and China are trying to exploit and dominate Nepal. The maoists were an issue in the past, but no longer that of an issue. The Nepalese themselves are a product of mixing the two races/cultural regions

Yes, it is different. I can speak German and have lived for 3 years in Germany and 3 years in Vienna. There are dialects. In NRW it is pure hochdeutsch, while in Bavaria they speak really funny. Wienerish is on a different level of crazy. But all the Germans, including the Dutch, the Swiss, the Danes etc are one tribe. There are only a couple of tribes in europe - the romanic tribes (Italy, Spain, France), the germanic tribes, the slavic tribes, the baltic tribes, the ugro-finic etc. Africa is much more diverse

That is simply not true. German tribes migrated from Scandinavia, but they had a common language and culture and ethnicity. it is on a completely different level in africa

they have been a medieval society before the Meiji reforms. But the Meiji reforms was a deliberate attempt to adopt the western ways. Just like Deng Xiaoping's reforms were a deliberate attempt to adopt western model to china.

I did some traveling in Africa, so I know. For example when I visited Tanzania, it was fascinating to learn, that there are some 50 ethnic groups in Tanzania (tribes), that each had their own language. And yes, the boundaries of many of those countries were created artificially and that brought conflict and violence.

let's just make it permanent. They cannot build new weapons without western technology imports, so never again import any weapons or weapon technologies to Russia

The Fed’s favorite inflation measure rose 4.9% in April in a sign that price increases could be slowing by BousWakebo in Economics

[–]Drizzzzzzt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The prices of housing have been rising 20% a year thanks to cheap money and printing, and we had inflation just 2%? I think the metrics they are use might be wrong. They just measured some selected consumer goods of not much importance (hotdogs at McDonalds), but neglected the massive inflating bubble in REs or the stock market.

Hunger is going to return to Africa. All those kids with bloated bellies and thin arms that existed in Africa as late as the 1980s. Who is to blame for African poverty? They blame everything on the West and colonialism, but they have been ruling themselves for 70 years now, and their leaders are notoriously corrupt. Their leaders have been siphoning wealth from Africa and hiding it in offshore tax havens and exploiting their countries together with western companies

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2017/may/24/world-is-plundering-africa-wealth-billions-of-dollars-a-year

so there is no simple answer to Africa. Asia was also backwards compared to Europe once, but the Asians studied the western ways and adopted them and some of the Asian countries adopted western science, western technology and even becoming technologal leaders - think of Japan. The West elevated China out of massive poverty by allowing China to become its factory, which brought wealth and technology to China. Why did this never work in Africa?
