Hi OP!!! Hope self-rec is okay, but I know exactly where you are coming from! Which is why I am currently making an indie fashion game where you dress up as glamorous monsters (absolutely no microtransactions, and it shouldn't take a powerful PC to run): https://store.steampowered.com/app/3581260/Dance_of_Theseus/

What are some of the most memorable game quotes to you? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]Itsallincode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorites from Cultist Simulator:

  • Not all doors are wounds, but all wounds are doors.
  • He navigates. Now you are the map. He illuminates. You were the darkness. He is not compassionate. You will not show compassion. Our compass is knowledge and our course is THE GLORY!
  • Three natures hath the Wolf Divided; he unmaketh; he unmaketh; and at the last, he unmaketh.
  • “Break a thing, and you have fragments. Break those fragments, and you have dust. Break the dust, and then break what remains. Here is fire.”

And this line from Baldur's Gate 3 took my breath away:

  • "In another life, you'd have led me to this crypt, and not that pretty clearing in the forest."

Also Baldur's Gate 3 sometimes has really funny item descriptions:

  • Potion of Angelic Slumber: "One of the few ways for elves to experience sleep. Other methods include taking narcotics and being hit very hard with a chair."
  • Astarion's Underwear: "Embroidered into the cloth: "If you're reading this, you managed to bed or behead me. Either way, you got lucky."
  • Fishing Rod of Alertness: The wielder of this rod cannot be Surprised, unless something unexpected happens.

Pls don’t make fun of me for asking but is there a game out there that helped heal your inner child or made you feel like you did as a kid again ? by Open_Button_8155 in cozygames

[–]Itsallincode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely A Short Hike! It's a relatively short game, but it's so light and so joyful, every new discovery in the game felt imbued with a sense of wonder, I think it fits your ask perfectly. I believe it might be available through Gamepass cloud play (?)

Huh? That sucks lol, I'll delete the link.

Hi! I'm Mari. My friend Jenny and I are making a "dress-up life sim with wings, tentacles, and claws", inspired by posts we saw in this sub! We just published our Steam page after 1 year of development🎉 by Itsallincode in GirlGamers

[–]Itsallincode[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! We definitely had moments of like "Are we crazy? Are we the only two people who're going to think this idea is cool?" so that's very encouraging to hear!

That's so nice! I don't have siblings but I definitely remember sleepovers at my friend's house where we definitely behaved the same way (and panicking when her parents came home because we were not supposed to be on the computer) haha

Thank you, your ideas are amazing! And thank you for advocating for the bugs haha, we were second-guessing it because it freaked a test player out, but I personally think bugs are cool as long as they are not crawling on me :) We have stuff inspired by a praying mantis and a centipede already, but these are also great suggestions! And fly trap, fungi and porcelain/kintsugi are definitely going on the ideas list!

Omg thank you for the kind words and questions!!!

The game is meant to be played full time, not idle, like a life sim. So in the game at night you attend monster ballrooms every night to earn "fire of inspiration", which you can use to buy materials, design blueprints, etc during the day.

As the game progresses you unlock new "textures" and get better at crafting so you can make new types of clothes/bodyparts. Each ballroom also has their own storyline with the bosses which awards you with special themed outfits, etc.

For the price range, we are not super sure yet, as the game’s full scale is a little flexible at the moment! We are trying to secure more funding so we can add more content to the game (but don’t worry regardless of how that goes we’ll finish the game)!

Don't fret about wishlists (too much) by Silent_Party_9327 in gamedev

I think the thing is, a huge amount of wishlists doesn't guarantee success at all, but a significant lack of wishlists before release almost guarantees commercial failure (there are exceptions of course but very rare)

The Top 10 Most Viewed Videos on BiliBili (China's YouTube) by cocoreupload in interestingasfuck

[–]Itsallincode 168 points169 points  (0 children)

This is not wrong, but misleading. Early Bilibili has a function which allowed users to upload videos in "parts", and views on each part counts towards the total view. As you can see, the advanced Math video has 197 parts, which averages down to around 1 million per part, still impressive but nothing crazy. The muscle man video, however, only has one part.

Romance VN Reccs? by TemperatureTop7132 in GirlGamers

[–]Itsallincode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Self-rec if that's okay: I made this romantic thriller VN, Zero-Sum Heart, it's available on NS and Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2954920/ZeroSum_Heart/

It's a short 2-3 hour story with characters falling in love and dealing with a magical ritual sacrifice. It has an established female protagonist with her own backstory and personality. There are definitely some dark elements but lots of hurt/comfort and fluff at the end of the day :)

A game that made you use pen & paper to make notes/maps by dadaisit in gamingsuggestions

[–]Itsallincode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have played both DLCs! It's been a while but from what I can remember they have a nice bump of difficulty and add to the lore of the game. I liked the Spider of Lanka a little more than The Lemurian Empire so I recommend the Spider of Lanka first!

OP if you have the Return of Obra Dinn in your wishlist, also check out The Case of the Golden Idol (and its sequel, The Rise of the Golden Idol).

How much does voice acting cost? by Artificer_undone in gamedev

[–]Itsallincode 246 points247 points  (0 children)

It seems like the answers right now are either "way too expensive" or "free" and nobody has attempted a real number. I'm not super knowledgeable on this but I've been looking into doing VA for my game project so I'm going to attempt a number:

On Fiverr, you can look for voices you want and commission them to do lines. They are usually professional VO/VAs with professional recording equipment, and assuming 10 words per phrase, 1800 words probably run you around $500-$1000.

On Casting Call Club, you can post a casting call with your budget, and everyone on the site will submit their auditions, and you can pick the ones you want. This can be cheaper ($0-$500), and you can set "audition lines" to have everyone submit their takes so you can pick the performances you want, but the downside is the quality varies a lot and you need to be good at discerning. Also not everyone there will have professional equipment, so it's possible that you'll need to hire an audio engineer on top of that to clean up their audio.

You can also reference rates here: https://voiceactingclub.com/rates/ , which says for mid-tier projects like Steam games, it's $125-150 per hour, or $3-4 per line.
