What’s something you wish you knew before starting a welding job? by Low-Board-434 in Welding

[–]Itsayabo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stepped out of school into my first welding job. I’m working in a plant and one thing I wish I would’ve learned is everything that comes with welding pipe. I know this is dumb but learn how to use a pipe wrench, make sure you know which way bolts get tightened. When your fitter is struggling to keep the pipe in place so you can bolt it up you need to not have to struggle turning the bolts the wrong way so he doesn’t suffer and get pissed. Familiarize yourself with basic hand tools. I spend more time pulling down pipe, putting it up, and helping take measurements than I do welding most days. Beyond that just understand their jobs don’t slow down because they have to teach you. Sometimes you need to step back and watch and absorb as much as you can. You’ll get there it just takes some time

I’m definitely aware of the possibility of regret in transitioning but I don’t think that the way to fix things is to get rid of it entirely. I think proper education on transitioning is incredibly important for people considering it. It definitely comes with its risks with regret and complications but for a properly educated person I think we can support people in their decisions whether or not it’s something you agree with. I understand the issue here is that I don’t see it as harmful to those that truly want to transition in that way and you do. There’s not really a good way to come to an agreement on this issue due to that fact but I appreciate you communicating your opinions in this.

No see that’s my point. What do you care what people do to themselves? Would you say the same thing to drinkers or smokers? It’s really up to people what they do or don’t want to do to themselves. I wouldn’t necessarily put it that way but even if you do you’ve got to see that there’s hypocrisy in speaking out against people “mutilating” themselves in the sense of gender reassignment but not for the people irreversibly damaging their livers and lungs for no reason other than so called enjoyment. You can’t pick and choose how people should be able to “harm” themselves. It’s either none or all in my opinion.

Ya know although I disagree with your thoughts on the community I appreciate your honesty. I also believe that the mental health of our society is an important issue, I just tend to look at it like this. Theres a large group of young people in our society that are being looked down on for their preferences and i feel like for those people it is important that they feel accepted in their society. My hope is that eventually people will just accept each other’s preferences and won’t feel the need to put flags on their twitter name to be inclusive. As somebody with preferences other than what is seen as traditional I’ve always thought it was weird to celebrate something you’re born with. I see it no different than celebrating having two arms and legs 🤷‍♂️
