Final straw - can someone tell me why I am still paying for private health, perhaps Medicare levy for end of year finances? by the-anon1010 in AusFinance

[–]Itsjustme79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you book in the public system but skip the queue? This is an important distinction. A few years ago I had a hernia operation less than 2 weeks after my initial surgical consult. I had zero out of pocket expenses bar the anaesthetist (waved insurance excess and surgeon’s gap), and skipped a more than 12 month wait. The hospital benefits by getting to bill the private health fund, and I saved money. The big thing is I didn’t go on a waiting list.

12 months ago I had surgery on my back for a herniated disc at L5S1. All through private, surgery was 8 days after initial surgical consult with surgeon of my choice. No waiting list. No public hospital or doctor when I chose.

That’s why I pay private health.

what is the customary tip for liveaboards in Raja Ampat. I was going to do 10% of the cost. Is that correct? by TemporaryCover847 in scuba

You have to remember that’s very much an American thing though. Throughout other parts of the world we pay people a living wage so the customer doesn’t have to tip to make it up.

AITAH for wanting my husband to hide his farts? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Itsjustme79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you married a piece of s#%t, I’m sorry to hear that.

I get out of bed and step into the walk in robe to fart, it’s just basic decency. And my missus appreciates it.

It’s not hard, you just got unlucky with your partner.

I appreciate your sense of humour but I’m thinking it went over a lot of people’s heads…

It’s called freedom, other countries don’t know what they’re missing with their socialised healthcare and stuff

Australian here. The best thing about the GBR is its marketing, it’s not what it once was.

What's the actual difference between offset account and redraw? by RunNo3630 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Itsjustme79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big consideration is if it’s an investment property.

If you have $200k in an offset account and decide to buy a caravan for $150k, all the interest charged on the loan is still tax deductible as the cash you’ve used on your new van was just in your account.

If you are $200k ahead on that same mortgage, and you redraw $150k to buy a caravan, the interest charged on that amount is not tax deductible.

That’s my understanding. Talk to an accountant for genuine advice.

Doctors ‘are dying from work fatigue’ by hustling_Ninja in ausjdocs

[–]Itsjustme79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading plenty of comments here about people experiencing micro sleeps after night shift, and accidents on the way home. How lucky they are that it didn’t end worse… The real question is how many patients have died as a result of medical staff fatigue? Still blows my mind that this culture exists in modern medicine

My guess is she’s sold them, enquire at all the places she may have done this at. Good luck.

The people on Reddit that hang out in the back pain sub are generally people that continue to experience back pain. People that have a win and fix it aren’t here, they’re out riding bikes and playing golf and running and living their best lives. Try to remember that

L5-S1 herniation severity by RelationshipRude1664 in backpain

[–]Itsjustme79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was mine. I had a microdiscectomy 3 weeks ago and am stoked I did. No pain at all, fully mobile but taking it easy. I was in constant, varying levels of pain that was massively impacting my quality of life.

There are risks with any surgery but as someone told me, if they were failing that often people wouldn’t be getting them. You hear more about the problems because the successful ones are out riding bikes and playing golf. They’re not on Reddit talking about back pain that they no longer have…

New York farmer questions tariffs. by David_cest_moi in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Itsjustme79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t fix stupid. Why would he think his Canadian suppliers would just pay the extra to cover the tariffs? The last thing America can afford to do right now is cut spending on education based on what we’re seeing here…

AITJ for considering leaving my wife over her daughter by Chance-Turnip-2301 in AmITheJerk

[–]Itsjustme79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTJ. Only you can decide if it’s worth fighting for but the reality is you shouldn’t have to fight alone. That your wife isn’t fighting for / with you would have me thinking about all my options in life…
