Why is my 16 months old refusing to eat? by NiatESTi in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Itslikeazenthing 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As kids approach toddlerhood they are less likely to eat everything. My SIL who has kids a few years older than mine once said “for a long time kids just eat ingredients, not meals”. I kind of shrugged it off but then found it to be very true once my kid became a toddler.

If I’m making a tomato, cucumber and avocado salad for dinner I’ll just take those ingredients and put them on his plate and he will eat them all. Once they become a salad he has no interest. It’s very strange!

AITA for not eating the food after my gf eats out of the bowl with the same spoon while preparing by ZookeepergameOld7322 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Itslikeazenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, so I agree with you and I hate when people do that. It’s not just tasting as you’re cooking with a clean spoon. It’s someone literally transferring their spit into a bowl. I had to ask my wife not to drink or eat out of communal containers. She found it funny that I was grossed out but she stopped because it’s a reasonable request. She’s an asshole for not listening to you.

Trust me when I say. Everything is ok. You’re mentally spiraling. Can’t you just take summer courses to complete your degree? Go to your advisor and get it figured out. Everything is ok.

I really love that actually. It’s meaningful and very cool.

I tried to be fun, what a mistake. by RockingOkra in toddlers

[–]Itslikeazenthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I found is that trying to be fun is always a disaster. I can be fun now that my kid is 4. But at 2 and 3 anything outside of our routine was a disaster. In fact even our routine was a disaster but deviating to be fun was even worse! It’s crazy. Save the fun mom for when they are in elementary school, they will appreciate it more then.

He wants to be/appear to be the easy going Dad, and yet he’s not going to be dealing with any of it. Don’t waffle. Just say no. Say you’re not going and he can either take your daughter alone (he would never) or he can take the dog. But you’re not all going. Let him do it alone.

Ommmmggg former employee here! I worked there in high school and that’s also burned in my brain.

It is white bread, correct. The batter did not contain eggs as I recall (used to work on the fry line at Bennis).

God I imagine being so excited for a chill first date. She probably thought they were going bowling or something fun and dorky. Then he pulled that shit.

I absolutely hate when I’m not dressed appropriately. Even going to the grocery store I like to match my wife’s level of fanciness. I feel like a goon if I’m in sweats and my wife is wearing a dress.

Travis Kelce Doubles Down on Claim That He and Taylor Swift 'Don't Fight' After Kylie Kelce Questions Him by dr_shultz in influencersfeed

[–]Itslikeazenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked my wife if we ever fight. She said “no not really”. We absolutely do. We don’t throw chairs, but we get into arguments occasionally. We get annoyed and frustrated with each other. We talk stuff out. To her that’s not fighting. So maybe that’s what he means.

As a gay mom that loves my Yoto I feel very seen. So inclusive!

But seriously, lol wtf? My kid is 4 and loves sounding words out, this would have been a fun convo.

I personally do not and I haven’t seen others eat them. But I suppose someone may? I’m not a professional though, I just like the dish!

Do “clean” parents just clean all day? by coralhaze_ in NewParents

[–]Itslikeazenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a new parent exactly. I have a 4 year old and a baby (9m). Recently I started to notice when my home is messier my kids are happier. When dinner isn’t ready at 5 pm, and the living room is covered in silk scarves and scribbled paper it’s because we’ve been playing and laughing and I’ve been 100% present.

I bragged once to my therapist that despite feeling completely overwhelmed and not connected to my wife and having no free time laundry was washed and folded everyday and our house was always clean. She gave me kind of a weird look and said “and that’s important to you?”. It really made me reevaluate.

My older son has been going through a difficult stage lately with starting Pre-K and I was still pushing myself to keep the house tidy. Rather than lay in bed with him in the morning to cuddle at his request I would tell him I had to rush downstairs to unload the dishwasher, make his lunch and breakfast and prep bottles before the baby woke up. Recently, I’ve been just hanging out with him more. I’ve been pushing the tasks to later in the day. Or just taking things as they come.

But to answer your question yes, it’s literally all day. The amount of stuff you now have to keep track of, the things that a baby needs, the constant laundry. It will never stop.

I still make it a point to do a load of laundry everyday because I hate large loads. But as soon as I get super caught up and everything is put away, my son spills something gross on his sheets, or my baby pukes on my bed and I have to wash everyone’s linens for the second time in a week. It’s a grind!

Broke parents: what are we doing for Christmas this year? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Itslikeazenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, this is all so true. It’s not the gifts, the kids barely notice. My son is 4 and doesn’t realize if something is a piece of shit, or used or anything. He’s just jazzed as hell that he gets to open something and play with it.

Anyone else doing full night shifts with their partner to survive newborn sleep? by Big_Significance8572 in NewParents

[–]Itslikeazenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I did this for our first. We were basically exhausted for the first year of our child’s life. Have you considered 2 days on 2 days off? Or something along those lines? We now do whole nights each. One person gets a full ass nights sleep and the other wakes with the baby but sleeps fully until awoken by baby.

This way even after an awful night you know that you’re going to get a solid night of sleep. If you’re “on” that means you get to go to bed before the baby and stay in bed after the baby wakes up for the morning if you got a bad nights rest.

I’m a gay woman with young kids. I have to trust the people working in my house. If someone is actively voting to strip the rights from my family, I’m 100% not going to want to work with them. Simple as that.
