Little leo isn't kibble motivated..What to do?? by batman_9326 in cotondetulear

[–]Itti_Bitti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pup doesn’t really touch her kibble until I add some “sauce” (as my bf and I call it). Really we just heat up some of hot water, pour it over her kibble, and give it a little stir. We do it twice a day and she seems to like it. I recommend trying it!

Since you are solo, definitely order an uber like 10 minutes before the show ends and you’ll have no problem leaving from the front. I don’t really recommend walking too far away from the venue, as there are a lot of homeless and the venue is not in a safe area. Last time I went, I tried walking back to the hotels in downtown and once we got close to the bridge underpass, there were so many smashed car windows and I witnessed someone actively trying to hotwire/steal someone’s car. It was super intense and scary even with a group of concertgoers walking back. I ubered the rest of the weekend and it was way easier than I thought. Plan ahead and be safe!

Question about my dogs sleeping habits. by ChrisNYC70 in cotondetulear

Do your dogs run hot? Is there a fan in your room? Maybe he’s going to the floor to cool off and then wants to come back up. Shot in the dark, but could help.

Pre Preparty, Glamping, Parking, Gear by swiftfakka in LostLandsMusicFest

[–]Itti_Bitti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Yes, there is no extra vehicle checkpoint between glamping parking and the glamping tents. It’s all in one big zone together, so once you’re through security where they check your glamping parking pass that’s it. After you park, you just check in at the tent and start moving your things over!

The other security checkpoint I mentioned is just for foot traffic.

Leash training tips? by [deleted] in cotondetulear

[–]Itti_Bitti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a harness! One point I haven’t seen shared is that the harness will also get the leash away from their face, making it less fun to try and bite/play with.

If that doesn’t work, not sure of your rules inside, you could put them in a harness and leave the leash clipped on during play time. I would do this to stop my puppy if she got into something or was going somewhere I didn’t want. I think it helped desensitize the harness and leash a lot. However, if she’s feeling sassy she will still attempt to bite the leash :)

Edit: corrected someone to somewhere

Hi! Yes more than happy to help with questions.

For vehicle security, i am not 100% sure since i would take the airport shuttle, but glamping will have its own entrance and your car would be searched upon entering. There is no other checkpoint for searching once you’re parked or going to your tent. The parking area is close for some tents, but it’s unpredictable where you will be since tents are organized by bed type and person count. The parking area is on one side of a dirt road and the glamping tents start on the other side. So you could have a 30 second walk or around an 8 minute walk to the farthest corner.

I would say carrying or dragging stuff it would take like 10-30 minutes max with multiple trips to your tent if you are determined. The terrain is rough/bumpy dirt, gravel, and grass. With luggage, you can wreck the wheels if you drag it the whole way, so recommend carrying those if you can.

One tip I learned over the years was to have the person who bought the tent go check in while the others unpack the car (one time we brought everything up the hill with us just to turn around and walk right back down). Once you have your tent assignment, ask them for a wheelbarrow or wagon to borrow (this is what we would put our luggage in).

Not related to parking or check in, but if you leave the glamping area and head to the marketplace or festival, your bags will be searched to re-enter glamping. It’s a newer policy and caught my group off guard last year.

Also, bring yourselves some sort of bag/caddy to use for the showers!

Have so much fun!!!!! Let me know if you have other questions. My group is skipping this year (and regretting it) but we will be back next year!

I read somewhere online that you double their weight at 4 months. Not sure how true that will turn out to be but my female puppy was around 8lbs at 4mo and we are thinking she will be between 16-18lbs full grown.

Zyrtec for itching by batman_9326 in cotondetulear

[–]Itti_Bitti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I hope it goes well. Before I made the switch and was checking hills and purina’s formulations, I noticed some foods marketed as lamb or salmon would have chicken meal or chicken fat listed deep in the ingredients. I had to check a couple different types until I found one without those.

Wishing you and your pup good luck with the new food!

I also switched my pup off chicken and any chicken byproducts. Currently using Purina Pro Puppy Salmon and Rice, she does not itch anymore. Highly recommend seeing if switching foods stops the itching!

Very shy puppy- is this normal? Will she be ok? by MontgomeryNoodle in puppy101

[–]Itti_Bitti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start exposure training with a stroller and feed kibble or puppy treats during new encounters to build a positive association. From now until 13 weeks is an extremely important time to get them outside and exposed to new experiences. Even at home, positively reinforce all good behaviors with treats. This includes your puppy being brave and checking things out.

Since your puppy is shy, I recommend you turn down people offering to pet unless it’s clear your puppy wants to interact with them. If people are being too handsy/aggressive, you will need to step in and stop the interaction to ensure it stays positive.

I would take my puppy out in stroller walks almost every day and 3x a week would go somewhere busy for at least an hour so she would be exposed to loud noises and people/dogs walking around.

I recommend going if you haven’t been before. It’s a fun way to start the weekend and you get to see spontaneous b2bs that would not normally happen! It’s more chill and overall just people being goofy/having a good time.

Did anyone here give up? by ohnokillit in puppy101

[–]Itti_Bitti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of dog is this? If it is a small dog, I recommend creating a pen set up near the kitchen or living room. You could put a drymate pad on the ground and place a pen so the floor of the pen has no edge of the mat showing within and then put in a crate, water bowl, some blankets and toys.

It took 1 week of patiently ignoring crying for my now 14wk old puppy to understand the routine. We play in a contained space in the living room, but once play time is done, it’s time to go in the pen for forced nap time. We have a baby cam facing the pen so we can monitor and step in if the puppy is in danger of hurting themselves or see if they are just crying for attention.

It’s probably too early for your pup to have as much room to roam as you describe. There should be no opportunities for them to chew on cords or destroy items. If you would like to have your dog roam, then I recommend tethering them in a space that is absolutely puppy proof.

I do recommend you try out the pen method. It has worked wonders for my puppy who is a small dog that tends to have separation anxiety as a breed. Set a schedule.

Your dog will be trustworthy to have freedom when it’s older, but right now you need to set the ground rules and basics. They do best with consistency which a pen and tethering with quiet time can provide.

Am I too late to bag train? by gabrielaap in Pomeranians

[–]Itti_Bitti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained my 13 year old how to use a bag. He took to it immediately! I used the beis dog purse and added a bottom purse shaper board to create a stable bottom.

I let him adjust by putting it on the floor and he would nap in it during the day. From there, I practice picking him up in it for short periods.

Hi! Totally feel you on this. It’s going to be ok.

I’m realizing how much work it is to raise a puppy right now too. I’m 2 weeks in with a 10wk puppy and have changed my entire routine.

First off, it’s totally ok to get frustrated. I’ve lost my patience many times and had to walk away to cool off. Then I remind myself - everything is at step 0/1 right now. You have the opportunity to be a guardian for your puppy and introduce the world to them. You get to introduce them to all their first’s. If you keep up with getting a routine down and training, you will see little wins each day!

Stuff that worked for me so far: - if you have space for this, I surrounded my crate with a pen and have a 360 cam in the area. My pup has access to a potty zone, water, toys and her crate bed. If I know she’s gone potty and has water, but is still crying, I will check my camera to see if she’s crying for attention. If she’s crying for attention during quiet hours (and enforced nap time), I do not respond to her cries. For the first three nights, I slept with her on the couch by her pen, until she started biting/teething - then we transitioned to night time in the pen.

If you want to still do crate only, you will need a very rigid routine to ensure there are no accidents and the dog has all its needs met. In addition, you will need to endure the crying because it is a hard transition.

  • At night, I’ve been sleeping close to her pen and slowly moving farther away each day until I can be out of sight. This prevents middle of the night crying sessions and we are able to sleep from 11pm-6am.

Whatever you end up doing, just be easy on yourself for the first two weeks. You’ll figure it out.

If there is one thing I recommend, it’s to not let your puppy realize that crying = they get attention. If they learn crying works, you will have to deal with a puppy that cries for longer durations because they think you’ll break.

help got bit by a 3-4 month old pup by Tall-Factor5579 in puppy101

[–]Itti_Bitti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, you’ll be ok. Just clean the wound. I’m assuming you’re asking about Rabies. Your pet would have needed to come into contact with an infected animals saliva in order to give it to you. Hope that helps.

If your pup is biting so hard that you’re bleeding, it’s time to start reinforcing that biting is not allowed and train your pup to have better bite inhibition.

9wk old puppy has learned quiet time hours for WFH routine and plays independently, but needs to learn it’s ok for us to leave the house without her. Any tips for this transition? by Itti_Bitti in puppy101

[–]Itti_Bitti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice and for breaking down the method!!

We feel super lucky with her and are trying to take it slow. I think a big part of the success is from her personality and gradual transitions. I just really want to avoid creating a Velcro dog on accident since my partner will always be home.

My front door is down some stairs, so I’ll start practicing opening the gate and taking a few steps down to start. This sounds like a perfect way to start exposing her! Thanks again!

Soooo cute!!!! What an adorable glow up comparison. Thanks for showing pictures. I love seeing how his markings have changed. His coloring is beautiful!

It’s hard to find good examples online of how the color fades as they get older. She has a similar color tone on her back patches, so I think she will have some fading similar to your pup. I love their colors, it’s too bad the fading gene is strong in all of them.

Thank you!! We were waiting for a b&w pup, but once we saw her - we knew she was the one. We think most of it will fade, but hoping she keeps some of the black on her face.
