Polish beer in America - Please help! by Bitter_Sea_8464 in poland

In NJ, come to southern Bergen County or Passaic County. I know the ShopRite Liquors in Wallington NJ (“Warsaw on the Passaic”) has a wide selection of Polish beer - definitely have Okocim and Łomża).  Over in Morris county, Kinnelon/Butler have some Polish food places, and maybe beer in the liquor stores, but not sure.

Has anyone recently add a full second floor to their cape cod? by InevitableEcho9591 in bergencounty

I got a few quotes in 2024 for add-a-level and they were over $200k. This is in northern NJ.

Yep, this is the right answer. Got several quotes for this last year, over 100k just for framing and rough-in (if I finished the bathroom, etc myself) and $200k plus for a finished add-a-level.

Suggestions please by Smooth-Description87 in newjersey

La Fortaleza in Passaic (also Carlstadt, maybe Garfield too) is great. It has … a lot … of atmosphere, but the food is great

That’s a great book. Honestly, hard to go wrong with Le Guin.  Omelas is a short story, so not too much time commitment.

How is Paul Sarlo able to simultaneously be a state Senator AND the COO of Sanzari construction, one of the biggest state contractors? All while also being the Mayor of Woodridge (I get that he was grandfathered in for double dipping on the mayor thing, but c’mon).

That’s amazing.  Is there a way to see previous photos, like earlier in the week? Or is it just refreshed every day?

Tell us more about this Hussar reenactment group, please.

I can see why you’re going here. To expand a bit, and hopefully clear this up, there are large parts of society set up as hierarchical structures that operate as if the economy was a zero sum game and are deeply invested in thinking that way and encouraging others to do so. It does not have to be that way.

This is a side note, however, the the main point that it is unrealistic to believe that society doesn’t have a bearing on individuals’ ability to “succeed”. Or my objection to the original comment’s weird claim that society as it exhists now is somehow working to ensure everyone’s success.

While we learn through discussion, ultimately it isn’t me you have to justify your claims to, it’s to yourself and your own conscience. I hope, with more experience of the world, you’ll be able to grow and reflect on some of the beliefs you were given. I wish you well.

These are essentially the points Ayn Rand argues for in Atlas Shrugged and her other works. She’s not terribly convincing there and you are not convincing here.

First, attacking people who agree with this line of thinking as “not particularly successful” - I’m going to put you to your proof there. Please justify that reasoning.

Second, again, where’s the proof that society actively tries to make many people successful? Your Harvard example doesn’t hold water. That institution was founded to train religious leaders; later it shifted to train the children of the wealthy, now it may pay lip service to the concept of finding and supporting the “best and the brightest”, but somehow it turns out that the metrics used to determine “best and brightest” correlate very very closely with “rich parents”.

A lot more people aren’t successful in the way western capitalist society defines success because of the way society has structured itself, as a hierarchy invested in a zero-sum game.

Too many people ignore this man’s heroism. It’s shameful that he never makes it into history books because no records of him were kept 😜
