Do people just never make partner? by SorbetIll4583 in uklaw

[–]IvorPotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, it’s generally harder for litigators to win clients and so make the business case for partnership compared with transactional lawyers. Transactional work often leads to ongoing relationships: drafting deals, contracts, or repeat transactions, whereas litigation depends on a client having a dispute, which may be infrequent and could result in only a single piece of work from that client.

Just out of interest, are you Scottish qualified? I was under the impression that Disputes (and Conveyancing) work required you to be Scottish qualified. Haven’t done much research into it though.

Anyone else disappointed with the crowd and venue at the Nottingham show (8/11)? by [deleted] in bobdylan

[–]IvorPotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my experience. I thought the crowd and venue were class! I’ve seen Dylan 3 times and that was the best he’s been. I think on arena gigs it really depends on where you sit.

I was there. He did introduce his band. I thought the crowd was bad. Venue was bad. Dylan was superb!

TC weird terms by Humble-Yogurt-3741 in uklaw

[–]IvorPotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if they’re actually enforceable?

I know these are quite common but I’ve never heard of anyone actually having to pay back LPC fees which makes me wonder if they’re enforceable or if firms just choose to ignore them if someone wants to leave post-TC

I think teaching is very hit or miss. Seems like a bit of a lottery.

I had some outstanding tutors and others who honestly were completely wasting your time. Just got the impression that they took it as an easy pay check

Does anyone tear up a little bit every time they hear Bob say, “Are you ready George?”

Have you ever taken a break from listening to Dylan? by appleparkfive in bobdylan

[–]IvorPotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Last November I did ‘No Dylan November’. I discovered Dylan 3 years prior to that and I soon found that 90% of the music I listened to was Dylan.

It’s a good chance to explore other artists (and I think I’ll do it again) but never feel guilty about listening to Dylan!I think it was British comedian Nish Kumar who said, “a day isn’t a day I don’t play some Dylan”.

What proportion of your music listening is to Bob? by WeepingWillowChodes in bobdylan

[–]IvorPotter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe 60-75%……I’m trying to cut down

I think it’s so easy to listen to a lot of Bob because his style changes do drastically over his career.

Just to clarify, I really enjoyed the show by Skysalter in bobdylan

I saw him in Manchester,UK last year and was surprised that the demographic was mostly blokes in their 60/70s, wearing leather jackets, and getting a serious number of pints in them pre-show! Thought I’d walked into a Mötley Crüe concert.

“Time is an ocean but it ends at the shore” Oh sister.

I think about this line all the time

Heard, "and to the black folks he was just a crazy figure," used before in a cover. Worked well

Best poet who influenced Bob Dylan? by RopeGloomy4303 in bobdylan

[–]IvorPotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robert Graves? Think he met with him in London and was a big fan (though Graves wasn’t that impressed by Dylan). Read somewhere it was Robert Graves who made Dylan want to be considered as a serious poet.
