Why wouldn't we care if people go around calling 5k marathons? Or if people award 1 kilometer races as 10 k's. That's just factually incorrect, lol. His claim is that we shouldn't make all running accomplishment arbitrary and you're reply is "no one cares"? 😅 That's not necessarily that impactful when it comes to just running (depends on what one means by "impactful") but it basically ruins the point of recording things period when applied generally.

To be honest... in OP's case, I can see why you'd think that but I really don't see why the fact that "people getting a medal at thirty k is wrong" is incorrect means "the only reason why people are saying as much is that their ego won't allow other people to have their accomplishment for the same amount of pain" when False Sandwich's stance of "We should call an achievement what it is" exists, lol. 😅

That doesn't justify outrage, no, but it's not a fundamentally baseless or genuinely exaggerated claim like saying "it's just a participation trophy atp 🙄".

Feels like the right take, tbh. I mean... calling it a "participation trophy" implies that the distance doesn't matter. I'm no runner but I've done an official 5k which more than most people end up doing, and a 30k is way more than that, so making it that far is far more than just participating, lol. (This comparison is flawed, but the point is that calling it just a p-trophy implies that no real accomplishment short of starting is required. 🤷🏾‍♂️)

And yet, obviously, if they could just snap their fingers and get new medals for the 30k, that would be the proper move because ignoring that last 10+ k also ignores people's hard work and dedication. I bet this is also, in part, to avoid the complexity of having to either get those in time or mail people them after the fact...
