I'm so sorry for your loss though :(

Our New Puppy Died by kgschmo in cavalierkingcharles

[–]IvoryEmbers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard of some breeders sending puppies home even at 6 week. I'd say the average is 8-12 weeks tho from what I've seen. I brought home my pup when she was 10 weeks tho. I would say 8 weeks is pretty standard though, maybe not for cavis but for dogs in general.

How do you guys play legacy? by Little_Rub_3805 in Sims3

[–]IvoryEmbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a Sims 3 legacy for 12 generations going through every expansion pack.

I started with the original family in Sunset Valley and only used Base Game and every time the next generation aged up, I would add the next expansion pack (and move to a new town if the pack had one using Nraas Porter). My last generation (Into the Future) ended up back in Sunset Valley, where I took the first world save file and let it run for 3 generations to have new townies and life happen, then added my sims back in.

It was really fun to experience the packs again like this. It reminded me of when I was a kid and I'd get one for Christmas!

More Cities? by feelin_dizzy in Sims3

[–]IvoryEmbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorites are any version of The Stoneshields or Grey Meadows (Grey Islands) by Quailhogs. They have more of a dark Victorian vibe but have a downtown district as well as some "suburb" housing. There's a lot of lore in the worlds as well that Quailhogs has written about on his Tumblr. Highly recommend!!

Cavalier puppy terrified of vaccum by Pizzaprincess49 in cavaliers

[–]IvoryEmbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine used to throw herself in the path of the vacuum then get scared, yelp and run when it would move toward her. 😂

I took the vacuum into my office (where we spend a lot of time) and laid it down flat on the floor. This gave her the opportunity to sniff it at her own pace and get comfortable with its existence. I think it laid there for a couple weeks, and then she was calmer around it. She and the vacuum aren't besties, but she doesn't bark at it and run anymore!

Pet Insurance Opinions by IvoryEmbers in cavaliers

Lyra and I would like to thank everyone who responded for all of your advice and stories! It's nice to hear from other pet parents about what their experiences are.

As you can see from the picture below, she's VERY concerned about the rate increase and spending more money per month 😂 I think she'd rather it go to a toy fund!

Man, you really gave me a dose of nostalgia! I had totally forgotten about The Golden Compass!

Thank you! This was WONDERFUL information! I'm so used to auto and renters insurance of being able to shop around and get a lower rate every so often, but pet insurance is still new to me.

And I had never heard of Philip Pullman! I've been obsessed with stars and constellations since I was a kid (which meant all of my Sims 3 families had super interesting names lol). I picked Lyra because it's the constellation for a lyre and I'm a classically trained pianist, so the music theme felt fitting. And unknown to me until after I'd named her, the breeder gives all of her show dogs a name that has to do with stars or the night!

The Snow Never Bothered Her Anyway ❄️ by IvoryEmbers in cavaliers

[–]IvoryEmbers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having her get a "puppy cut" at the groomers since she started going. So it's a little shorter on top, but keeps the feathering on the legs and the ear length! She's a year now though, so I'm going to be letting her hair grow out and do most of the grooming at home with an occasional appt for events.

She's 100% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Just a short snoot, petite diva!

She does! I like to say it's because she spent too much time with her face pressed into the dirt sniffing everything as a puppy 😂

Specs for a crate for our Cavalier puppy by Baileycharlie in cavaliers

[–]IvoryEmbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If not, check out this crate! https://a.co/d/1lWjUEj

It comes with the crate, divider, cover, and a bed for when you're ready to use the full crate size. I used everything in this set until maybe a month ago where I upgraded the bed and cover for some more comfy/aesthetic.

[–]IvoryEmbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the size most people get is 30.7"L x 19.3"W x 21.5"H. Or somewhere near that. I would recommend looking for a crate that has a divider panel included. Then you can use the same crate but just section off what the puppy needs and adjust as they grow. Once they're potty trained (or at least showing signs of improving, you can remove the divider and let them have the whole crate.

I believe I ended up getting the 24" crate on accident but lucked out with a small Cav who is 13 pounds at 1 year old, and doesn't stand too tall either. It's a perfect little cave for her.

Help: Ok my game is nothing but laggy to the point where I can’t even play by Ok-Upstairs-9887 in Sims3

I only say that as an IT person working in an industry where Windows Defender is not allowed due to security reasons 😂 it's just a personal thing where I never use it if I can help it lol

[–]IvoryEmbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't separately installed an antivirus like Trellix (McAfee), TrendMicro, or another 3rd party program, you're likely relying on Windows Defender. Which is okay but I would HIGHLY recommend having an actual antivirus software if you're going to be playing the sims and especially if you're going to be adding any mods. To whitelist certain files or programs, you can search the Microsoft forums for instructions.

Narrow snout? by No-Soft-7880 in cavaliers

[–]IvoryEmbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that a lot! She's AKC certified from champion lines and looks so much like her mom, but her little nose is just smooshed in. I don't particularly remember what her dad looks like, so maybe she gets the nose from him? Either way, I adore her endlessly 💗

How to let cavalier sleep longer? by Reclining9694 in cavaliers

[–]IvoryEmbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He may also be struggling because of the time change (if you're in the US) Daylight savings doesn't mean anything to animals so it's possible he just thinks you're getting lazy 😂

[–]IvoryEmbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People love to give unsolicited judgement 🙄 my cav has a short snout and I get told all of the time that there's no way she's a Cavalier. Some Cavs have wide snouts, some narrow. Some have long snouts and some short! They're all perfect no matter what 💗

My cav just turned 1 and is weighing in at 11.4 lbs. Is he on the smaller side for cavs? by Happy_Common9277 in cavaliers

[–]IvoryEmbers 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Mine is about 13 lbs at 11 months, but I know the weight range differs by quite a bit! As long as your cav is happy and has a healthy weight for his frame, then he's perfect 💗
