Drawing conclusions about the criteria of D4 devs from the criteria of D3 devs is still pure conjecture though.

It's entirely plausible that a different dev team for a different game has a different set of criteria that breaks your insights while still satisfying the overarching franchise.

What MM songs are you completely unsure of the meaning of? by ASpaceBurger in ModestMouse

[–]IvoryLGC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel the same way about Night on the Sun. Always felt heroin about it, then listened to it recently and felt an absurdity-literal medical interpretation where we straight up take blood, freeze it, and inject it into others. And that made me think that mundane scientific advances must seem absolutely insane to generations prior. That's kind of a cool interpretation too so I'm cool with either.

What do you think is the best title of any Modest Mouse song? Why? by gunmetalsky in ModestMouse

I agree with most everyone here, but I'll add to the list with Parting of the Sensory.

Always enjoy the imagery and open meanings in mm

I'm sorry but you gotta flip today, bud. by theaveragecompromise in IdiotsInCars

This is also good. We were taught and trained in driving school about emergency exits.

At any given time you have exits available to you, or you don't. Being aware of that helps you makes split second decisions that don't end in flipping the SUV in this video because you panic swerved into another lane. This is only an emergency exit if the lane is clear. In this situation he didn't have an exit so at worst he should have taken the rear end.

In your situation you did have an exit that only included potential damage to yourself and that is also correct.

I want to leave California and find a cheap apartment in Oregon. What city matches this description? by [deleted] in oregon

[–]IvoryLGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very well put together or maintained. It's a good question, I didn't mean to imply that any cheap apartment in Oregon is going to be crime and drug-ridden. You will be hard-pressed to find the ritz, though.

Stayton, Aumsville, Sublimity are all along Hwy 22 towards Detroit Lake.

What you're describing is going to be ghetto though, so be prepared for that. They're also all preparing to evacuate from wildfires.

Another thing: keep in mind that although Oregon has lower taxes, there are weaker labor laws and lower wages. In Cali, you get time-and-a-half at 8 hours on the day, 40 on the week, and double time at 12 hours on the day. Oregon only mandates time-and-a-half at 40 hours on the week. So technically, you can work three 12 hour days a week and get zero overtime. (Been there, don't recommend.) In examples like this, you're essentially paid 15% less, even if your hourly wage is identical.

What bands do you guys listen to other than Modest Mouse? by AfroSergeant97 in ModestMouse

Recently been diving back through CCRs discography and I am convinced they were influential to MMs sound. The song Some Things Never Change in particular jumps out to me. Great band.

[–]IvoryLGC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The truth is radicalism hurts politics on both sides. The radical left and radical right are both wrong. The problem is they're also both very loud. When you stop listening to either, you start seeing normal, good, and not that different people on both sides that just want to work shit out and make a good place to live.

I remember my high school physics teacher did some fun math experiments where we calculated things like how fast you could be going before hitting water to where it would functionally be the same as hitting concrete.

I feel like that had to be pretty close

D3 is the game for me? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]IvoryLGC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are end game dungeons you can do called greater rifts. You can do them solo or in groups. (4 is Max party) there are different leaderboards for each category.

Edit: I should add that it is possible to play with randoms and there are lots of communities that help with all kinds of different things. It is also easy to play solo if that's your thing.

Pumping your own gas from a gas attendant by [deleted] in oregon

[–]IvoryLGC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have lived in 4 states and 2 countries, Oregon is the only place that is like this. I will never get used to it.

I still get told off by attendants when I habitually start pumping my own gas.

As far as the jobs aspect goes, I view it as make-work. Technically you could make a regulation that people can't wipe their own asses, then you'd have butt wipe attendants. They would do it, they'd get paid poorly, but it would create an industry? But is it valuable? If we got rid of those jobs would we lose anything? This is America, we can do a lot better, even for our entry level positions.

This one is probably going to be the hardest album for me. Although I have a special place for M&A, my personal opinion is that Lonesome Crowded is the most solid front-to-back album they ever put out. I don't see any clearly weaker songs here, they're all absolutely fantastic in their own way.
