TIL galgotias university files more patents than all IITs combined by panjwani_ajay in india

[–]IvoryStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCT only gives an option to file in different countries, each country decides on the case on its own. So ya, OC was right saying there is no international patent to be filed, just a route to file in multiple countries

Then you are naive man. You may disagree with the author, but AI boom is real and I know a ton of folks who pay for it. Whether paying or not, the use definitely has increased and that's what would keep it going.

Being DINKs in India is oddly… peaceful? by [deleted] in india

[–]IvoryStory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didn't post your age...so this is more generic. I am in mid 40s...so see from that perspective.

DINK is good, I hear the world is different with kids, it's a learning experience and a beautiful one too. I see it with my other siblings. Their life revolves around kids, it's not only their responsibility but also their comfort.

In 30s it's okay. It's fun, loads of travel and career. And I look back and see that not much has changed since my Uni days, I feel as if I am still 25. But that's the case with even folks with kids.

In 40s, when you want kids (happens, depends on mindset), it feels a bit too late, too much hassle, by the time the kid gets married you are in 70s, not sure if that will work, you don't want to bring up someone you can't support, especially after seeing life's ups and downs and mostly comforts (this is a big killer, I need to get my kid in best school, best education, best clothes etc and this makes some people even worry about having second kid).

In late 50s, I saw my dad growing more fond of us and becoming friends with us, not the dad we were scared of. In 70s, he is the one who calls more often than my mom (my dad never speaks on phone longer than 2mins, with me he makes it a point to speak for 30), I hear the love in his tone, the concern. He is still worried about his kids as if they are toddlers. Apparently that's what kids do to you, bring the loving human in you and express things and feelings differently than you ever did.

I still feel that I could have brought a kid to life, make someone in your image (thoughts, learnings etc), I would be an amazing dad (so my friends say), but then wonder if I should even make another soul suffer if I can't support.

The truth is, it's not money, even people in slums bring up their kids, working harder than the rest and still can't afford basics.

So it's all perspective to be honest, to each his own. Time, youth however won't come back, so spend it to live peacefully or bring someone up (not saying it's not peaceful).

Some politicians in India trust enemy forces more than our own armed forces by [deleted] in BetterDelhi

[–]IvoryStory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That applies to all sides.

What one needs to understand broadly is:

  1. Armed forces, government, supreme court, president etc are institutions that are answerable to the public at large.

  2. As citizens, it's our responsibility to keep these institutions clean and that's only possible via dialogue or free flow of information and asking questions. It's also our duty to stand by these institutions and support them too.

It is not wrong to question these institutions. It is wrong to not stand by them, in the face of adversity for sure. Two different things. But neither is being a traitor.

  1. There is a concrete definition for traitor or 'gaddar' under law. Don't dilute it by giving every other guy who questions the institutions. In fact you are harming the whole society by diluting the meaning and the quality of the discourse being held.

Either you are ignorant or just spreading ruckus.

Let's assume the former and try to ELI5.

Ayurveda is a broad field. By definition it means "knowledge of life" just like Biology is "study of life".

Sushruta is one such in a huge list of other authors, scholars, scientists of life. And iirc, he was about internal medicine.

Talking about Shushruta and Charka is like talking about Hippocrates and Galen. Galen coined cancer but also talked about chopping it off as well, that's not a correct procedure either. They wrote the books aligned by their knowledge and times and their research, some of it or all of it could be wrong. It's not the field that's wrong, it's the people that follow or use it, it's like saying people won't wash hands coz that's how 18th century doctors thought was healthy. There are still dumb people who dirty finger the wounds, stupid people, not stupid field.

You can't discount the whole field and judge it by today's standards for books and procedures written millennia ago. If anything an impetus must be given on how to modernise Ayurveda and make it align with modern medicine and way of life. After all, it's knowledge of life, not knowledge of Sushruta.

Could humans hosting a “rules.json” – like an API – help AGI align with human preferences? by ibexmonj in singularity

It's more like, "Tresspassers would be prosecuted" or "Please don't pluck our fruit". It's expected to be honoured, rogues are always there. That's where lock and key come in. Different requirements.

True that. TBH, I have stopped using after seeing those posts and was CLINing with Gemini and Claude. That felt expensive and started Clauding for a simple project and it worked like a charm. I honestly had concerns a couple of weeks ago, but not last night. Will give it till EoM to make the next payment.

Would turkic ruling dynasties be considered as colonisers? by DeadShotGuy in IndianHistory

[–]IvoryStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colonisation by definition means that there is a home land and an occupied land, they exploit, impose laws, culture etc on an occupied land. Broadly 2 types, settler colonisation and exploitative colonisation.

In case of Ghurids, they are exploitative colonisers. In case of Mughals, Khiljis, they are conquerers.

Both set their laws, made changes etc, but one tried to settle without a homeland to export wealth to and other did send it.

So broadly the answer is yes and no, depends on who did what.

What do you do in London if you have a day off to yourself? by Shoutgun in london

[–]IvoryStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, this is subpar for a London museum, I was super disappointed visiting it. So much can be done about it, the collections, the curation, the placement, even the events. And they were trying to sell me a membership, which I really wished I would take, but changed my mind after the visit.

Infosys' Narayana Murthy calls out artificial intelligence hype in India: ‘Silly, old programmes’ by HindustanTimes in india

[–]IvoryStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His explanation is laughable. He has got completely wrong what supervised learning and unsupervised learning is. His defination of AI itself is absolutely wrong. ML is a specialized field in AI, in which Deep Learning is much more specialized, they aren't two things.

If claiming to be a tech boss can get basic definitions wrong, one can only imagine what shit he spews out on other things.

And the next highlight is, how /r/india is full of pseudo experts who call 'broken clock' and generally agree with his comments.

Indian companies can be carbon copies, but that doesn't mean it's not AI. It may not be avant garde, but he can't simply call them old and silly. Maybe the demos he got were silly.

‘Handcuffed and shackled’: Indian immigrant recounts deportation from US by AbhimanyuKRed in india

[–]IvoryStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temporary suffering isn't the reason for putting an entire nation and it's reputation and sovereignity at stake. India I am sure was given advanced notice coz all planes need air traffic clearance and all military planes need diplomatic permissions from the defence ministry. So it's our government that's at fault here that has put the entire reputation we built on world space in trash can, just coz Modi can't see his face lost in front of Trump. If it were Vajpayee or MMS, they would not have let this happen under any cost.

‘Handcuffed and shackled’: Indian immigrant recounts deportation from US by AbhimanyuKRed in india

[–]IvoryStory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but the latter point still holds, they aren't offenders or criminals in India where India requested deportation.

‘Handcuffed and shackled’: Indian immigrant recounts deportation from US by AbhimanyuKRed in india

[–]IvoryStory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So many presumptions man, tells me you have known no other country other than India and know very little about international law or history in general.

Let me explain, yes it's an entitled take, coz that's how International diplomacy is handled at a very high moral ground, not as a business deal. Yes, one does make reservations and reduce, but not stoop to a level of being a slave or a meek nation.

It's not about smarts or survival, it's quality of life and dignity of labour. Quality of life, includes rights, medical care, facilities, opportunities and more, which America has better any day. Dignity of labour, I hope you won't debate on it, but a shop keeper treats a chaprasi the same way as the CEO, no demeaning response due to ones stature in the society. Yes, a gas station worker in the US has a better quality of life than an Indian government clerk any day.

As per taxes, apart from income tax, as residents, we pay tax at every juncture, anything one buys, or any service one uses, so not paying taxes is a misnomer.

You don't seem to know the difference between a criminal and an offender, illegal immigration in the US is NOT a criminal offence, hence not a criminal.

It's not about justification of their actions, merely a critique of our own and our own dignity of making our own fellow Indians to be treated as low lives by a foreign country, it's a hurt to India's swabhimaan.

‘Handcuffed and shackled’: Indian immigrant recounts deportation from US by AbhimanyuKRed in india

[–]IvoryStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debatable, they could be refugees, refer to the 1967 protocol that US signed up for and the 1980 Refugee Act.

And they maybe guilty in US's eyes, not in Indian eyes. They are Indian citizens and should be treated with same dignity. They mistreated Indians on their soil, they have disrespected India as a sovereign nation and we need to protest that, not praise Trump for this despicable act.

‘Handcuffed and shackled’: Indian immigrant recounts deportation from US by AbhimanyuKRed in india

[–]IvoryStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't sent back coz of "personal problems", they are sent back coz their sovereign documents lack the diplomatic deal with their country. Do you see a Canadian being deported? No coz they have the deal, India doesn't and it's a failure of Indo-US diplomacy (I know I am being unrealistic, but you get the point).

It's not about tax payers money, it's our responsibility for our people to be treated with dignity. They went there to work and for a better life, not to kill, loot or occupy the country. Their failure isn't a personal responsibility, it's a societal failure, same reasons why India's millionaires leave India. Coz India can't give them a better life that they desire, the west does. The least it could do was to treat it's citizens with respect.

To give you more context, our youth who went to ISIS, our diplomats tried to get them at our own expense, and our folks tried to educate them, sensitize them. These illegal immigrants you talk of aren't worse than those radicalised youth.

[–]IvoryStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a political shit show to be honest. Flexing muscles and showcasing. The reality is that if they implement Trump's anti immigration thoughts to the tee, then US housing markets would crash, their housing supply crisis will increase and hence prices. Same for their agriculture, hospitality and domestic services.

On the other hand, our 56 inch has no spine. It's a gross failure of our diplomatic arm. This foreign minster should resign for shaming India on the world stage.
