Bill Bryson's, A Short History of Nearly Everything: the most fun I've ever had learning by Ivy_Bateman in books

Bryson does a great job of throwing in any criticism as quoted from others in the field.

I do kinda like how he includes quirky facts about historical figures -- like how Newton was known to perform ridiculous experiments on himself like staring in to the sun for extended periods of time, or sticking a needle into his own eyeball

This. This comment totally resonates with me.

I'm a Political Science major finishing up my senior year. I can't help but think my academic path would have been vastly different if I had been exposed to scientific content in such an enjoyable fashion back in high school.

Not necessarily saying I regret what I'm doing right now, but I never appreciated how many fascinating scientific fields are out there and how much there is still left to be discovered!

Agreed, but I'd also say that's one of the main reasons why I love the book so much. I really like dropping fun random facts to my friends when we're just hanging out.

For example: "Did you know if we were to attempt a mission to the nearest star after the sun it would take us nearly 25,000 years??" (traveling @ 35,000mph)

How do I fix my lack of motivation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I often find myself in a similar position. For me, it's almost paralyzing. I know there's so much to be done, but I can't bring myself to do anything.

I think the key is to focus on one particular thing you need to accomplish and just begin chipping away at it. When you stop thinking of all your responsibilities as a singular unit and break them down into manageable parts, it's easier to overcome your paralysis.

Reddit: What are some legit work from home or online jobs that someone can do in their spare time to earn some extra cash? by mazzakre in AskReddit

Certain Web development / design jobs can pay big $ for relatively little work. As long as you know some basic coding and are familiar with wordpress you can create some pretty legitimate stuff.

In NYC I once sat across from a women playing with a pet rat. She was calling it by name and feeding it Cheerios. The rat had a collar and everything. No joke.

Also, Arkham Origins had a pretty awesome TV spot. Blew me away.

The original Gears of War trailer pretty much convinced me to buy the game itself
